This is going to be the Best Summer Ever!

New for Summer 2015!

Our YMCA Southcoast Day Camp programs will be following new upgrades introduced by YMCA of the USA where our camp directors and leaders will be intentionally focusing on activities that foster ACHIEVEMENT, RELATIONSHIPS AND BELONGING. Our goal is to continue to build social-emotional, cognitive and physical development activities into the fun, enriching experiences that we have always offered through our day camps.

As always our Y Day Camps will offer your child a positive developmental experience and will encourage them to forge bonds with each other and with our leaders; building confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Additionally, your child will experience a sense of achievement through opportunities in the outdoors and are welcomed to a physically and emotionally safe and stimulating environment whether in a Y facility or at an outdoor day camp site. Day camp helps build an interest in community with experiences in local and global cultures where campers gain an appreciation for others different from themselves.

YMCA Camp Readers is another new initiative that we have embraced from YMCA of the USA where we add a FUN reading and/or educational game component into every camp day. We want to support our local schools in helping to tackle the academic “summer slump” that has been identified throughout our region.

YMCA Southcoast has been a leading provider of quality day camp programs for over 50 years. We’re here to help you in selecting the right camp opportunities for your child. YMCA SOUTHCOAST Day Camps provide a happy, healthy environment for children to learn and grow. Children have the opportunity to build self-confidence, independence, and creativity, while parents have the peace of mind knowing their children are in a safe and enriching place.

SAFETY ∙ Accreditation & Licensing

Our campers are staffed by counselors who are genuinely interested in working with children—certified in First Aid and CPR. Each staff member must pass a rigorous background check before they start working at camp. In addition, each camp complies with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Health and local boards of health. YMCA Southcoast day camps operate according to standards set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA accredits each of ® our day camp programs. The ACA believes “Camp gives kids a World of Good ” because camp is a building block to the successful development of young people. This independent body establishes standards for key aspects of camp operation, program quality, health and safety of campers. Our partnership with ACA means we promote fun and learning in a safe environment. ACA accreditation signifies to parents and the public that a camp cares enough to thoroughly review its operational practices, seek the wisdom of other camp professionals, and make necessary improvements to comply with up to 275 professional camp standards. ACA standards are recognized by courts of law and government regulators as the standards for camp. ACA standards establish criteria for: • Emergency preparedness • Staff training • Personnel • Living areas • Food service • Developmentally appropriate activities • Health care • Transportation • Administrative procedures

Y Day Camp is much more than a summer activity for kids. It is a place for values, learning, skill building, self-confidence and fulfilling dreams.

Registration Information Registration Information

Online registration is available 24/7 at ymcasouthcoast.org or you may register in person during office hours. You can also fill out a registration packet and send it along with payment to the branch that you are planning to attend. Registration forms and any other necessary camp forms can be downloaded from our website at ymcasouthcoast.org. Early camper registration is strongly encouraged as space becomes limited. Contact the camp director for possible late season registrations and availability.

Required Forms

Please provide the camp with any information that will help give your child a positive camp experience.

• Health History – Every camper must have this form completed each year.

• Immunization Record – Every camper must have this form or equivalent signed by physician.

• Registration Form – Every camper must have this form signed by a parent/guardian.

Camp Extended Care

Extended Care is available at all YMCA SOUTHCOAST Summer Day Camps. Morning care is available from 7:30–9 am and evening care is available from 4–5:30 pm. Supervision and limited activities will be provided.

Authorized Pick Up

Please list anyone who is 16 or older that you would allow your child to be released to when it is time to pick them up from camp. Proper identification is required before a child will be released. This policy is strictly enforced.

Photo Release

The Y uses photographs of program participants in its promotional and marketing materials. If you do not want your child to be photographed during camp, please indicate this on the back of the registration form.

Payment Information Convenient Payment Plans and Options

Monthly payment plans are encouraged. Set your plan as early as January 2015 to allow for lower monthly payments. You may sign up for our biweekly or monthly electronic payment plan using your checking account or credit card. Contact the respective camp office for more information. Registrations will not be held past the due date without full payment.

If the monthly or biweekly plans don’t meet your needs, we will work with you to arrange a plan that does.

Deposit Fee

A deposit fee of $50 per session, per child is required at the time of registration. The deposit fee is not refundable and cannot be transferred to other programs, persons or sessions. This deposit is applied toward your total camp fee. Families with a current PACE voucher do not need to provide a deposit, but all paperwork including a copy of the voucher is required to reserve your child’s place at camp.

Payment Due Dates

Payment is due one week prior to the camp session start date.

Cancellations, Refunds and Withdrawals

A written two week notice is required to withdraw your child from camp. Tuition, less the $50 deposit, will be refunded if notice is received two weeks prior to your child’s camp session. Refunds after the start of the camp session are made only if the child has an illness or an injury requiring doctor’s care or a note from the physician stating that he/she is unable to participate in camp activities. Please be advised that refunds take 2-3 weeks. Requests for session changes should be submitted at least one week prior to the earliest session involved in the change.

