mberfield is a fairly new development in the western part of Centurion. This gem of a suburb mainly consists of modern estates offering a variety of properties, such as houses, townhouses, duets and apartments.

Amberfield is cleverly positioned neighbouring well-established suburbs like Wierdapark and Rooihuiskraal.

This ensures easy access to strong infrastructure and a wealth of amenities close by, while residents can retreat to the peace and quiet of estate living at the end of the day. Each estate has its own entrance gate, where access is monitored and controlled, and residents can rest assured that their safety is a top priority.

A further drawcard is Amberfield’s location; it’s close to the N14 (Krugersdorp) and N1 highways, as well as main roads, like Rooihuiskraal Road (M37), Ruimte Road (R114) and the R55, ensuring comfortable commuting to either Pretoria, Midrand, Krugersdorp or Sandton.

The suburb is also on the Gautrain bus service route to the Centurion station. Both OR Tambo and Lanseria

international airports are under an hour’s drive away from Amberfield.

Amberfield and its neighbouring suburbs boast a vast array of top educational and daycare facilities for babies and toddlers, as well as primary and high school pupils.

Churches from just about every denomination are represented in the area. The Rooihuiskraal Library, offering some food for the mind, is a stone’s throw away.

Cricket lovers can support their favourite team at SuperSport Park in Centurion approximately 9km from Amberfield. Centurion Action Sports arena is also around the corner, and several outstanding golf courses are within short distance from the suburb.

Each estate offers plenty of open space in a secure environment.

Families taking a stroll, relaxing at a communal area, kids riding their bikes and residents walking their dogs are familiar sights in this neighbourhood and a valuable advantage of living in an estate.

Amberfield is a tranquil suburb where residents can enjoy shopping, or watch movies and indulge in scrumptious meals at the nearby Mall at Reds and vibrant Forest Hill City, which boasts an ice rink and play area for kids. Alternatively, enjoy an afternoon out at the Rooihuiskraal Resort/Nature Reserve with its serene surroundings. It’s ideal for family outings, private functions, picnics and weekend braais.

Amberfield is a fairly new suburb in Rooihuiskraal North.

With almost half the population being middle-aged, followed by young adults between the ages of 18 and 35, it’s a vibrant and upcoming neighbourhood.

With all the upmarket shopping centres, including the Mall at Reds and Raslouw Lifestyle Centre, health and fitness outlets as well as numerous family restaurants, this suburb is perfect for the young at heart.

Families considering buying property in Amberfield will find that the area has a lot to offer.

Amberfield has six individual estates with separate entrances and 24-hour controlled security access. All of these estates are well managed and offer parks and communal areas where families can safely spend time together. iddies Aqua’s service offering includes Self-Rescue Water Safety courses for babies (six months to eight months), Learn-toSwim and Swim Readiness courses for toddlers (two to 10 years old), Stroke and Stroke-Correction courses for young competitive swimmers (any age) and Stroke Courses for adults (any age). Owner and head coach, Lizette Botha, tells us more.

Q: How did your business start?

A: Swimming is a life skill, and the younger children start swimming, the better. Drowning is the main cause of deaths among children under the age of five. Worldwide, more than 400 children drown every day (one child every three minutes). In South Africa, one child drowns every day. The business, therefore, started out of the need to make children water-safe.

Q: Why did you choose this area to set up shop?

A: We chose Moreleta Park because of its demographic profile and its location. Its inhabitants are mostly upmarket middle-class people with young children. It also borders other upmarket suburbs, like Erasmuskloof, Woodhill, Parkview and Mooikloof with

similar demographic profiles.

Our premises are highly visible to passing traffic and easy to find.

Q: How did you find your premises?

A: The landlord was preparing the premises for another swim school, and then that person withdrew from the transaction due to personal reasons. We were very fortunate to be at the right place at the right time. We immediately moved in.

Q: Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?

A: Because of the location, the strong visibility and ample parking. But the space has become way too small for us and we’re planning to move to larger premises, but will still keep these premises as a satellite.

Q: Who are your neighbours?

A: Residential owners, a small gymnasium, a hair salon and a beauty parlour.

Q: What are the shop rental/ sales prices like in this area?

A: The rent is very reasonable, but we need to maintain and improve the property ourselves, which is quite costly.

Q: How many people visit your business each day?

A: We’ve got more than 1,000 families affiliated to us. We receive approximately 350 swimmers per day (excluding parents, grandparents, nannies, brothers and sisters). I would say approximately 800 pairs of feet visiting us daily.

Q: Do you have any expansion plans?

A: In February we opened a new branch at the indoor facility at the University of Pretoria (Sports Centre). The university approached us as part of its strategy to build capacity for its swim club. In July of this year we will be opening a branch in Durban. As part of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation we are soon starting with a series of water safety and water awareness campaigns in conjunction with the University of Pretoria, its staff and students. I've been a board member of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation since 2014 and also taught the Princess’s twins to be water safe.

Q: Do you operate online as well?

A: We have strong social media campaigns (more than 10,000 followers on Facebook) and a very active website.

Q: What’s your most popular service?

A: The Self-Rescue Water Safety course for babies (Amphibies Babies Africa/Les Bébés Amphibies – Switzerland) is very popular, seeing that it differentiates our business from other swim schools in Tshwane and the rest of SA.
