Our mission- Connecting Individuals with Opportunities

Respect Attitude Willingness Resilience

Hello and welcome to the April edition of our newsletter.

Can you believe how quickly the weeks are progressing! The days are starting to get shorter, so winter won’t be far away. I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes of congratulations on my recent promotion, I am very lucky to work with such a wonderful group of people, which certainly makes my job easier.

March was a busy month for us as we were preparing for our NDIS midterm audit, I would like to thank everyone involved in the audit for their hard work and commitment to the service, we are all certainly glad to see the audit behind us for the next 3 years.

We received amazing feedback from our participants that were interviewed as part of the audit process, the overall results from the auditor were very positive with no non-conformities.

Now the audit is out of the way, we have some big plans moving forward, make sure you subscribe to our email and follow our Facebook page to keep up with all the updates. We have some great events planned for the next couple of months, Lisa our Program Coordinator will add this information to Facebook, however you can always contact our office on 07 4600 0611 or email admin@rawrss.com.au if you would like further information on any of our services.

Well, I hope the Easter bunny is kind to you all and you all have a wonderful time over Easter whatever you decide to do, our offices will be closed on the public holidays however our team of dedicated support workers will be working to support our wonderful participants, a big thank you to the staff working on the public holidays and taking time away from your own families.

Take Care

Warwick locals with disability prepare for disasters

Being prepared for disasters is very important, something which has been proven true multiple times in recent years. It is especially important to include people with disability in the planning process and for people with disability to be empowered to make decisions about their safety and their emergency preparedness plan.

Southern Downs Regional Council, RAWR Support Services, and Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) recently teamed up to deliver a series of ‘Get Ready, Plan Ahead’ workshops in March.

The aim of the workshops was to ensure that people with disability who live in Warwick are as prepared as possible for disasters.

During the workshops, attendees were supported to create their own emergency plans that suit their support needs. The workshops use a framework called the P-CEP (Person Centred Emergency Preparedness) Framework and included several interactive activities.

QDN Peer Leaders with lived experience of disability Donna Best and Peter Tully from Brisbane facilitated the workshops. The workshops were attended by participants of RAWR Support Services, their support workers, and other community members with disability. Participant engagement and interaction was high throughout the workshops with positive feedback from a number of support workers and participants who attended. These workshops are being delivered as part of the Building Inclusive Disaster Resilient Communities project.

Exercise physiology: We all know exercise is important for our health, but it is important to exercise right for who you are. This is where an accredited exercise physiologist can help.

Exercise physiologists are allied health professionals who prescribe exercise to help people with injuries, persisting pain, chronic disease, depression & weight management.

Remedial Massage: Muscle overuse, & incorrect posture, can build tension in our muscles. Massage can identify inconsistencies, fibrous areas, knots, inflammation, spasm, & relieve tension & free nerve pathways that may otherwise be tethered.
