Aprehensión de datos como material de proyecto: El sitio está ubicado al lado de un pequeño puente de acero y frente y por encima de unas vías de tren. Se trata de un barrio de escala de edificaciones medianas y de considerable actividad comercial y residencial. Considerando cuán entrelazadas están es evidente el déficit de espacio público que hay y la oportunidad que representa un edificio ahí. El proyecto es un centro cultural. De antemano, nos fue dado una serie de requisitos programáticos. Entre ellos, una limitación en el uso de la superficie cubierta como espacio público y exterior. Esto nos dirigió a concebir desde el comienzo un edificio que disipe los límites entre interior y exterior así como lo público y lo privado. La continuidad espacial tramada desde el sistema estructura: Preguntándonos por el modo de transformar los datos del contexto en material para pensar el proyecto, nos preocupamos por el modo que determina la herencia industrial en una obra de esta escala y espacios. En un sentido conceptual, este problema nos llevó a aprovechar la posibilidad en los sistemas estructuras industriales para articular grandes espacios. La estructura consiste de un sistema de losas, columnas y vigas acomodadas en distintos niveles al rededor de un gran vació. Cada nivel sería conectado con el siguiente por medio de rampas. Al nivel de la calle, se arrima a la medianera todos espacios más confinados para dejar la superficie restante como una continuación del espacio de calle. Las salas de exhibición serían acomodadas en un paseo ininterrumpido que terminaría en una terraza para exhibiciones exteriores.

Apprehending data into material for the project: The site is located next to a small steel bridge and in front and above the rails of a train. This neighborhood has a medium edification scale with a considerable comercial and residential activity. Considering how intermingled they are, the deficit in public space comes as evident as the oportunity embodied in building in a scale like this.

The project is a centre for the diffusion of cultural activities. Beforehand, we were given a set of programatic requirements. Among them a limitation in the proportion of the site’s surface to be used as public and exterior space. This lead us, from the start, to the conception of a building that could dissipate the limit between exterior and interior as well as the public and private.

Assuming how would we transform the data gathered from the context into material we could work on, worried about how could the industrial heritage play in a building of this scale and spaces. In a conceptual sense, this problem lead us to take advantage of the posibility of industrial structural systems to articulate great spaces. The structure consists of a system of slabs, columns and beams arranged at different levels around a great void. Each level is then linked to the next one through ramps. The totality of the structure would then be wrapped up in a Corten Steel substructure. At the level of the street, the project would push to the boundary wall all the services of the building and the auditorium to leave the remaining surface as a continuum of the street. The exhibition halls would be arranged in an circular promenade that ends in a terrace for exterior exhibitions.
