ADVERTISEMENT FOR POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (PDRF) IISER Berhampur is a premier autonomous Institution of National Importance established by Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India for promoting high quality Science Education and Research.

IISER Berhampur invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Biological Chemistry and Nanomedicine Lab in the Department of Chemical Sciences.

Candidates who have submitted the thesis and awaiting the award of degree may also apply. It is expected and desirable that the candidate has strong interpersonal skills to engage in team-based research and collaboration.

This position is open for candidates with 0-5 years of experience after obtaining a Ph.D. degree in one of the specific research areas as given below. A suitable candidate from any of these two areas will be recommended for final selection. Outstanding candidates from other research areas of Chemical and Biological sciences may also be considered depending upon the research requirement.

Specific Research Expertise from Biological Sciences Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or related area and have experience and publications in the field of molecular and cancer biology.

Experience in conducting various molecular biology experiments (DNA/RNA work, PCR, RTPCR, western blot) and cell culture-based assay.

Experience in molecular modeling, computational drug discovery, and in vivo mouse tumour models for cancer is desirable.

Or Specific Research Expertise from Chemical Sciences Ph.D. degree in Chemical Sciences or related area and have a strong foundation in the principles and methods of synthetic organic, medicinal, and bio-inorganic chemistry.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of current synthetic organic chemistry approaches and well versed with modern purification techniques, and can troubleshoot and optimize synthetic methods with limited supervision.

The ability to understand and analyze the biological data and use this information to design better compounds is desirable.

Remarks For candidates who submitted thesis but PhD degree is awaited ----

* As per the prevailing rates applicable to the city of Berhampur on basic emoluments. # Candidate has to produce a letter from competent authority stating that the thesis has been submitted and the final viva/defense is pending.

The appointees will be called as Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) and the initial award will be for 1 year which can be extended for maximum of 3 years. The extension after each year will be after thorough review of the candidate’s performance. Those who do not have Ph.D. degree will be called as Research Associate (RA).

Age: The upper age limit is preferably less than 35 years as on the date of application.

Accommodation: Suitable residential accommodation as per the Institute rules shall be provided on the campus on joining the Institute (subject to availability). In case of non-availability of residential accommodation, HRA as per GoI rules shall be admissible.

Leave Rules: Each postdoctoral fellow will be entitled for 28 days of Annual Leave in a calendar year.

He/she will be entitled for on duty leave for attending conferences/workshop/seminars/academic visits as per institute rules. Leave on medical grounds can be granted for a maximum period of 15 days in a year on production of a valid medical certificate.

Medical Facilities: Only OPD medical consultation will be provided to the postdoctoral fellows as per the Institute norms. However, candidates joining the Institute should have medical insurance of at least One lakh for the period of their stay at the Institute.

Notes: • These fellowships are open for foreign nationals and overseas citizens of India too.

• The minimum requirement of qualifications and/or experience may be relaxed in case of exceptionally outstanding candidates in certain areas.

• A mere fulfilment of required minimum qualifications and experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for discussion.

• Reservation will be as per Govt. of India norms.

• The foreign residents and overseas citizens of India can attend the interview via Skype.

• Campus facilities for postdoctoral fellows will be the same as those of UG and PG students.

• The interviews for the postdoctoral fellows shall be conducted periodically in a calendar year.
