THE FLATS & THE ROW HOMES

Yerba Buena Island invites Residents to a rare lifestyle that blends restorative natural surroundings with immediate access to all that city living affords. It’s a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of a big city, where Residents can return home and feel a sense of peace and security. Here, they enjoy every convenience at their fingertips.
The Flats and The Row Homes are a limited collection of our most exquisite living experiences. Expansive indoor and outdoor spaces highlight views not found in any other San Francisco neighborhood, connecting Residents to what makes our destination so alluring. Yet the feeling of being here makes you question how two completely opposite worlds could be so accessible to one another.
Whether it is our love of the outdoors, our embrace of our very distinct community, or our pride in our “San Francisco values,” we are here because we want to be whole people. And part of that is being taken outside of ourselves at Yerba Buena Island; when we look out a window or turn a corner and catch a glimpse of some dramatic view, we’re reminded that the world around us is a very special place.
The island and its views are an evolving canvas, and by partnering with a best-in-class team of designers, The Row Homes and The Flats take shape in an incredible way. Every detail of the experience, from the neighborhood design by award-winning Hart Howerton to the interior design by Meyer Davis, is curated to elevate personal pursuits, encourage exploration, and create the feeling of a transformative living experience. From The Island Club amenities to social events and fitness classes, 24/7 security, Clipper Cove, expansive trails and parks, and endless opportunities to connect with a community of peers, Yerba Buena Island is a remarkable place to call home.

The Evolution of an Island A Visionary Address
Storied lives find the promise of a storied future here. Yerba Buena Island, and neighboring Treasure Island, have laid witness to the comings and goings of peoples and bookmarked moments in time. From its settlement as early as 1450 B.C., to the Spanish explorers of the late 1700s, to its time as Goat Island in the early 1800s, and to the World’s Fairs in 1939 and 1940, this island has seen an evolution of itself and the world around it. While Yerba Buena Island is quickly becoming a modern San Francisco neighborhood, Residents can still find pieces of its untouched history locked across its 72 acres of open space, including a cluster of original Coast Guard houses and the 25-foot octagonal Yerba Buena Lighthouse tower, which is still operational today.

“We’re students of history and the city. There’s a level of composition, or a classical clarity, of how we design. The cultural and celebratory history of the World’s Fair exhibition here in 1939 and the rich Americana history of the Navy being stationed here starting in the early 1940s are great pieces of the story.”

a dramatic new neighborhood
Today, Yerba Buena Island and adjacent Treasure Island are embarking on the vision to reimagine themselves as the first LEED Platinum neighborhoods. While Treasure Island will one day become a skylinealtering portfolio of Residences as well as a shopping and dining microcosm in its own right, The Flats and The Row Homes on Yerba Buena Island offer more of what you seek in San Francisco living. Experience more connection to nature, more room to roam, and more community. A 10-minute ferry ride, or short drive along the Bay Bridge from downtown San Francisco, provides convenient connections to explore parks or Clipper Cove Beach, and places to steal away from the energy of the city to discover something fresh and new while remaining deeply connected to all the city affords.

On Yerba Buena Island, days are full, and evenings satisfy the quest for new experiences. Imagine a daybreak swim in Clipper Cove, a Benedict brunch with mimosas at Aracely Cafe or Mersea, and a scenic stroll to the island’s highest point to see Hiroshi Sugimoto’s pinnacle work, the 69-foot Point of Infinity sculpture.
Here, it is easy to toast over an afternoon pint at Woods Island Club, Gold Bar Distillery, or sample a wine tasting at Treasure Island Wines before taking the ferry to peruse the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market for seasonal ingredients to prepare dinner together at home. For nights of ease, make reservations at any of San Francisco’s coveted restaurants, and cap the night viewing an endless sparkle on the Bay from the comforts of your private terrace.
a new way of life in san francisco

“Life on Yerba Buena Island is more than just serene island living. It is an invitation to reconsider not only where you live, but how you live. It is a transformative experience that shapes your life and your future.”

Living on Yerba Buena Island, you have a unique view of San Francisco. Set apart from the vibrancy and energy of the city, you can see it from a new perspective. There’s a quietness to it from afar. You see it from the Bay, connected to it by the outstretched lights of the Bay Bridge. The fog clears on the island and everything comes into view: iconic Alcatraz, boats gliding past the Presidio and under the Golden Gate Bridge, the verdant Angel Island, and the hues of the sunset shining warmly over the East Bay hills… looking in any direction, there’s a story unfolding.

“The intention is that, when complete, The Flats and The Row Homes will feel like a European village looking down at the lights of the new marina and town. We designed the Residences with lifestyle in mind, not just style of architecture.”

With a setting such as this, the island, its natural curves, topography, and views were the defining forces of every design decision. San Francisco-based Hart Howerton understands this all too well, bringing a passion for resource conservation and intentional design into every element of The Flats’ and The Row Homes’ architecture. Hart Howerton is renowned for its work on everything from East Hampton estates to historic villas in Rome, and iconic resort villages like Palmetto Bluff and Yellowstone Club to wineries in California. Under the guidance of partner Tim Slattery, these buildings were crafted with the Bay as an inspiring backdrop.
Each home is designed with the flow of life in mind. Gracious spaces that allow for working from home, expansive bedrooms, spaces for multi-generational living, and outdoor areas for those who love to entertain are all part of the grand design intention.

“Yerba Buena Island is really about the island, not the architecture. We don’t want it to compete with a natural setting as stunning as the island’s. We want the design to celebrate the island and all of its natural wonders.”
tim slattery partner, hart howerton

To bring the vision of Yerba Buena Island to life for The Flats and The Row Homes, we partnered with a globally recognized New York City–based design boutique, Meyer Davis, who specializes in residential and hospitality environments as well as private homes. After two decades of hard work and passion, Meyer Davis has become a definitive fixture in the design world with prestigious accolades including a James Beard Award and numerous Interior Design Best of Year Awards. Drawing on the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, Meyer Davis crafted a design language through a fresh, contemporary lens.
Each Residence was designed to embody a redefined and relaxed sense of luxury and embrace a perfectly balanced harmony between the natural and the man-made. Warm, natural materials juxtaposed with high-level finishes create unexpected drama while a seductively sophisticated and inviting palette, from the wood tones to the neutral walls, serves as a blank canvas for the owner.

point of infinity
Designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto
Crowning Yerba Buena Island’s hilltop park, Residents will discover the skyline-altering 69-foot steel sculpture, “Point of Infinity,” by the renowned Hiroshi Sugimoto. From the monument’s 23-foot base, it acts as a sundial and appears as though it reaches up to skies above. Visible from the Embarcadero, Sugimoto’s inspiring piece is his first major work in the United States. Standing within its presence, Residents can revel in unobstructed views in every direction.
With a diverse range of creative pursuits spanning several decades, Sugimoto has established an esteemed reputation across various fields such as sculpture, photography, garden design, calligraphy, theater production, and architecture. Notably, his artistic endeavors have been featured in prestigious collections including San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

“My task, I feel, is to delve into humanity’s past memories and to revisit the actual place where human consciousness was born. Its origins are shut away in the primordial darkness of eternity. Humanity’s destination, meanwhile, seems to extend into the future as far as infinity. I, therefore, felt that the challenge I had been given by the place was of a hyperbolic curve that would suggest both infinity and eternity: two converging curved lines, getting closer and closer but never meeting.”