Financial Assistance

If economic or other family circumstances prevent your child from participating in our camp, please fill out a financial assistance application and return it to the camp of your choice no later than May 31, 2015.

• All requests are confidential.

• All required documentation must accompany request.

• YMCA Southcoast welcomes all recipients of state vouchers and subsidy programs.

• Due to the number of campers who receive financial assistance we are only able to provide each child with up to two weeks of camp.

• PACE Vouchers If you are eligible to receive funding through PACE Child Care Works, a copy of the voucher is required to reserve a space for your child. If you have an approved voucher for camp you will be charged according to your parent fee amount.

Multi-Child Discount Program

Available at Camp Massasoit, Metacomet, and Nep-In-Nae This program is designed for families with two or more children. We thank you for your family’s commitment to our camps and want to pass the savings on to you. Families who receive financial aid or other subsidized funds are not eligible for this discount.

Camp Frederick Douglass at the New Bedford YMCA The small, fun, nurturing environment of Camp Frederick Douglass allows each camper an opportunity to build self esteem and trusting relationships. Through programming that enriches the spirit, mind and body, the staff of Camp Frederick Douglass helps each child learn to develop their physical and social skills. Day campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. The friendships that campers make here at Camp Frederick Douglass will last a lifetime.

Camp Massasoit at the Mattapoisett YMCA Located on the beautiful Mattapoisett Harbor, Camp Massasoit has a legacy and tradition as a premier summer camp experience. Since 1962 our camp has been developing and nurturing children into the future leaders of tomorrow.

Through traditional offerings such as archery, swimming, and boating to more unique programming like our challenge course with rock wall and zip line, sailing, sea kayaking, and dramatic arts, we nurture the potential of every camper.

In addition, our special theme weeks, theme days, camp songs, and funny skits create a camp spirit that few other day camp programs can match. Each camper is sure to develop new skills while making lifelong friendships.

Camp Metacomet at the Dartmouth YMCA Located on a 58 acre ecological, diverse site including a working farm, hardwood forest, new high ropes adventure course, and rolling green fields, Camp Metacomet offers an ideal setting for sports, nature, and outdoor programming.

From traditional offerings such as archery, sports, and our challenge course to more unique programs like our young farmers program, and learn to swim camp—your child will surely learn new skills. All specialty camp participants develop unique skills through their program choice and benefit through traditional camp activities. In addition, our theme weeks and special events create a spirit that few other day camp programs can match. Each camper is sure to develop new skills while making lasting friendships that carry on throughout their lives. Kids have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. And of course, it’s fun too. This program is designed for teens who are determined to become future camp staff. It nurtures leadership and responsibility while training young adults in the skills necessary to become potential staff members.

Campers will receive certifications in First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse Prevention, and Ropes Course Belay Training. This camp program runs four weeks at Camp Nep-In-Nae and six weeks at Camp Massasoit and Camp Metacomet.

Adventure Challenge

This camp is for the adventurous youth who would like to challenge themselves and reach new heights. This program will incorporate initiative games, the ropes course challenges, as well as developing leadership and survival skills.

Campers will saute, bake, blend, and braise. The camp chefs will create a variety of dishes, and serve them with style.

From intricate crafts to hammers and nails, campers will design and build all sorts of innovative creations.

If you have the passion for the performing arts, this camp program will introduce campers to improvisation and role playing, while working towards an actual theatric performance. Campers of all experience levels are welcome. This is a one week camp at Camp Nep-In-Nae and two week camp at Camp Massasoit.

Want everyone to CHEER for your team? Cheer staff will aim to instill self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork in a fun environment. Campers will practice stunting, jumps, cheers, dance, and tumbling in this week long camp. Swimming, crafts, and other activities may be included.

Golf Pro

Golf is a great sport that can be played your whole life. The Dartmouth YMCA has partnered with Allendale Country Club to provide this two-week camp experience. Campers will learn golf skills—putting, chipping, sand shots, and full shots with irons and woods from Allendale’s PGA Professional. In addition, they will learn the basic rules of the game, golf etiquette, sportsmanship and have fun playing some golf holes on the course. Participants will receive a club at the end of the program.

Hip Hop

This camp will build confidence, team work and social skills, allowing campers to express their creative abilities. Come learn some great dance moves of the past, present, and future.

Junior Lifeguard

If your child has remained at the same level or is not showing much improvement, an accelerated learn to swim week is perfect. They will learn stroke refinement, survival skills, games, sports, and water safety. In one week, they will spend as much time as two, 7 week sessions in the pool.

Campers will take part in a variety of Lego themed activities from cooperative build, free build, building challenges and much more all while still getting the great benefit of camp.

Develop physical fitness, mental discipline and learn karate techniques through this amazing form of Korean Martial Arts.

