Taller Integral de Arquitectura 4 Caminos que se bifurcan y patios en el espacio público Proyecto individual El proyecto es en Rosario, próximo al límite donde la ciudad se separa de la costa del Paraná. Este sitio exhibe la particular complejidad que resulta del encuentro de la geometría irregular del río con la regularidad de la trama. Esta complejidad es fielmente capturada en el pliegue de las fachadas y en la interrupción de las perspectivas de sus calles. Más aún, y por debajo de esto, hay lo que parece una voluntad tácita de la ciudad por manifestarse en un lenguaje pétreo a través del ladrillo, rocas de ríos, adoquines, concreto y la rugosidad de su propia geografía. Las primeras aproximaciones al proyecto fueron condicionadas por su ubicación. Está en la esquina vaciada de una manzana que mira al río. En una primera instancia se buscó completar el tejido y a abarcar toda su superficie. Desde el inicio fue pensado también la aproximación desde la calle y el recorrido del interior como un recorrido en continuidad. De esta voluntad, surgen los patios como elementos de transición entre el espacio público y el interior del edificio. Estos vacíos fueron dimensionados en continuación con la escala de la vereda mientras que su forma fue esculpida siguiendo la geometría del espacio que se pliega por dentro del tejido de la ciudad. Los suaves desniveles de la parcela también invitan a usar el suelo a modo de pliegue para trabajar esta aproximación hasta el interior de la biblioteca. La biblioteca se expresa al exterior como una masa cerrada en ladrillos. Acá los muros exteriores actúan como una membrana que enceguece el interior. Aunque la luz entra por ranuras originadas en la traba del ladrillo, se introduce principalmente por vaciados en la cubierta y también por vacíos que surgen en el encuentro incompleto entre fragmentos de la envolvente. El programa se resuelve ubicando la biblioteca (es decir, salas de lectura y estanterías) en un segundo piso. Su acceso se concentra en un punto debajo de la tira que conecta a los dos patios. La elevación de este programa permite mejores vistas del río y la ciudad desde todas las salas de lectura. Un café, un auditorio, la administración y servicios se encuentran en la planta baja junto a pequeño anfiteatro en uno de los patios.

Taller Integral de Arquitectura 4 Bifurcating roads and patios in the public space Individual project The project was located in Rosario next to the limit where the city is separated from the Para- na's basin. This site exhibited the particular spacial complexity that results from the encounter of the irregular geometry of the river with the regularity of the city's fabric. This complexity is clearly caught in the folding of façades and in the interruption of the perspective of the streets. Furthermore, underneath this there's what seams to be a tacit will of the city to manifest itself through river stones, bricks, concrete and its own geographical roughness.

The first approaches to the project were conditioned by its site. Its located in the empty corner of a block facing a park and the river. There was an interest to complete the fabric and occupy the whole surface of the lot. From the beginning, there was also an intention to think of make a continuum of the way it is approached the building from the street and the way the interior is walked through. In this line, the patios come along as elements of transition from the realm of the public space and the interior of the building. These voids were sized in continuation of the scale of the sidewalk and shaped in continuation of the geometry of the space that folds through the fabric of the city. Gentle slopes in the terrain also invite the project to make use of the floor as a folding element that configures a way of approaching the interior.

The library is expressed to the exterior as a heavy mass enclosed in bricks. Here, exterior walls act as a membrane that blinds the interior. Although light enters through small gaps originated in the disposition of the blocks, it is introduced principally through openings in the slabs and through openings in walls generated from the incomplete enclosing of the folded membrane. The program is solved placing all the reading halls and bookshelves in a second floor. It can be accessed only from the stairs underneath a strip that divides the two patios. Elevating this part of the program also allows better sights of the river and the city from the reading rooms. A café, an auditorium, the administration and services are left at the ground level with a small amphitheater in one patio of the patios.
