Every fold you drape Advanced Architectural design first year masters Oxford Brookes University The body piece and column draws inspiration from the Ultra Baroque religious paintings studied during my trip to south of Spain. As the prophet reaches for the heavens dramatically situated on a rock with his cloak intensely catching the wind – as he receives the revelation whilst the divine light shines through him to the commoners. I was very inspired by the cloak and how it framed the body and upon my return I started draping myself and 3D scanning how the cloth moulded itself over the body.

The proposal mimics the austerious nature of the cloak, as each piece of plywood is strategically laser cut, the pattern allows for the wings to prop out and interlock on to the next piece. Once the pieces were laser cut, they were soaked over night and steam bent one on top of each other. Building the body piece-by-piece and held in place using copper rods that act as a skeleton allowing the plywood to naturally drape over. The copper successfully bounces the light through the column emphasising on the presence of the drape in the absence of a body.