This camp will provide valuable information on aquatic environments and teach campers how to swim safely.

Camp will also introduce CPR and First Aid, basic rescue skills, and swim lesson instruction.

This unique program focuses on communication and leadership skills. Through participation in a number of group activities and challenges that focus on teamwork and community service projects, young teens will develop a sense of social responsibility and build genuine friendships.

Movie Making

In collaboration with ORCTV this experience is for campers age 12-15 who are interested in exploring the world of video production. Campers will learn about story boarding, camera operation techniques and video editing. The final product will be a movie centering around the life at Camp Massasoit.

Musical Theater

This new camp will combine both music and drama!

Campers will put on one performance a week using the musical instruments and acting skills they discovered at camp. This camp will be geared towards those enthusiastic campers who have a flair for the dramatic!

Advanced Sailing - Opti Racing

This camp offers a unique blend of teamwork and self-reliance by teaching to all levels while focusing on safety and general nautical knowledge. Campers will learn aboard Capri 14.2s and Optis. No prior sailing experience required. Campers must be minnow level and/or pass swim test prior to enrollment. Swim tests are conducted at the Gleason, New Bedford, and Fall River branches.

Campers will learn the basic paddling strokes, boat safety, take trips around the harbor, and participate in camp activities. Campers must be minnow level and/ or pass swim test prior to enrollment. Swim tests are conducted at the Gleason, New Bedford, and Fall River branches.

This advanced sailing camp provides an introduction to the sport of sailboat racing in the Mattapoisett Harbor. This camp teaches participants basic racing rules, advanced sailing technique, racing strategy, sportsmanship, and problem solving. Each session concludes with a mini regatta at Camp Massasoit.

Prior sailing experience is required. Campers must be minnow level and/or pass swim test prior to enrollment.

Swim tests are conducted at the Gleason Family, New Bedford, and Fall River YMCA branches.

Campers will create exciting new clay projects half the day and also participate in traditional camp activities. Campers will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques, surface design application, and even get their hands on the potter’s wheel! By the end of the session, campers will have gained new skills in ceramics and have a collection of beautiful, glazed pottery to enjoy for years to come.

River Exploration

In collaboration with the Buzzards Bay Coalition we provide an active nature camp focused on learning and stewardship.

There will be plenty of hands-on exploration of the Mattapoisett River. Campers will hike, help clear trails, explore the woods, investigate the environment, and host a parent presentation. Field trips to the Y’s Rochester property on Snipatuit Pond are part of the program. Campers will boat, swim, and participate in some specialty activities.

This camp is for those youth who enjoy playing a wide variety of sports. Every day will focus on a different sport, including basketball, home run derby, hockey, ultimate frisbee and more!

Explore science with hands on experiments, demonstrations, and lots of fun with earth science, physics, chemistry, and biology. Campers will be supplied with kid-friendly, kitchen-friendly ideas for experiments to do at home! Experimenting with ordinary things that melt into goop, ooze, fizz, bang, bounce or bubble. Some will be even good to eat!

Taste of Fields campers will learn to prepare and serve healthy snacks and meals using fresh produce.

Camp Metacomet

Camp themes are a staple at YMCA Southcoast summer camps.

NEW for the summer of 2015, Camp Metacomet campers will be planning the themes for our camp. During the February and April school vacation weeks past campers will meet to design and prepare the themes for their peers this summer. Stay tuned as this camp involvement will introduce the key component of leadership and intentional decision making skills. Themes will be announced in May 2015.

Convenient Payment Plans and Options

Monthly payment plans are encouraged. Set your plan as early as January 2015 to allow for lower monthly payments.

You may sign up for our biweekly or monthly electronic payment plan using your checking account or credit card.

Contact the respective camp office for more information. Registrations will not be held past the due date without full payment. If the monthly or biweekly plans don’t meet your needs, we will work with you to arrange a plan that does.

First Name

A deposit fee of $50 per session, per child is required at the time of registration. The deposit fee is not refundable and cannot be transferred to other programs, persons or sessions. This deposit is applied toward your total camp fee. Families with a current PACE voucher do not need to provide a deposit, but all paperwork including a copy of the voucher is required to reserve your child’s place at camp.

Payment is due one week prior to the camp session start date.

Cancellations, Refunds and Withdrawals

A written two week notice is required to withdraw your child from camp. Tuition, less the $50 deposit, will be refunded if notice is received two weeks prior to your child’s camp session. Refunds after the start of the camp session are made only if the child has an illness or an injury requiring doctor’s care or a note from the physician stating that he/she is unable to participate in camp activities. Please be advised that refunds take 2-3 weeks.

Requests for session changes should be submitted at least one week prior to the earliest session involved in the change.

Financial Assistance

Please list anyone who is 16 or older that you would allow your child to be released to when it is time to pick them up from camp. Proper identification is required before a child will be released. This policy is strictly enforced.
