Smokey came into my life on 15th. March 2019. I was asked if I could foster him as he had Stage 4 Kidney Disease.

After meeting him with Grace, my other Greyhound, I agreed and he came home with me.

I had previous experience of Kidney disease as my previous greyhound Milly developed it in her later life.

On 26th July 2019 I decided to adopt him. Smokey and Grace got on well with each other and used to chase each other around the local park. He was very lively for his condition, but later he became more tired and slept most of the time, although he knew when mealtimes were and would suddenly appear. He sometimes got a piece of chicken as a treat. He still enjoyed his walks but didn’t run around as much.

Then on the week commencing Sunday 14th March 2021 he became very lethargic and off his food. I managed to get him to the vet on the 17th and they put him on fluids and kept him in to do tests. All seemed to be going well until I got a call on Thursday 18th to say he was not responding to the treatment and his bloods had got worse. They didn’t think he would recover and at 6 pm. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge whilst I was fussing him.

He is sadly missed by me (Robert Morphy) & Grace.
