A NYTH ING WITH A PULS E WONKY DONKEY

ZOO PLAYGROUND

Anything With a Pulse: a man and a woman meet in a club. Spotting each other from across the dance floor, they hit it off. Their story should be simple enough. But in a world where we hide behind games and personas, it doesn’t always play out like that. He desperately tries to fit in with his macho group of friends, who happen to be ‘some of the biggest dickheads to grace this planet’. And she is torn between feeling comfortable with the unexciting ‘nice guy’, or facing the games and pretences of modern dating.

C H AGO S 19 71 BLACK BAT PRODUCTIONS

ZOO PLAYGROUND

This is a bizarre, unbelievable, but true story – and a darkly hilarious play. In 1971, representatives of the US and UK governments made a heinous decision somehow still unheard of in either society today. After promising the Chagos Archipelago to the Americans a few years earlier, the British government opted to clear the indigenous people living there using a truly bizarre method. Chagos 1971 tells that story, by combining the factual beats of the real events (they get stranger) with an Armando Iannucci-style snappiness and farcical level of cutthroat comedy. ***** (Young-Perspective. net).

A personal meditation on the human need to understand the unexplainable and the abstract, illogical places we find answers. In the late 1800s, against a period of social and economic inequality, novelists wrote books about utopian societies where our lives are radically different. Today, against a period of social and economic inequality, we are going to try to do the same thing. We are going to take you into the future. Anorak return to the fringe with their new show, an exploration into how we imagine the future and what we want it to be. A utopian narrative for our uncertain, unstable times.

FORBRUKER CARL Forbruker: a one-woman advert break. 'I think it's a fact that, within consumer culture, the woman as an image is used as the interface between the consumed object and the consumer. [..] She's at the site of that exchange between what we want and what we can get' (Martin Crimp). Forbruker places female clown Frankie Thompson into the world of consumer culture. Through mime, lip-sync and general idiocy, she battles her way through branding and absurdity. A bittersweet taste of the simultaneous danger and innocence of advertising. THE RISE AND FALL OF PATTI SUPERB TEMPLE LIGHT THEATRE

ZOO PLAYGROUND

The Rise and Fall of Patti Superb. She's a true wild; a fool perhaps. Bare feet to earth, yet airborne, pulling language from the trees and reminding adults of things they ought to know. But now, shocked into eventual silence by the 'heavyheavy', she's locked inside an adult chock-a-block full of external directives. Blind under the blankets and holding someone else's handbag. How do you escape from here? And which way is home again? Solemn, comedic, melodic and episodic. Part adventure story, part half-time pep talk. For the true wilds and their allies.

She finds an outlet when she starts writing her blog and connecting with others who have had similar experiences. But her husband seems more and more uncomfortable with Charlotte's new project. When the wi-fi cuts out, Charlotte knows something isn't right. And then the walls start to close in. Yellow is a darkly humoured and immersive piece about women's illness today, which asks whether our attitudes have really changed at all.

Are you aware of the devastation that is possible by just one negative thought...? Do you know what will help you more: the wise words of Buddha or the fetish uniform of superhero He-Man...? Winner of Best Spoken Word Artist at Saboteur Awards 2017 and Poet in Residence at Glastonbury Festival, Dominic Berry promises to help you fail (slightly) less! 'I love the seriousness and the humour' (Benjamin Zephaniah). 'An exceptional force' (John McGrath, Artistic Director at National Theatre Wales).
