ZOE NYE PORTFOLIO

Pattern making is someting that I am very passionate about. I have always loved “doodling” and have thoroughly enjoyed taking these types of drawings to the next level. Creating seamless patterns and seeing them repeated into a larger context is something that I am very interested in pursuing in some way. I would love to see my work as wallpaper or bedding in the future.

This has been a personal project that I have loved experimenting with. My boyfriend often comes up with fake band names and I had the idea to start creating logos for these imaginary bands. This has been a fun way to improve on my typography and design skills while using my creativity to imagine a “brand” for each of these names.
What began as pen drawings in a sketchbook, quickly turned into painting experimentation. I have thoroughly enjoyed taking my love of patterns into my paintings. I mostly create with acrylic paint because I love the vibracy and consistency of the colors. Painting is also very enjoyable for me to experiment with since I can always add more paint. There never feels like there is a true mistake in any painting, especially the more abstract pieces that I have created.
The following pages consist of my work from a graphic design course that I took to satisfy my Studio Art minor at the University at Buffalo. I really enjoyed learning about fundamental graphic design and marketing knowledge. Through iterations and group critiques, we learned how to design successful icons. A question that our professor often asked was, “What is the least amount of information that you can include so that the audience knows exactly what you are advertising?”
These images were designed through Machine Learning. The backgrounds are created by crossing images of doors with images of landscapes. The result is something that I find very fascinating and quickly began to imagine them as their own scenes. With Photoshop, I turned these generated images into glimpses into a different world. Some have a more fantastical feel to them while others seem as though they were taken directly from a travel magazine.
