SURF LIFE SAVING Beach Safety

Pittwater RSL is proud to support surf lifesaving across the Northern Beaches, sponsoring the Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) programs at Warriewood, Mona Vale, North Narrabeen, and South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Clubs. As part of this commitment, Pittwater RSL's sponsorship has helped Warriewood SLSC deliver two fully rescue-ready IRBs just in time for the new season. Named in honour of club legends Neil ‘Dolly’ Dyer and Rick Harris, these boats will play a crucial role in keeping both local beachgoers and visitors safe in the water.

We all enjoy a day at the beach and as the weather is now getting warmer it is time to get out the cozzies and dig out those boogie boards from the back of the garage. Whilst it is great to see the red and yellow flags back up on the beach, here are some great tips to make sure that you have fun at the beach and go home safely!

ALWAYS SWIM BETWEEN THE RED & YELLOW FLAGS.

Lifesavers place the flags where it is safe to swim, and they will be observing this area and will notice if you need help.

LOOK FOR BEACH SAFETY SIGNS.

Lifesavers place signs on the beach to let you know of any dangers that may be present –make sure you look for these signs before you go into the water. It is also important that you are aware of your own limitations.

NEVER SWIM ALONE.

Always swim with a friend or an adult and never go into the water by yourself. If you are out alone, always make sure to swim between the red and yellow flags where the Lifesavers can see you and make sure you tell someone where you are going before you leave home and before you enter the water.

IF YOU GET INTO TROUBLE IN THE WATER, STAY CALM AND RAISE YOUR ARM.

Getting caught out in the ocean where you cannot touch the bottom can be scary but remember to stay calm and raise your arm for help. Try to float and if you feel you are being pulled away from the shore avoid trying to swim against the current – this will only make you tired and unable to stay afloat.

We are extremely fortunate that a majority of our beaches are patrolled. Across NSW more than 20,000 surf lifesavers dedicate their time each year during the peak season to make sure beach goers can enjoy the surf in safety at patrolled beaches.

Every single patrol member is trained to the highest possible standard and dedicates countless hours each weekend during the season protecting patrolled beaches along the NSW coast line.

PITTWATER RSL Ladies Bowls

We at the bowls club are always looking to attract new members to our wonderful sport. Did you know that most of the Australian team are under 40 years old, many in their 20s?

Most of these players started bowls at a very young age, many of them accompanying their grandparents and being encouraged to join in.

We looked at this and decided it would be a great way to encourage younger players, all the while telling them of the many fantastic opportunities that are available to young bowlers.

This is our second “Bring the Grandkids Day”. (Not all were grandkids – some family friends and neighbours).

We have had over 40 participants over the 2 events.

All the kids had a great morning, learning new skills and techniques and enjoying the friendly competition. Plus of course, the morning tea and snacks!

We are hoping to continue these events each school holidays.

We had lots of willing helpers attend and our club coach Greg, has also been giving some further lessons to some of the keen young bowlers.

Pittwater RSL Announces Q3 Winners of the Pittwater Community Excellence Program

October 2024 – Pittwater RSL is proud to announce the recipients of the Quarter Three ‘Pittwater Community Excellence Award,’ celebrating the exceptional contributions of volunteers within our local grassroots clubs. This award program is dedicated to recognising the tireless efforts of individuals who have gone above and beyond to support and strengthen their communities, creating meaningful connections and making a real impact.

Each of this quarter’s winners has shown extraordinary commitment to their clubs, making a significant difference through their volunteer work. The Q3 winners are: “These volunteers are the heart and soul of our local clubs. They don’t just keep things running – they bring people together and make a real difference. Whether it’s managing the behind-the-scenes work or being the friendly face at weekend

games, their dedication is what keeps our community strong. We’re proud to celebrate them because, honestly, our clubs wouldn’t be the same without them. They give so much, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do.”
