This book has been created in support of the Open House London project which offers members of the public the opportunity to re-discover and celebrate some of London’s most iconic buildings. By amalgamating the Barbicans Germanic Brutalist architectural design with the similarly modernist approach to graphic design created by the Bauhaus school of art, this book aims to revisit both from a new perspective.

This is a book of two halves: One half to show inspiration in its original form; the other to reveal it’s transformation into something new. The first half contains all original photography showing the Brutalist form of architecture that the Barbican estate and arts centre is renowned for. Angles and perspectives were chosen specifically to highlight the bold design choices and distinctive shapes found throughout the structures. Flip the book over to discover how this modernist approach to architectural design can be transformed into strikingly stylish examples of graphic design. Taking cues from the Bauhaus style whilst continuing with the Germanic connections found within Barbicans Brutalist structures, yet with a more contemporary feel.
