Each unit includes… [1] Stainless steel chassis [1a] Tek screw holes (x2) [1b] Central platform [1c] Outlet [1d] Wingnut [2] Motor bolt [2a] Connector [3] Stainless steel chassis cover

[4] Motor driver [4a] Motor shaft [4b] Locking mechanism [5] Lure syringe [5a] Nozzle [5b] Bung [5c] O-ring [5d] Washer [6] 2 long Tek screws [7] 1 short Tek screw

To enable activation of the ZIP MotoLure motor driver, a magnet [8] will be provided along with every 1–10 ZIP MotoLures. The lure syringe will last up 12 months, depending on the rate of dispensing, before it must be replaced. Replacement syringes can be ordered from products@zip.org.nz. Each ZIP MotoLure comes with a 2-year warranty.

You will need… [9] A high torque (60Nm+) electric drill driver with cross-brace or an electric impact driver is recommended. Note that use of a low-torque drill may require pre-drilling of holes in the mounting surface using a long 3.5mm drill bit (not pictured)

[10] Tape measure [11] Gloves While ZIP takes all practical measures to ensure that our tools are both safe and easy to use, the edges of the stainless steel chassis [1] and cover [3] may be sharp in places. Gloves should be worn to minimise the risk of cut hands, particularly in rainy conditions when the MotoLure is wet.

3

1. Remove the cover from the chassis by loosening the wingnut all the way, lifting the cover slightly and sliding it away from the wingnut end.

2. Select a suitable surface on which to mount your ZIP MotoLure. We recommend mounting it to a stable tree or post. For possums, rats and stoats, the bottom of the ZIP MotoLure should sit 20–30 cm above ground level. 4

3. Insert the short Tek screw into the mounting surface, 15cm above the height that you have selected for the bottom of the ZIP MotoLure (i.e. 35–45cm above ground level for possums, rats and stoats). The chassis will rest against the head of this Tek screw, at the same level as the central platform, leaving a 5–10mm space between it and the mounting surface. This will enable the lure to drip down.

5

4. Attach the chassis. Holding the chassis in place, use the two long Tek screws, drilled through the Tek screw holes, to secure the chassis. The Tek screw washers must sit flat against the central platform, inside the chassis.

6

5. Unwind the motor bolt so that the end of the bolt does not extend below the central platform, to make room for the lure syringe.

7

6. Remove the red bung from the lure syringe. Check that the washer and O-ring are both firmly in place on the nozzle.

8

7. Place the lure syringe inside the chassis by inserting the nozzle into the outlet from above, then pushing the top of the lure syringe inwards to fit snugly below the central platform.

9

8. Hand wind the motor bolt down to make contact with the top of the syringe, then check that there are no jams or blockages by continuing to wind the motor bolt until a small amount of lure is dispensed from the outlet.

10

9. When placing the motor driver inside the chassis, the label on the motor driver should be visible, facing outwards. Lift the locking mechanism on the motor driver, and place the motor driver above the connector, rotating the motor bolt if required to fit the motor shaft into the connector. Push the locking mechanism down so that it makes a clicking noise.

11

10. Test the motor driver by placing a magnet against the top left-hand corner of the unit. You will hear the motor whir. Continue to do this until you can see lure dripping from the outlet.

12

11. Replace the chassis cover, lining up the four tabs on the chassis with the corresponding slits on the cover, then sliding the cover down towards the wingnut. The cover should sit flat against the chassis. Screw the wingnut firmly in place to secure the cover.

Troubleshooting • There is no way to turn off the MotoLure. Once you turn on the motor using the magnet, it will continue to run. The motor will last for around five years, and each syringe will typically last one year. • To test whether the MotoLure is on, run a magnet past the top left corner. If it is turned on, you will hear the motor whirr. If it is connected to the syringe, the syringe will dispense some lure. • If the motor does not engage, keep trying. The motor checks for the presence of a magnet every 3–4 seconds. Continue to swipe the magnet past the top left corner of the motor until you hear the motor whirr. • To order a replacement syringe, click visit our website1 or email products@zip.org.nz.

Replacing the syringe The syringes are designed to last for up to 12 months. This will vary depending on the amount of lure dispensed during the installation process. It is best to replace the syringe before, or shortly after, it runs out of lure. The device can be damaged when the motor continues to turn the motor bolt and there is no lure to dispense. You can order a replacement syringe via our website1 or by emailing products@zip.org.nz.

To replace the syringe: 1. Remove the cover of the MotoLure. 2. Lift the locking mechanism on the motor, slide the motor up, and remove it. 3. Turn the motor bolt anticlockwise until there is enough space to remove the syringe. Then, follow steps 6–11 (pp. 8–13) to insert the new syringe. If you have a few MotoLures, you may want to use a drill and attachment to make the process of unwinding and winding the motor bolt faster. You will need a 15 mm hex driver and an extender. You can purchase a Makita ImpactX Magnetic Nutsetter 5/16 inch 152mm from Mitre 102 or NZ Safety Blackwoods3.
