Part A | Ideation

Introduction

Through visual communication, concise messaging and self explanatory project one requires these primary reasons to communicate four complex posters of a particular mythical character, and a fabricated mechanical system extracted from a certain milestone within the story.

Scenario

From idea to research, I decided to choose the mythological character Narcissus. With the help of AI tool Chatgpt, I was able to generate an allegory on Narcissus which I was then able to extract a particular moment from the story and use it as a source for an idea.

Can use as key words when inputing to Mid-journey to help generate a more direct image

References

Once getting an understanding for the story behind Narcissus I was able to use Mid-Journey an AI system that turns ideas through the use key words into an image. This helped translate my chosen myth into a design idea and I was able to visulaise it as a scene.

Surrounded by a pond, reflection, yellow flowers or plants representing Narcissus flower, reflective materials, polished gold, natural backdrop and grey smooth stones.

Mythical Greek God

Narcissus, sitting beside a pond, revealing beauty, calmness and the look of utter desire.

Key Words

A building, water feautures, polished metals, reflective materials, symmetrical elements, set in a natural environment, daffodil or a narcissus flower.

Story Diagramming

The diagram which I created captures the key variables of the extracted allegory from the myth Narcissus, the diagram shows the main character, Narcissus, the action sin which had major influence on him through the story, a key location being the pond, relationships between the variables, and the overall message of him being resurrected into a flower.

The distraction from the beauty of himself lead im to disconnect/ reject help offered by others causing great weakness.

A hidden meaning, the reflection, reflectin ghis old self with his ressurected self.

The flower, showing resurrection

Experimentation

Extracting the part of the story in whcih i want to create into a design, I began sketching ideas down on how I would create the part of the story into a moving mechanical system.

Experimentation

Creating a pulley system was my first stratergy, although this wasnt reflecting the movement of muscle in which I was aiming for. I decided to add a spring component, which when pulled by the cable tie would release and pop the flower out referencing more a muscle movement.

Diagrams on the right show how the sytem works, broken down in each main movement.

Experimentation

Final long exposure photos to capture the movement of the system.
