For luring and prefeeding
ZIP H2Lure Installation Guide – when fitting to a cage trap
The ZIP H2Lure is designed to provide continuous lure to improve the efficiency of cage trapping operations.
This guide provides instructions of two methods to secure the H2Lure to your cage trap:
Option 1: Using cable ties or wire
Option 2: Mounting the device on to a panel, for a more secure attachment. The panel size can vary from 70 × 80mm (i.e. the size of the H2Lure cage mount plastic piece), to the full dimensions of the cage itself, which will shield the dispensed lure from rain.
The instructions for attaching the H2Lure and stainelss cover are the same for both options once the cage mount plastic piece has been attached.

Parts provided
[1] 14G × 50mm TEK Screw × 2
[2] Cage mount plastic piece

IF MOUNTING TO A PANEL

*This will be your panel
[11] 3.5mm drill bit (must be sufficient to drill through stainless steel, if using)
[12] 14G 3-3.5mm drill bit (must be sufficient to drill through stainless steel, if using)
[13] Deburring tool (if using stainless steel)
Option
1: Using cable ties or wire
Instructions
The mayonnaise will dispense through the central hole of the black cage mount plastic piece. Begin by determining where this needs to be positioned on the cage to maximise the attractiveness of the trap to your target species.

1. Attach the cage mount plastic piece to the possum cage using cable ties or wire.
Option 2: Using a piece of stainless steel, hard plastic, or wood

1. Using the 3.5mm drill bit, drill a hole in the panel, using the black plastic piece as a template. The lure will be dispensed through this hole
If using stainless steel sheeting as your panel, remove the cage mount plastic piece and use the deburring tool on the drilled hole to remove any metal splinters.
2. Using the 3.5mm 14G drill bit, attach the cage mount plastic piece to the panel using the TEK screws, using any of the four holes. The TEK screws provided are 25mm.
If your panel is very thick, you may need to use longer screws.
Attaching the H2Lure and stainless covers
The method for attaching the H2Lure and stainelss cover are the same for both options.

1. Put the set screw through the edge of the cage mount plastic piece.
2. Attach the wingnut loosely
3. Remove the domed lid from the H2Lure

4. Screw the H2Lure into the plastic piece by hand. Line up the scale with the recessed section of the cage mount plastic piece – the opposite side to the wingnut
5. Fit the three sided stainless cover, lining up the cut outs in the stainless cover with the tabs on the cage mount plastic piece
6. Fit the second stainless piece with the wingnut on the outside, and hand tighten the wingnut

Quick Guide
OPTION 1 - CABLE TIES OR WIRE
Determine where H2Lure needs to be fitted for the mayonnaise to dispense in the right spot.
Attach cage mount plastic piece to top of the cage using cable ties or wire.
OPTION 2 – MOUNTING TO A PANEL
Determine where H2Lure needs to be fitted for the mayonnaise to dispense in the right spot.
Using 3.5mm drill bit, drill hole in panel.
Using 3.5m 14G drill bit, attach the cage mount plastic piece using the two TEK screws provided to the panel.
ATTACHING THE H2LURE AND STAINLESS COVER
Fit the second stainless piece so that the wingnut is on the outside. Hand tighten the wingnut. 1 2
Put the set screw and wingnut through the cage mount plastic piece.
Remove the domed end cap from the H2Lure.
Lightly screw the H2Lure into the cage mount plastic piece, by hand.
Fit the three sided stainless cover, lining up the cut outs in the stainless cover with the tabs on the cage mount plastic piece.
Troubleshooting
It can take up to two weeks for the mayonnaise to begin dispensing from the H2Lure. The hydrogen cell is turned on when the device is rotated with the lure scale the right way up. You may wish to rotate the device to turn it on before you deploy it. Alternatively, you can take another source of mayonnaise with you to place around the site until the H2Lure begins to dispense. We recommend Best Foods/Hellman’s brand egg mayonnaise.
If the device fails to dispense two weeks after being rotated, get in touch with us at products@zip.org.nz
The H2Lure will last a minimum of 10 months. Additional devices are available to purchase as required. Contact products@zip.org.nz.
The H2Lure and Tree Mount kit are both covered by a six-month warranty.
Empty H2Lures can be returned to us for refilling. Contact products@zip.org.nz for more information.
