Natureofwork

: The Research Associate (RA) will be primarily stationed at RRCAT, Indore to work at the Small and Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (SWAXS) beamline (BL-18). The primary responsibility of the RA will be to participate in the ongoing augmentation project of thestate-of-the-artbeamlinefacility for enhancing its experimental capabilities and to carry out cutting-edge applied and basic research in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The RA will also contribute towards the regular operation and maintenance of the beamline including user support towards experiments and data analysis. Occasionally, the RA may have to visit BARC, Mumbaiforexperimentsandanalysis.

: The neutron beamlines at BARC, Mumbai are supported with indigenously developed durable neutron detectors, such as neutron beam monitor, proportional counters and onedimensional and two-dimensional position sensitive detectors (PSD),whicharetailor-madeforthebeamsizeandintensity. These instruments are periodically upgraded with gain in detection efficiency, solid angle coverage and spatial resolution.Detectordesignsaresupportedwithhighprecision fabrication and analytical calculations on electrostatics and gas kinetics. The RA would be working on mechanical hardware design, precision assembly of detectors, vacuum andgasfillingsystems,testingofneutrondetectors,handling electronics equipment for measurement of radiation, development of radiation detectors including procurement of materials.TheRAshouldbereadytoworkinradiationfields.

: Underthesub-project “quantummagnets”, we aim toobtain microscopic information about the structure and dynamics of unexploredquantumphasesofelectronsinnovelcompounds based on polycrystalline and single crystal samples. In this project,theRAwouldbestudyinglowdimensionalfrustrated spin systems, magnetic organic compounds, metal–organic hybrid magnets, and magnetic oxide multilayers. A high magnetic field and low temperature laboratory along with a magnetic multilayer growth facility will also be set up under thisproject.
