Dear Parents, The second half of the year 2017 is coming to an end and we would like to show our deepest gratitude to St Hilda’s Primary School and our parents for their ever constant support in ensuring that our students are able to enjoy their holistic learning experience to their fullest in a safe environment. It has been an astounding journey for both the mentors and students of YMCA SCC @ St Hilda’s with tons of exciting moments that forged everlasting memories. Let us take a tour down the last six months and be fascinated by the various activities done with the students.

Holiday Programmes Fun & Enjoyable Moments @ The Tampines Hub Students were brought to the Tampines Hub for some fun and excitement during the term break to rest and relax. The students also explored the newly built hub with many facilities such as the children’s playground, Eco-Garden, Giant Theatre Screen, and best of all, the library!

Students had the opportunity to visit the many plantations in the garden that was planted by the residents. They even went to the supermarket to buy their own items. This helps the children to be more independent and improve on their confidence. After that the children went to the outdoor theatre to rest and enjoy the show displayed on the huge movie screen.

Otah & Soon Kueh Factory Otah & Soon Kueh are delicious delicacies which some students may not have tasted. They were given an opportunity to visit one of the very few factories that still does handmade delicacies.

After the visit, students bought and savoured the taste of these delicious foods.

Students were taken on a tour in the factory and were told how the Soon Kuehs are made.

Animal Farm Students went on a trip to an animal farm where they got the opportunity to see, play and touch all the cute little farm animals. (Left) Students were given a short lesson on the various farm animals, about the food they eat, the kind of habitat the animals live in and how are the animals are taken care of.

Singapore Zoo With the newly built area “KidzWorld� and many more new animals to see, students went on a trip to the Singapore Zoo housing more than 2,800 animals representing over 300 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Singapore Zoo has been known for having among the most beautiful wildlife park settings in the world, where animals roam freely in open and naturalistic habitats.

Gardens by the Bay (Cloud Forest) Students were taken on a journey to the Cool-Moist Conservatory, the Cloud Forest where there are breath-taking mountain views that are surrounded by diverse vegetation and hidden floral gems. The children learnt about the rare plants and their fast-disappearing environment. (Left) Students taking a photograph beneath the cool mist of the waterfall. They can’t wait to get to the top of the mountain!

(Right) Students got to the top of the mountain to know that the carnivorous plants are awaiting their arrival! Students looking happy because they finally got to see a meat-eating plant!

(Left) Students walking through the 35-meters high Treetop walk. They saw the fascinating plants at the planted walls filled with orchids, delicate ferns, colorful bromeliads and many more.

Gardens by the Bay (Flower Dome) After visiting the Cloud Forest and learning about rare plants, students then went on to the Cool-Dry Conservatory, the Flower Dome where they were amazed by the changing display of flowers and plants from the Mediterranean and semi-arid region. It is also the largest glass greenhouse in the world!

(Left) Christmas season is here, Santa Claus is in the tree house awaiting the arrival of the children! The children couldn’t wait for their turn to take a photograph with Santa.

(Right) Oh look, a christmas tree! In a split second, our students ran to pose with the christmas tree. The smiles on their faces tell us how much fun they are having in the flower dome.

(Left) At the end of the tour in the flower dome, we came across this beautiful cage of pretty flowers. This time, everyone gathered to strike a pose to mark this wonderful and memorable trip.

Fun with Crayons After a long day of school, students got engaged with fun-filled activities to relax and have fun.

Children’s Day We celebrated Children’s Day on 6 October 2017, Friday! First off, the children had a huge feast to gain energy in order to participate in the games segments as shown on the right! The students had so much fun singing and dancing!

Volleyball Lessons 7|Page


To take a break from looking at books and assessments, students had some outdoor volleyball lessons taught by the school’s PE teacher and his volleyball boys!

After all the mini matches, students ended the lessons with hand shakes. Now thats sportsmanship!

YMCA 5th Story Telling Competition 2017 – Kindness Every year, YMCA of Singapore organises a story telling competition. The students memorise short stories and display their talents to the judges and audiences. (Left) A good job by P1 Declan Xu in doing his best to enter the Finals!

Dance Battles of 2017! As the year 2017 is coming to an end, students end the year with so much fun and laughter, but definitely not forgetting…………DANCE BATTLES!!
