In exploring the intersection of incense making and sound at Petaling Street, my concept investigates how the aromatic rituals of incense integrated with the vibrant sounds of this bustling market create a unique sensory experience. By examining the interplay between incense and local auditory elements, such as street vendors, traditional music, and ceremonial chants, I aim to uncover how these combined sensory elements enhance the immersive atmosphere of Petaling Street, reflecting a deep cultural synergy between smell, sound, and the lively market environment.”
the model employs a series of interconnected tubes to symbolize the journey of incense from raw ingredients to aromatic completion. Each tube represents a distinct stage: from initial material processing to blending and burning. The integration of sound elements within these tubes enhances the sensory experience, with specific sounds corresponding to each phase of incense creation. This dynamic interplay between auditory and olfactory elements within the tubes illustrates the harmonious relationship between craftsmanship and sensory perception.
The fusion of incense and sound creates a multi-sensory narrative that invites participants into an immersive experience. Each phase of the incensemaking process is synchronized with specific soundscapes, from the rustle of raw materials to the rhythmic grinding and blending of ingredients. In the next phase, students will collaborate in groups to develop an exploratory site project. You and your team will define the project's scope, allowing for a broad range of possibilities in your exploratory drawings. Your concepts should address the specific needs of the site and may explore a range of design approaches.
These approaches can include, but are not limited to, whimsical, social, economic, speculative, political, or poetic perspectives. It is essential that each design intention is meticulously aligned with the context of the site and its unique characteristics.
The objective is to develop design possibilities that respond to the context of REX KL through spatial experiences. This should aim to foster a vibrant and creative city by integrating interior architecture with cultural appreciation.
Working on the website team has been an insightful and rewarding experience. Designing and customizing templates allowed for creative expression while ensuring functionality. Adding and tailoring content emphasized the importance of effective communication and visual appeal. Integrating features and apps enhanced my understanding of improving user experience and site functionality.
The challenge of optimizing for SEO highlighted the significance of search engine visibility and mobilefriendly design. Regular updates and maintenance underscored the need to stay current with trends. This role emphasized collaboration, attention to detail, and adaptability, deepening my appreciation for the multifaceted nature of web development.
In Phase 3 of the project, I designed a multifunctional space that blends a workshop area with a cutting-edge lab. This space is crafted to offer participants an immersive experience where they can explore and learn the modern techniques of incense-making. The hands-on workshop provides practical insights, while the lab introduces them to innovative methods, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and contemporary practices in incense crafting.
The curation of this board is about the sound that transmits from the incense-making process, capturing the intricate interplay of mechanics and tradition. The design showcases an industrial yet harmonious scene where machinery seems to be in rhythmic motion. The various components, from steam pipes to rotating gears, contribute to a symphony of industrial sounds, resonating with the methodical creation of incense. Each element not only plays a functional role grinding, mixing, or shaping the incense but also adds to the auditory experience, transforming a routine manufacturing process into a dynamic, sensory-rich performance.

For the Phase 3 model, I applied my newfound understanding of tailoring from this semester. I opted for bright colors and high-gloss paper to bring a vibrant touch to the model.
To enhance the display, I incorporated pipes and incense, showcasing the model’s features and activities. On the board, I highlighted the characteristics of each area by cutting out layers to represent both the incense-related elements and their functionalities.
This semester, I've delved deeply into interior architecture design, facing various challenges from conceptualization to execution. Each project has allowed me to transform abstract ideas into tangible spatial layouts, honing my skills in material selection, lighting, and color coordination.
These experiences have not only sharpened my design thinking and technical abilities but have also underscored the value of teamwork and efficient task completion. I've become more detail-oriented and am now more focused on balancing innovation with functionality in my future designs. I’m truly excited about the journey ahead and feel a renewed confidence in my chosen path.
