Applications are invited from eligible candidates, for a post of “Senior Research Fellow” (SRF) on contract basis for the SATYAM - DST funded project entitled “Effect of Yoga and Meditation on Neurogenesis: Morphological and electrophysiological evaluation of the human hippocampus obtained during epilepsy surgery" – under the guidance of DR. Malla Bhaskara Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Neurosurgery & Principal Investigator.

Essential Qualification :

M.Sc OR M.Tech OR M.Phil degree in any field of science/life science/physics/biophysics/ chemistry/neuroscience with 1 year experience in patch clamp electrophysiology and fluorescence imaging (support document required with a strong recommendation from employer/mentor).

Additional Experience:

Candidates with some experience of molecular biology are encouraged to apply.

Nature of Work:

The project covers extensive electrophysiology (patch-clamp) and immunohistochemistry in human hippocampal slices (acute). The project is in collaboration with Dr. Bhupesh Mehta, Assistant Professor, Department of Biophysics and with DR. Anita Mahadevan, Professor, Department of Neuropathology.

Maximum Age Limit :

35 years

Emoluments :

Rs.28,000/- + 30% HRA per month.

Duration of the Project :

2 years (Initial appointment will be made for a period of one year and will be extended further depending upon the performance of the candidate).

Essential Qualification :

BMLT or DMLT with 3 years’ experience in histopathology.

Additional Experience:

Experience in processing and sectioning of histological material, and immunohistochemistry.

Desirable:

Nature of Work:

1) Experience in handling neural tissues 2) Knowledge of Quality control and quality assurance in histopathology 3) Basic knowledge of computers and data entry 1) Processing of histological material, sectioning, staining and immunohistochemistry 2) Perform immunoblots/ELISA in serum samples ensuring quality control 3) Specimen collection, identification, storage and retrieval of tissues as advised by the PI with accurate data entry of cases.

4) Maintenance of log books and accounts, preparation of indents.

5) Follow waste disposal procedures, in co-ordination with other staff.

6) Ensure maintenance of equipment and keep the PI informed regarding the state of functioning periodically and ensure prompt repair work as and when essential.

7) Any other work assigned by the PI.

Additional Experience:

Experience working in laboratory attached to hospital/ medical Institution.

Desirable:

1) Experience in handling human tissues 2) Knowledge of waste disposal practices

Nature of Work:

1. Collection and transport of specimens from operation theatre 2. Retrieval of specimens from freezers following stringently the instructions and quality control.

3. Separation and aliquoting of the tissue/ fluids, assist in labeling, storage and assist in data entry.

4. Stringent maintenance of Freezer log & bring to attention of the incharge any deviation in temperature so that repair work can be taken up immediately.

5. Waste disposal as per the guidelines and ensure lifting of the material by the waste disposal staff.

6. Assist in procurement and transport of the stationery/computer related material/glass-plastic ware/chemicals and transport to Brain Bank.

7. Delivery of the material to the lab, keeping the safety and scientific requirements as advised by the officer in charge.

8. Maintenance of equipment/instruments and bring to the attention of officer in charge any disposal/replacement needed in co-ordination with Jr. Technician.

9. Maintenance of cleanliness of the Brain Bank 10. Any other job assigned by the officer in charge.
