Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa July 2018

With June being our 8th Anniversary here at TRMI, and celebrating that as well as our receiving of the National Coalition of Motorcyclist Silver Spoke Award, we have been feeling pretty damn good around here. We celebrated by having a staff Christmas party in June, along with our Anniversary party. We decided to do a Christmas party during this time of year so that we could actually ride with our staff. That would be a tall feat for a December or January timeframe party. It worked out pretty well despite the fact that not everyone could make it, and we missed them greatly, but we did have some fun. We decided to go for a ride, visit a few good sponsors of the magazine, and then come back to the Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa World Headquarters and head out to the range. The TRMI World Headquarters is also the Thunder Guns World Headquarters, and we wanted to share another love and freedom with our staff, so we shot the hell out of some paper and clay targets. Nothing like sharing in riding and burning gun powder to solidify the camaraderie of a crew! After range time, we came back and grilled some burgers and brats, and had a few cold beverages, and told a lot of stories and shared a lot of laughs. End result was a great day together for the Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa staff, and this was the least that we could do for every one of them that takes time out of their lives to help make this thing work. This is the 98th issue published under our ownership, and that is a great feat and could not be done without the wonderful staff. Thanks tons to the staff for helping to keep this thing going.

about how we live our lives. I feel that the past year has been good, and the spark of patriotism is coming back in this land that we call home. Exercise those freedoms we have, and do everything in your power to make sure that freedom prevails in the sometimes tumultuous times that we live in. Take a moment during the Independence Day celebrations to remember those that have fought and are fighting for our freedom. All things come with a cost, and to some, they have paid the ultimate price, so don’t let that all be for nothing by handing away any of our wonderful freedoms. This seems to be the time of year that the number of motorcycle crashes increase greatly. It always seems that August is highest, with July and September being about tied for second of deadliest months for motorcycle riders. Some reasons are fairly obvious, simply due to more motorcycles, more miles on those motorcycles, and more cars on the road. All of those together make it more dangerous. We would like to see all of you enjoy the ride and return home afterwards so make sure your rides are safe and road worthy. On top of that, ride straight, ride safe, ride defensively, and live to ride another day. One last note for this month, we have our third out of four months for the Tall Corn Run for the month of July. There are 15 new spots to check out this month, so be sure to Check In at as many spots as you can. This is also the first month that we get to list the monthly winners for the May Tall Corn Run. Look on the TCR pages for your number, and if listed, stop back at the spot you won to collect your prize. If you need a card or have to get a replacement card, stop in at any of the spots listed with an “R” and register. Get some more riding, have some more fun, and do so safely!

Many of the aforementioned activities could not have occurred without the level of independence that we have here in the good old U.S.A. It seemed fitting to bring that to everyone’s attention that just the simple day’s activities at our anniversary party could not have happened without the freedom to do as we want. We exercised a few of our Amendments, and continue to do that as much as possible. Vernon We have the choice to go where we want, to do what we want, to eat and drink what we want, and to make choices

On the Cover This month’s cover features a 1947 Indian Chief bobber owned by Roar into Harlan’s own Mike Wohlhutter. The only thing hotter than the bike that day was Lyric, the brunette beauty that stopped traffic to strike a pose next to it. Check out this bobber and all the other old iron you can handle at the July Roar into Harlan Bike Nite on the Square… July is antique bike nite, you won’t want to miss it! 4 - TRMI JULY 2018
