ASSIGNMENT 01:‌‌ LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATIVE‌ DIMENSION OF INTERIOR DESIGN‌ As a future Graduate Interior Designer, students must possess a broad vocabulary and understanding of contractual, professional, and legislative terms. Each group is required to look into one key topic and conduct an indepth study to gain an adequate understanding how each term applies to the practice. Students will synthesize the Uniform Building by Laws 1984 and other relevant regulations related to provisions for interior (and some exterior) spaces.‌‌

Before this project, it had been a long time since I participated in a group‌ project, making this both a challenge and a learning opportunity. I‌ gained new skills, including how to register for IAR and IDCP, by‌ thoroughly researching the process, completing forms, and submitting‌ required documents.‌ This experience also highlighted the importance of task delegation and‌ teamwork. Each member's efficiency was crucial to the project's success,‌ and effective communication ensured smooth collaboration. Overall, the‌ project improved my responsibility, teamwork skills, and ability to handle‌ complex tasks efficiently.‌

ASSIGNMENT 02 ：‌ KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE FORUM‌

This task promotes democratic exchanges through online forums, enabling every student to share their voice and engage in professional and academic discussions with peers. As part of Professional Development Week (PDW) in Week 8, students must attend at least 6 seminars (TBC) and summarize their reflections on each seminar, combining personal insights and selected materials (text, images, screenshots).‌

CONCLUION:‌ Attending the seminar and reflecting on the key topics discussed-support Local Design, The Right Mentality for the Workforce: Drive, Grit and initiative, Future Direction of the Tourism industry, Beyond the Story: The Secret to Selling You Ideas, and Career Pathways of Quantity Surveyors in the Construction industry.has provided me with valuable insights that will shape my professional journey.The session on Support Local Design inspired me to consider how local culture and materials can be integrated into design projects. it emphasized the importance of sustainability, community engagement, and creating designs that reflect local identity.

This is something I can apply in my future work, not only to add value but also to contribute to the local economy and environment.The Right Mentality for the Workforce: Drive, Grit and initiative reminded me that success in any career requires more than just technical skills. Developing a mindset of perseverance, passion, and taking initiative is crucial. These qualities are what keep individuals motivated and resilient in the face of challenges, and recognize the importance of cultivating these traits to remain adaptable and focused in my career.‌

ASSIGNMENT 03 ：‌ FUTURE PRACTICES‌

This task invites students to reimagine the ideal architectural practice of the future by addressing challenges faced by architects and proposing innovative solutions and business models. Using insights from Project 1, students will critically evaluate data to define their vision and mission for a future design company. Through reflection and applying effective business practices, students will clarify their goals within a chosen business context.‌

CONCLUION:‌

Participating in this group assignment to research sole proprietorships has‌ been an enriching experience. Through collaboration, I gained a‌ comprehensive understanding of the structure, benefits, and challenges‌ associated with this business model.‌ Our team divided tasks effectively, which allowed us to explore various‌ aspects such as legal requirements, financial management, and the‌ responsibilities of a sole proprietor. I contributed by analyzing registration‌ processes and identifying key factors necessary for establishing and‌ managing a sole proprietorship in Malaysia. This process not only deepened‌ my knowledge but also improved my research and organizational skills.‌ Working in a team highlighted the importance of clear communication, task‌ delegation, and mutual support. It also taught me the value of integrating‌ diverse perspectives to achieve a thorough and balanced understanding of‌ the topic.‌ Overall, this group project strengthened my teamwork abilities while‌ equipping me with valuable insights into sole proprietorship, a foundation that‌ will be beneficial for my future career aspirations.‌

ASSIGNMENT 04 ：‌ BY-LAW APPLICATION AND PREREQUISITES FOR BUILDING PLAN SUBMISSION‌ Students are required to apply their knowledge gained in Project 1 & Discussions from Project 2 into their individual thesis projects from AIDP1. Each regulatory, legislative, or technical provisions must be translated into an informative graphical presentation with dimensions, drawings, isometric drawings, and materials where necessary.

CONCLUSION:‌

In analyzing the "Incense Making Club," I referred to the relevant regulations of the Uniform‌ Building By-Laws (UBBL) to ensure the space design and functionality meet building codes,‌ particularly regarding safety and practicality.‌ First, according to UBBL requirements for accessible design (Sections 34 and 35), the club’s‌ entrances and exits need to be designed for easy access, ensuring that all members and‌ visitors can enter and exit smoothly. Since incense making can produce smoke, I also‌ considered UBBL Section 42 regarding ventilation and lighting, ensuring the space has‌ proper ventilation and, if necessary, air purifiers to maintain indoor air quality.‌ Regarding fire safety, I followed UBBL Section 166, setting up fire prevention measures. Since‌ incense making involves open flames, we paid special attention to the placement of fire‌ extinguishers and the design of escape routes. Regular fire drills are also planned to ensure‌ safety.‌ Finally, based on UBBL Section 123 on space and occupancy capacity, we optimized the‌ layout of the club to ensure that each participant has sufficient space and that emergency‌ evacuation can be done swiftly, meeting safety standards.‌ This analysis made me realize the importance of following regulations. Designing the‌ "Incense Making Club" according to UBBL not only ensures the safety of the space but also‌ provides members with a comfortable and reliable place to work.‌

REFLECTION:‌ Through the Professional Practice module, I gained valuable experience that enhanced‌ my overall abilities as an interior designer. This learning experience deepened my‌ understanding of how to manage and execute a design project, particularly in areas‌ such as financial planning, contract management, and legal compliance. Studying the‌ Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) made me realize that design is not just about creativity‌ but also ensuring safety, such as installing necessary fire protection equipment and‌ emergency exit routes to guarantee user safety at all times.‌ I learned how to balance functionality, user needs, and building codes, avoiding risks‌ and optimizing space efficiency in my designs. Researching innovative materials and and‌ sustainable design practices broadened my perspective, encouraging me to think about‌ how to enhance both aesthetics and practicality while being environmentally‌ responsible. Additionally, group projects made me more aware of the importance of‌ communication. By discussing and collaborating with others, I was able to effectively‌ solve design challenges and gain more creative insights from different viewpoints.‌ Attending industry forums and workshops further enhanced my understanding of‌ market trends and the latest developments in the field. I also learned how to establish‌ good communication with clients, suppliers, and partners, which strengthened my‌ overall competitiveness in the professional field. These experiences have given me a‌ more comprehensive understanding of the interior design industry and increased my‌ confidence in facing industry challenges.‌ Overall, this module not only boosted my professional capabilities but also gave me‌ clearer direction for my future career.
