The Department of Science and Technology has revised the fellowships of Women Scientist Scheme under KIRAN as mentioned below: *The HRA has been included in fellowships (WOS-A & WOS-B) based on latest OM of DST No. SR/S9/Z-08/2018 2. The revised norms become effective from 01 April 2019. However, for WOS-C programme it is effective for 11th batch starting from 2019-20.

3. The grantee institutions are advised to pay the arrears, on account of revision, if any, to the Principal Investigators (Pl).

4. Other terms & conditions remain unchanged.

5. This issue with the approval of AS&FA, DST, vide Dy.No. 23836 dated 02.07.2019.

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has launched the “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” [http://www.inspire-dst. gov.in] Program in 2008. The program, which encompasses the age group of 15-35 years aims to attract Young Indian talent for the study of science leading to careers in science.

INSPIRE contains four Components out of which the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme offers a contractual research Award to young achievers and opportunity for independent research in the near term and emerge as A prospective leader in the long run.

A) Eligibility Essential Indian citizens and people of Indian origin including NRI/PIO status with PhD (in science, Mathematics, engineering, pharmacy, agriculture and medicine related subjects) from any Recognized university in the world.

Candidates will have a minimum 60 percent (or equivalent CGPA) marks throughout his/her Academic profile beginning from the Higher Secondary examination (Class 12 onwards).

People who have submitted their PhD theses and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible. However, the award will be conveyed only after confirmation of the award of the PhD degree.

The upper age limit as on 1st Jan 2019 ought to be 32 years for considering support for a Period of five years. But for SC and ST candidates, the upper age limitation is going to be 35 years.

Publication(s) in highly reputed Journals demonstrating the research

potential of this candidate.

Candidates That Are employed in regular/contractual position within India can apply for INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award towards enhancement and improvement of their Career prospects however upon selection, the candidate will have to resign (no lien or deputation Or any type of leave would be approved ) from the current job and organization for Implementation of the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award.

Desirable Candidates That Are within the top 1 percent at the School Leaving Exam, IIT-JEE rank Holders, 1st Rank Holder either in graduation or post-graduation level university Examination (that are used presently for identifying INSPIRE Scholars at under-graduate Level and INSPIRE Fellows for doctoral degree).

C) Method of Selection The Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi, in coordination with DST, will Be implementing this INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme up to the selection of Applicants for the award of INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award.

A three-tier selection process i.e.

Discipline-based Expert Committee in the event of candidates Beneath Direct and Nomination modes/ routes which is followed by selection through Apex Level Committee and finally INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Council to select the candidates In the two modes.

Discipline-wise committees of INSA would evaluate and screen the candidates that Want to Apply under the Direct and Nomination Routes with no support from host-institutions.

The Apex Committee shall eventually select short-listed candidates for offering INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award under this Scheme and conclusion of the Apex Commit-

tee for Selecting candidates in this Scheme shall further be considered at the INSPIRE Faculty Council whose decision will be closing for the offer of INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship.

India grant-giving agencies like DST, DBT, ICMR, UGC, ICAR etc. can apply subject to the Condition that the whole tenure inclusive of CSIR fellowship won’t exceed three years.

Those Who’ve already availed or would have availed by 31st March 2020, JRF for five years or SRF for 3 years from any source shouldn’t apply. The combined tenure of JRF, if any, also SRF won’t Exceed five years. SRF will be terminated from the date of PhD viva voce or conclusion of tenure Whichever is sooner.

People That Are currently holding equal fellowship should define the reason for applying. The application is very likely to be reversed if the reason isn’t specified.

In this course, the participants will get to learn the background and the applications of molecular simulations through Schrödinger’s state-of-the-art Small Molecular Drug Discovery (SMDD) Suite.

The training course is split into 10 different sessions. Each of these sessions will have approximately 45 mins of a presentation along with a demonstration on how to create the models, run simulations, perform analysis and make predictions. All modules will end with a 15 minutes Q&A session with Schrödinger’s Scientists.

At the end of the course, we expect the participants to be familiar with the basic principles of CADD. Additionally, with the successful completion of the course, the participants will be eligible for follow-up hands-on workshops conducted periodically at different locations across India.

CALL ANNOUNCEMENT CALENDAR: The call for proposal is announced twice a year, i.e. on 1st January and 1st July. Call for proposals normally stays open for approximately 45 days.

The BIG Scheme is currently managing via 8 BIG Partners around the country who works together with the Ignition grantees (BIG Innovators) to provide mentoring, monitoring, networking and other business development related activities.

THE PURPOSE OF THE BIG SCHEME IS TO: • Foster generation of ideas with commercialisation potential • Upscale and validate proof of concept • Encourage researchers to take technology closer to market via a startup • Stimulate enterprise formation.

Included in this scheme, successful BIG Innovators receive up to INR 50 lakh (USD 70,000 approx) for research projects with commercialization potential with a duration of up to 18 months.

Who can apply? (Eligibility criteria) 1. The individual applicant should be an Indian citizen (defined in sec-

tion 14).

