The Marshall Commons Voice Tuesday night’s (March 24th) Chili Fest was ‘on fire’. With over 6 different chili recipes made we hit everything on the spectrum from Jamaican spice to deer chili, even turkey chili and sweet chili. For our vegan friends we had meatless chili. Along with the RAs that made chili, we brought in (NAME OF PRO CHEFS) to cook their own chili for the residents while explaining different cooking techniques. Kyle Rheude made ‘sweet and heat’, JT Roberts made his style, Damone Chang made Jamaican spice chili, Bailey Rappold made habanero peper chili, Jess Kennedy made her turkey chili, Hallie Andrews made vegan chili, and Montana Wamsley made deer chili. While this wasn’t a competition, the chili makers all had the professional chefs taste test their chili. While they didn’t have a favorite, they did say they liked all of them and gave some advice to all our cooks. Overall this was a successful program with a great turnout. There

were over 40 residents that came out to the festival and almost no chili

left over. The Commons RAs plan to make this an annual event and even get residents involved with the chili cooking. Next year they hope to have residents enter their chili into the festival to show off their chili making skills. If you or anyone you know has a great chili recipe they want to enter talk to your RA or wait till next year when you see the fliers go up and Commons Staff will buy all the ingredients you need so all you have to do is cook it. Also, anyone that went to the chili fest is encouraged to talk to your

RA about ways to improve the program for next year. To all of you that came out thanks for showing up!

The Twin Towers East Times

The “Fun in the Sun” program will be conducted by RAs Ali Richards and Izzy Egloff where they will take residents outside of Towers East to express their artistic side and paint on canvases using paint filled balloons and darts. The “Exercise Myths Busted” program by RAs Chris DeBoard and Cody Billings will give residents the opportunity to learn what exercise techniques that work and which ones are popular misconceptions. “Step INTO the Groove of Leadership” will be an event designed by RAs Chereign Kelsor, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Darius Booker to give residents some insight on how to become more involved in the INTO center. This program will also feature some information on what the INTO center is and what are some activities they are responsible for on campus. Lastly we have the “Finals Stress Re-

lief Program” which will feature Dr. Hinton as the guest speaker to come and give helpful study tips and ways to avoid stress during the end of the semster when finals will take place. Last month during March we had many successful programs in Towers East. RA Jack took his residents over to the Rec Center for a boxing fitness class to learn self defense as well as basic beginner boxing techniques. RA Chereign gave out smoothies and nutrition tips for students to eat healthy while living on campus with the help of faculty member Jana Hovland. Chereign also had a program with the help of student body president Duncan Waugaman to talk about how to vote for student government positions, how to get involved on campus, and to answer any other questions that were concerning the residents.

End of the Year Picnic April 30th at 4:00pm Harless Field

The Twin Towers West Times During the month of March, Twin Towers West wanted to send their residents off for spring break in a special way. On March 11th, residents met in the glass lounge for a pre-spring break themed send off. Whether traveling abroad, spending the break on campus or at home with family and friends, or traveling to a beach destination, we wanted to provide students with information to ensure a productive spring break. We took the time to ensure they would be going with information necessary to stay safe. For those not traveling, we encouraged residents to use spring break to prepare for summer employment or internship opportunities. Over Hawaiian themed foods, RAs and residents discussed safety tips and the proper precautions that should be taken to avoid dangerous situations while on traveling. We also had discussions about career development and planning and gave students action items to complete over their break. In addition to this program, we also took a mental health initiative

in the form of a passive program called “Post Secret.” Through this, residents get to anonymously tell their secrets in a non-threatening environment. While some submissions were lighthearted, other submissions highlight serious struggles faced by our campus community. Having the opportunity to get these secrets off their chest, residents will hopefully be able to connect with others and develop a sense of belonging. Secrets displayed have and will continue to spark dialogue about what students are going through during their time at college and open other’s eyes about personal challenges of fellow students. Resources have been provided to allow students the opportunity to connect with the appropriate campus resources. Looking forward to the month of April, we will be observing Earth Day with a special “Power Hour” event at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 22.This “Power Hour” sustainability event will also coincide with a showing of a special PBS Nature documentary Honey Badgers: Masters of Mayhem!
