What does RAWR mean?

W = Willingness

The W in RAWR stands for Willingness. The team here at RAWR Support Services are willing to go that extra mile for our participants and for each of our team members. People with disabilities often encounter numerous barriers as society, knowingly or unknowingly, perpetuates a culture of doubt regarding their abilities. The pervasive notion that individuals with disabilities "can't do this or that" creates significant hurdles. Such scepticism can lead to limited opportunities for education, employment, and social engagement.

This mindset not only affects the self-esteem of individuals with disabilities but also fosters a lack of inclusivity in various aspects of life.

RAWR Support Services, the team recognizes and actively challenges these barriers, embodying a spirit of willingness to break down preconceived notions and empower participants to surpass perceived limitations. Here at RAWR we try to foster the culture of supporting each other and to have the quality of willingness to support and promote each other skills and experience.

Willingness complements the other qualities in the RAWR name – Respect, Attitude and W for willingness.

1. New Office Location in Stanthorpe: The start of the year brings a new chapter for us as we proudly announce the opening of our brand-new office in Stanthorpe. This expansion reflects our commitment to better serve our community and create a welcoming space for collaboration, innovation, and connection. 3. RAWR Warwick Workshop's Sustainable Furniture Our RAWR Workshop has been hard at work crafting beautiful furniture from recycled timber. We believe in the power of sustainability, and these handcrafted pieces are a testament to our commitment to environmental consciousness. Each creation tells a unique story, blending craftsmanship with a dedication to reducing our ecological footprint. Explore the beauty of repurposed materials and join us in championing eco-friendly living.

World Braille Day, observed annually on January 4th, commemorates the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of the tactile writing system that has transformed the lives of millions of visually impaired individuals worldwide. Louis Braille, who was himself blind, developed the Braille code at the age of 15, opening up new avenues for education, communication, and independence for people with visual disabilities.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of Braille in fostering inclusivity and accessibility. It honours the legacy of Louis Braille and highlights the ongoing need to promote and advance Braille literacy to ensure that blind and visually impaired individuals have equal opportunities for learning and engagement in various aspects of life.

World Braille Day encourages global awareness and action to break down barriers and create a more inclusive world for those with visual impairments.

MEET THE OFFICE STAFF ALICE My role: Service Provision Coordinator Time at RAWR: About 3 months now and I must say, time flies when you’re having fun.

Personal Qualities: I have many qualities but my greatest one would have to be my understanding and compassion for others

What do I love about my role: Honestly, I love everything about my job, but my favourite thing would have to be the people I get to surround myself with here within this organisation.

Future Plans for my role: My future plans would have to be visions of excelling as a team with everyone here at RAWR.

Our December disco was a Christmas party for all RAWR and NDIS participants! It was a great way to welcome the Christmas season as it was spent with contagious happiness, illuminating smiles and the wonderful gift of community.

We look forward to our discos every month so we can see these things first hand. Truly memorable moments that can’t be replaced

Christmas Christmas!

January 24th is Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day and serves as a significant reminder of the challenges faced by individuals affected by Moebius syndrome. This rare neurological condition, characterised by facial paralysis and the inability to move the eyes laterally, can also manifest in various other ways. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about Moebius syndrome, fostering understanding, and supporting those living with this condition. It provides an opportunity for communities, organisations, and individuals to come together, share information, and promote inclusivity and acceptance for those with Moebius syndrome. Through education and advocacy efforts on this day, the hope is to dispel misconceptions, encourage empathy, and create a more compassionate and supportive environment for individuals affected by this rare disorder.

RAWR Workshop

The Warwick office has had a little upgrade thanks to the amazing works of Wayne and Billy! This new piece for the cooking/coffee area is not only a fantastic addition to the main room, but also a great use of the space. The convenience of the piece’s height and storage has made our cooking groups and everyday coffee cravings so much easier to be attended to. Thanks, guys for your work!

Christmas Crafts!

RAWR Staff Christmas Party

We had our RAWR Christmas party on December 1st and it was truly a fantastic night! It was a great opportunity to mingle with everyone that contributes to the RAWR name through yummy food and even better drinks. A huge shoutout to the Warwick Lions Club for cooking and providing our delicious dinner, we are so incredibly grateful.

Lastly, a big thank you needs to go to David for not only organsing and providing the food and drinks, but also for everything he does behind the scenes that make RAWR the place that it is! He truly embodies what RAWR stands for and with a very busy 2023, he definitely led by example. All his efforts don’t go unnoticed and everyone at RAWR sincerely appreciates everything he does.

Our favourite recipe

BEEF TACOS Method Ingredients 1/4 can corn 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil 150g lean beef mince 2 tsp Taco spice mix 2 x Taco shells 1/8 cup of beans Grated Cheese Taco sauce Sour cream

1. Heat oil in frying pan over high heat. Add mince and cook, breaking up lumps with a wooden spoon, for 8 minutes or until well browned. Add corn and beans to cook. Add taco seasoning and cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until fragrant.

2. Meanwhile, heat taco shells from kit according to packet instructions.

3. Fill taco shells with beef mixture, corn, sour cream, taco sauce & cheese.

The act of hugging has been scientifically proven to release oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and happiness, making International Hug Day not only a delightful celebration but also a reminder of the emotional benefits that human touch can provide. It's a day to celebrate the universal language of affection and promote the idea that a simple hug can make a significant difference in someone's day.