2. The primary applicant should be the Project Leader (as per Section 7.1 below) who meets the eligibility requirements mentioned below.

3. The applicant has to be physically incubated (see section 14) in an incubator (defined in section 14). At the time of application, the applicant needs to minimally identify his/her preferred incubator and produce a letter from the incubator of having initiated discussions on subscribing to incubation services; however, a formal acceptance from the incubator will be required before final grant approval.

4. If the applicant is formally employed (or registered as a student) with a non-profit academic or research organization, then • the applicant has to produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the head of the organization clearly indicating that the organization has policies in place to allow the applicant to accept funding support (if successful) as an individual and undertake BIG projects in an incubator (defined in section 14) or alternatively, has policies in place to allow its employees to create entrepreneurial ventures while in service or while in sabbatical leave or while in EOL. • Alternatively, the applicant needs to provide an undertaking that he/ she plans to terminate his association with the current employer and take up the project full time in the event of a grant approval. A resignation/ relieving/retirement letter will be needed as supporting document before final approval and release of the grant.

Project Duration The funding is provided over a maximum period of 18 months in instalments against agreed milestones.

Proposed project duration can range from 15 to 18 months. No request for extension shall be entertained under any circumstance.

How to Apply: • The applicant needs to submit an online application for funding by registering and logging on the BIRAC website www.birac.nic.in.

• The applicant has to select one of the mentioned BIG Partners in their online application form. The BIG Partner shall be responsible for initial eligibility checks, screening of applications, due-diligence of shortlisted applicants following the • Expert Screening Committee (ESC) meeting, signing of necessary agreements, the release of funds and project monitoring besides mentoring the grantees. The applicant is free to choose a BIG Partner as per their convenience.

• The applicant may need to be incubated in an incubator (see definition in section 14). An exemplary list of incubators is provided in Annexure A3. (Please note that BIG Partner need not be the same as the applicant’s incubator. See definitions in Section 14).

• Applicants are advised to fill-up and submit their applications early without waiting for the last date in order to avoid any last minute contingencies. The system stops accepting applications automatically at midnight of the last date of receipt of application.

• Applicants are advised to provide sufficient details in their applications to allow for an informed and fair evaluation/review. Applicants are advised to provide self-contained proposals with essential supporting materials provided as uploads.

• Requests for changes in the proposal once submitted will not be encouraged.

• Providing incorrect information intentionally is viewed adversely.

Australian Government Research Stipend Scholarship 2020

he official notification for the RMIT University – RTP Stipend Scholarship (RSS) and the RMIT Research Stipend Scholarship (RRSS) has been released. International applicants are invited to apply provided they fulfil all of the eligibility criteria.

All details pertaining to the same are posted below.

RMIT has two stipend scholarships available. These are the RTP Stipend Scholarship (RSS) and the RMIT Research Stipend Scholarship (RRSS).

RSS scholarships are funded by the Australian Government and RRSS scholarships are funded by RMIT University. When you apply for a research scholarship through one of the University’s rounds, you will automatically be considered for all the scholarships for which you are eligible.

Value and duration In 2019, the RSS and RRSS provide the following benefits to recipients: • a stipend of $31,000 per annum pro rata (full-time study). This amount is subject to indexation annually.

• International candidates in receipt of this scholarship are also awarded an RTP International Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS) or an RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS).

• all local candidates, Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia are provided with an RTP Fee Offset scholarship.

Applicants in receipt of an RTP Fee Offset scholarship are not required

to pay tuition fees for the maximum duration of their candidature.

• a relocation allowance for the cost of relocating in order to take up their postgraduate research program, up to $515 per adult and $255 per child to a maximum of $1,540 • paid sick, maternity and parenting leave (within the limits of the Scholarship Terms and Conditions).

The standard duration of a research doctoral scholarship is three years full-time. Candidates may apply for an extension of up to six months subject to satisfactory progress and school approval.

The duration of a research masters scholarship is two years full time, with no additional extension available.

The duration of an RSS or RRSS will be reduced by any periods of study undertaken towards a research degree at the same level, prior to the commencement of the RMIT research program.

Eligibility Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a competitive selection process that ranks applicants according to their academic achievement, research outputs and relevant professional experience.

Priority is given to applicants who: • have achieved a high distinction in the final two years of the qualifying program(s). At RMIT a grade of high distinction represents academic achievement of 80% or higher

• may be considered by RMIT as having an equivalent level of academic attainment, taking into account previous study, relevant work experience, research publications and other research experience • are able to take receipt of a scholarship for a minimum 12 months duration on a full-time basis (or parttime equivalent) because of prior enrolment in a graduate research program • have not already completed a graduate research program at the same or higher course level. Shoukhrat Mitalipov, a reproductive biologist at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, fears that this controversy may affect factors such as funding and regulatory approvals. Mitalipov works on repairing mutated genes in human embryos and hopes to edit out heritable diseases once a day with this approach. The US government prohibits federal funding for such experiments, still, Mitalipov and a few other US researchers have somehow managed to get other grant money for their work.
