Position – Summary & Responsibilities: The Program Officer will serve in the Program Management Unit chartered under the DBT, BIRAC and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partnership in Grand ChallengesIndia.

ReportingtoSr.Manager/Manager,theProgramOfficerwillhavetheopportunitytointeractandwork withthoughtleadersandleadingscientistsbothinIndiaandinternationally;contributestrategicthinking and forward-looking analysis in relevant areas; communicate progress and setbacks against strategic goals;andimportantlycreateandmanagegrants/contractsaspartofateam.

Responsibilities of the position include:

• To shape and execute scientific grants and research contracts leading to social innovations under public health for the underserved populationsinIndiaandmoregenerallyinservice ofthedevelopingworld.

• Coordination and timely execution of technical andfinancialmanagementofallaspectsofongoing andnewGrandChallengesProgramsandprojects inthethemeswithinpublichealth.

• Manage substantial portfolio of complexgrants requiring high-level grant management skills, including applying and evaluating milestonebasedperformanceobjectives;

• Projectappraisalandtechnicalduediligence.Make detailed technical reports, analyze data and interpret results. Technical monitoring andgrant managementofassignedprojects/scheme

• Synthesize and document results from grantsand contracts including preparing briefings and portfolioreviewstoleadership;

• Inaddition to technical and operationalexpertise, the Program Officer must also bring passion, humility, and critical thinking for the unique problems and the questions relevant to GCI’s mission.

• Experience in project monitoring and evaluation, includingdevelopmentofconceptualframeworks, management of monitoring systems, implementation and - supervision of evaluations andreportingofevaluationfindings.

Essential Qualifications:

BTech/M.Sc.inLifeSciences/Biotechnology/ Pharma/Agri/PlantScience/Microbiology// Biochemistry/ Environmental Sciences/ Nutrition/PublicHealth/MBBS.

Desirable Qualification:

PhDinLifeSciences/Biotechnology/Pharma/ Agri/ Plant Science/ Microbiology/ / Biochemistry/ Environmental Sciences/ Nutrition/ Public Health/ Post-graduation in medicalscienceswillalsobeconsidered.

Experience:Minimum2yearsofexperiencein academic,industryorsimilarposition.

Summary & Responsibilities: TheSeniorManager(SM)willserveintheProgramManagementUnit(PMU) fortheGrandChallengesIndia(GCI)atBIRAC.ReportingtotheMissionDirector,PMUtheSeniorManagerwill gettheopportunitytodesign,andexecutetheprogramofthepartnership.Thepositionisfacilitatoryinnature andwillworktoensurethatthefellowshipprogramasawholeandgrantapplicationsarereviewed,processed, andawardedatparwithinternationalstandards.

Key Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

• Will be responsible for the design, execution and implementation of Fellowship programs of the partnership.

• Will be responsible for the grant management of the Fellowships,bothtechnicallyandfinancially.

Essential Qualifications:

Ph.D./MD in Life Sciences/Biotechnology/ Pharma/ Public Health/ Nutrition /Biological Sciences/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry from recognizedinstitute.

Essential areas of experience and duration: Minimum 3 years of experience in a Senior position in an organization/funding agency and have experience in similar position or translationalandproductdevelopmentactivities or related area of research in industry or academicresearchinstitute.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience: Experience in working with funding agency will bepreferred.

Job Description: The Senior Program Officer will serve in the Program Management Unit (PMU) for the GrandChallengesIndia(GCI)atBIRAC.ReportingtotheMissionDirector,PMUthe SeniorProgramOfficer willgetanopportunitytodesignandexecutetheprogrammesunderthepurviewofGrandChallengesIndia (GCI)focussingonPublicHealth,MaternalChildHealth,Nutrition,InfectiousDiseases,MedicalTechnologies andotherrelatedprioritiesofnationalinterest.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limitedto:

• Will be responsible for execution and implementation of the GCI & related programs which includes monitoring the progress of the projects both technically and financially, working closely with the Scientific and Technical Advisory groups for project review and supervising grant managementactivities.

• Toshapeandexecutescientificgrantsandresearch contracts leading to social innovations in healthrelated areas, Maternal Child Health, Nutrition, Infectiousdiseases,MedicalTechnologiesetc;

• Provide clinical inputs on programs related to maternal/child health, immunization, nutrition, medical technologies, and coordination and technicalmanagementofallaspectsofanongoing GrandChallengesPrograms;

• Manage specific investments, and will also be an important liaison to DBT and BMGF a substantial portfolio of complex grants requiring high-level grant management skills, including applying and evaluating milestone-based performance objectives;

• Responsible for timely execution of programmes andfinancialmanagementofgrant;

• Serveasapartnerandresourcepersontograntees tofacilitateaccomplishmentofstrategicobjectives;

Essential Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition/ Public Health/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/Biotechnology.

Desirable Qualifications: Ph.D in Life Science/ Biotechnology/Pharma/ Agri/ plant Science/ M.Techfromarecognizedinstitute

Experience:Minimum4yearsofexperienceinthe area of public health and nutrition in any government setting/ institute/ industry. Experience in working in funding agency will be preferred.
