Heelwat lesers het reg geraai in die Zoutpansberger se skattejag-kompetisie van die laaste twee weke. Die korrekte antwoord was die geskiedkundige treinstasie op Louis Trichardt en ons gelukkige wenner is Cherise Hamman.

Vir haar moeite wen sy R300. Baie geluk, Cherise!

Reeds met die bou van die spoorlyn vanaf Tzaneen tot by Musina is druk geplaas op die owerhede om die roete deur Louis Trichardt te neem. Die vleilande en nat grond in die dorp het egter probleme veroorsaak en ‘n besluit is geneem om die roete sowat vier myl (6,4 kilometer) wes van die dorp te laat verbygaan, waarna dit in die rigting van die Sandrivierpoort wegswenk. Vroeg in Januarie 1912 het bouwerk begin aan die gedeelte tussen Bandelierkop en Louis Trichardt. Op 3 Maart 1913 is die gedeelte van die spoorlyn wat tot naby Louis Trichardt gaan, amptelik geopen. Die eerste stasie was suid van die dorp, in die omgewing van die afdraaipad na Ledig. Die openingsgeleentheid is bygewoon deur die distrik se magistraat, mnr. C.A. Wheelwright, en die voorsitter van Louis Trichardt se gesondheidskomitee, mnr. W. Brown.

Die dorpsraad was vasbeslote om die spoorlyn tot in die dorp te kry en het ‘n stuk grond van 200 morg (171,2 hektaar) opsygesit wat die Staat vir die doeleindes van ‘n stasie kon onteien. ‘n Spesiale pad is ook van die stasie na die dorp gebou. Die pad het die markplein, via Burgerstraat, met die stasie verbind. In die 1920‘s is verskeie bloekombome ook aangeplant en dit het bygedra daartoe dat die grond in die dorp droër en meer geskik vir ‘n spoorlyn geword het.

Op 24 Augustus 1925 het die minister van spoorweë Louis Trichardt besoek en die raad het ‘n sterk kontingent van invloedryke plaaslike mense byeen gekry om die noodsaaklikheid van ‘n stasie in die dorp te beklemtoon. Van dié beloftes het egter min gekom en in Februarie 1927 het die dorpsraad ‘n afvaardiging gestuur om met die plaaslike lid van die Volksraad, adv. Oswald Pirow, te beraadslaag. Die afvaardiging het bestaan uit raadslede J.B. Bergh, J.A. Beyers, J. Hirschon en die dorpsekretaris. In Junie 1927 het die regering goedkeuring gegee vir die bou van die nuwe stasiekompleks.

Een van die voorwaardes vir die bou van die spoorlyn was dat die dorpsraad die grond gratis moes verskaf aan die administrasie van die SA Spoorweë en Hawens. Ten einde dit reg te kry, moes die raad ruiltransaksies aan- gaan met verskeie inwoners, ingevolge waarvan hul ander erwe ontvang het.

Op 2 Mei 1928 het die uitvoerende raad van die provinsie die projek goedgekeur en die bou van die spoorlyn het in alle erns begin. Die nuwe stasie het ook dadelik ‘n uitwerking gehad op die dorpsbeplanning en Krugerstraat is verleng om by die nuwe spoorweghalte aan te sluit.

Die spoorwegstasie op Louis Trichardt is amptelik op 10

Oktober 1928 geopen. Wat die stasiegebou self betref, spog dit met ‘n unieke geskiedenis. Dié gebou het eens by die treinstasie in Pietersburg (Polokwane) gestaan. Toe die stad ‘n nuwe treinstasie gekry het, het siviele ingenieur H.F Greaves, oupa van bekende inwoner John Greaves, opdrag gekry om die ou stasiegebou in Pietersburg blok-vir-blok uitmekaar te haal en weer in Louis Trichardt aanmekaar te sit waar die gebou vandag staan.

Die Zoutpansberger se vyfde skattejag-kompetisie skop hierdie week af, met lesers wat tot Maandag, 29 Mei, kans het om in te skryf.

Elke twee weke sal die koerant een of twee foto’s publiseer van ‘n gedeelte van ‘n bekende landmerk, gebou of item uniek aan die Soutpansberg. Dié foto(s) sal egter slegs ‘n klein gedeelte van die volle prentjie wys en dien as ‘n leidraad. Een of twee ander geskrewe kriptiese leidrade sal gegee word, wat inwoners kan help om die landmerk, gebou of item uit te ken. Die “skattejagters” kan hulle antwoord, naam en telefoonnommer aanbring op die gedeelte van die koerantknipsel onderaan die foto. ‘n Selfoonfoto moet daarvan geneem word en per WhatsApp gestuur word na tel. 072 822 3262 of per e-pos aan news@zoutnet. co.za.

Wanneer die wenner se naam aangekondig word, sal ‘n kort geskiedenis gegee word van die landmerk, gebou of item wat afgeneem was. Terselfdertyd sal ‘n nuwe foto(s) met leidrade verskaf word vir die volgende kompetisie. Tydens elke kompetisie is R300 op die spel vir die persoon met die regte antwoord wie se naam eerste getrek word.

Fotoleidraad: Hierdie gebou is in 1952 voltooi en dien sedertdien as vergaderplek vir sy lede. Sy lede en die organisasie waaraan hulle behoort se geskiedenis in Louis Trichardt strek egter terug tot 1913.

The proposed road requires gravel material for road works from the one borrow pit identified.

The Project triggers the following activities: NEMA EIA Regulations, 2014 Listing Notice 1 (BA): Activity 21(a) - Any activity including the operation of that activity which requires a mining permit in terms of section 27 of the MPRDA, including (a) associated infrastructure, structures and earthworks, directly related to the extraction of a mineral resource; and Activity 27(i) - The clearance of an area of 1 hectare or more, but less than 20 hectares of indigenous vegetation.

Die toernooi is gekenmerk deur strawwe kompetisie, waar onder andere ‘n paar van Suid-Afrika se top 10 spelers ook deelgeneem het. Limpopo se mans en vroue eindig beide vyfde in die A-afdeling. Die twaalf wenfoto’s sal aan die einde van die jaar in ‘n groot-formaat muurkalender vir 2024 saamgevat word.

Hoe om in te skryf: Foto’s kan in hoë resolusie per e-pos gestuur word, of op CD of geheuestokkie ingehandig word by die kantore van die Zoutpansberger te Joubertstraat 16B in Louis Trichardt. Elke inskrywing moet vergesel wees van die fotograaf se naam, kontakbesonderhede, waar die foto geneem is en met watter kamera dit geneem is. Alle inskrywings moet die fotograaf se eie werk wees.
