Wordfromth Director

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our July edition of our RAWR of the Jungle newsletter!

I am thrilled to share with you some exciting news from our Toowoomba office, we are pleased to announce that our Toowoomba office is expanding and will be taking on some extra office space at our existing address. This expansion will allow us to better serve our community and continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we support.

Additionally, our RAWR Store is starting to gain momentum, with more members of the Warwick community purchasing items and supporting our cause. Thank you for your continued support as we grow and strive to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

A huge thanks to our dedicated support workers who have been working tirelessly to provide exceptional care and assistance to our clients, and their hard work is exceptional.

Stay warm wherever you are! Dave

TAHSIN TAHSIN

My role: Support & Cultural Coordinator

Time at RAWR: October 2020

Background: I moved to Australia from Iraq in 2017 where I worked as a policeman. I then started at RAWR as a support worker and simultaneously spent 4 and a half years as a teacher aid. However, I recently finished teacher aiding since becoming a support & cultural coordinator for RAWR in June 2024.

Personal Qualities: I have a big heart and love to help people around me, especially those in my community and with disability. I’m also fluent in Kurdish Kurmanji, Arabic and English!

What do I love about my role: As mentioned above, I love being able to help people and having the chance to change their lives. I also love helping my community who can’t speak English and empowering them through our services. I also love being the coach and player for the RAWR soccer team.

Future Plans for my role: I hope for more people to join RAWR and receive our services. We’re growing every day, so I hope to expand our services so we can support as many people as we can.

Pictured above is Ethan, one of our participants from Toowoomba engaging in equine therapy!

Equine therapy has a number of benefits and individuals can start to develop their own body awareness, non-verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate with both directness and subtlety. Ethan’s sessions have been nothing less than wonderful and when asked what he liked about working with horses, he stated, “I feel calm when I am with the horses.”

We are so lucky to witness this beautiful experience

PPAJAMADISCO! AJAMADISCO!

What an awesome turnout for our Pajama Disco! Everyone looked fantastic in their comfy pj’s and it looked like such a fun night, filled with dancing, games and friendship! Thank you to all that organised and the SW’s that accompanied our participants this night ✨
