ABOUT THE INSTITUTION Rajalakshmi Engineering College was established in the year 1997 under the aegis of Rajalakshmi Educational Trust, whose members have consummate experience in the fields of Education and Industry. The vision of the college is to be an institution of excellence in Engineering, Technology and Management Education and Research; and to provide competent and ethical professionals with a concern for the society. The College presently offers fourteen Under Graduate and nine Post Graduate programmes, while nine of our Departments are recognised as Research Centres of Anna University to conduct Ph.D.programmes. Ever since its inception in the year 1997, the Institution has taken giant strides towards differentiating itself, by focusing on pursuit of Innovation and Research by its faculty and students. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has re-accredited the college with an 'A' grade

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2002 with an understanding that there was an opportunity to intervene and enhance the quality of life by responding to society’s challenges of affordable healthcare choice, food security, climate change and energy shortages among others. Hence, the Department adopted a mission to imbue students with a unique combination of skills in a wide range of disciplines in biotechnology. The Department with its research equipments in

state-of-the-art laboratories, constantly strives to fulfil the aspirations of its students. Department offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD in Biotechnology to provide a platform for the students to elevate standards. The Department also has its own society for Biotechnologists, where various technical events are organised; Journal Club, where students are trained to improve their research skills; publishes Biosnippets, a monthly newsletter & magazine, which ENLIGHTENS the students regarding the trends in the field of biotechnology. Workshops are organised regularly to bridge the gap between academia and the industry.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE India is an agricultural economy. In addition to being a key contributor to

exports and GDP, it is also a huge market for manufacturing and service sectors of the economy. Hence there is a compelling need for raising agricultural productivity, supporting small scale farmers & women and sustainability in agriculture. The key to achieving these goals is by making agriculture profitable, guaranteeing access to modern technology, without compromising on the quality of the produce, while preserving soil quality and without adversely impacting the environment.

Vidhai wishes to provide a platform, where academicians, industrialists, agricultural scientists and students from all over the country, come together to deliberate modern biotechnological solutions to agriculture like plant genome and GM crops, integrated farming, organic farming, biofertilizers, soil management, hydroponics, agroproducts, waste-towealth principles, storage technology and many more.
