While tracking spending does require extra effort, it pays off greatly in terms of ensuring that one is aware of their financial situation at all times Additionally, tracking spending on different items can also help individuals and organizations identify lessons to use for future budgeting and investments.
The third step in money management is generally focused on longterm plans
and investments Though many are anxious to spend their hardearned money, prudence suggests that some be set aside for the future. Investment planning should involve careful consideration of a wide range of factors, including risk management, portfolio diversification, and other preventive measures. Moreso, individuals and organizations must judge their time horizons and the types of investments they are comfortable with Though these calculations require effort, they are essential for ensuring longterm financial health.

ZAMBIA'S LOAD SHEDDING QUESTIONABLE
By: Jemimah ChunguZambia has been experiencing up to 12 hours of load shedding of electricity by the country's power utility supplier, Zambia Electricity Supply Cooperation Ltd ( Z E S C O ) , s i n c e January 2023.
The local Lusaka Times quoted Energy Minister, Peter Kapala saying the low water levels in the hydropower source, the Kariba Dam, are the cause of the load shedding. He added that the overutilization of water to sustain power generation has exacerbated the situation.
by ZESCO revealed that the power station's generating capacity has been reduced from its installed 1080 Megawatts (MW) to b e l o w 4 0 0 M W . Furthermore, the 150 MW generator outage at Maamba Colliers Limited Power Plant for r o u t i n e a n n u a l maintenance from Jan

Furthermore, this is the first time since the change of leadership in 2021 that the said maintenance has had an effect on power supply. ZESCO has the capacity to channel the resources used for the a n n u a l r o u t i n e maintenance to other power generating activities.

New Infection Hits Nigeria, Claims 25 Lives
By: Vesla Centurion KalsNi g e r i a n a u t h o r i t i e s c o n fi r m e d Friday the outbreak of a new nose and throat infection, otherwise known as Diphtheria, which has so far claimed 25 lives.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) in a p u b l i c h e a l t h advisory issued Friday morning, confirmed that not less than 25 p e o p l e h a v e reportedly died from the disease in Kano State.
The NCDC, however, noted that it had responded to "reports
of diphtheria cases in Lagos and Kano States and was monitoring the situation in Osun and Yobe States where cases are now being picked up".
While the NCDC is yet to give data on the number of infections and deaths recorded in the country, the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Aminu Tsanyawa, had on Thursday confirmed that the outbreak of Diphtheria has killed no fewer than 25 persons in the state.
The commissioner told an online newspaper that the state rapid
response team has been reactivated and indexed an action plan to check the spread of the deadly disease in the state.
However, NCDC said it's now working with state health ministries a n d p a r t n e r s t o enhance surveillance and response to the outbreak.
About Diphtheria
The NCDC explained that diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection caused by the bacterium called Corynebacterium species that affects the nose, throat and
sometimes, the skin of an individual.
It noted that people m o s t a t r i s k o f contracting diphtheria are children and adults who have not received any or a single dose of the pentavalent vaccine (a diphtheria toxoidcontaining vaccine), people who live in a crowded environment, in areas with poor s a n i t a t i o n a n d healthcare workers who a r e e x p o s e d t o suspected or confirmed cases of diphtheria Adapted from the Premium Times

CAFOLINE | Uganda Cranes stunned tenman Senegal 10 at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Wednesday to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the competition.
Captain Milton Karisa scored the lone goal to guide the Cranes to the victory on a cold and rainy night at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba at the ongoing tournament in Algeria.
Teranga Lions will rue their missed opportunities as Cheikh Sidibe fluffed a penalty before Karisa pounced to net what turned out to be the winner for Uganda.
Senegal's hopes of restoring parity were dashed in the 83rd minute when substitute Libasse Ngom was sent off for a serious foul, giving Uganda the numerical advantage to hold on to secure the win against the West African giants.
The Uganda defenders were resolute since the start of the game as the Senegalese attackers launched a series of attacks on their goal area before Karisa scored against the run of play
The Vipers forward connected to a Kenneth Semakula pass to make an impressive tapin past Senegal goalkeeper Pape Sy to send the Ugandan camp into celebrations in the 33rd minute.
The celebrations were called for after a dramatic half hour that saw Milutin Sredojevic's side survive four Senegalese attempts to score that had the Ugandans on their toes soaking in all the pressure before surging forward to score.
Senegal had started the game on a high note controlling much of the ball but the Ugandans absorbed all the pressure and when in the 21st minute, Lamine Kamara got a chance to score from a freekick, his attempt went straight into the Ugandan wall.
Sidibe stepped up to convert from six yards but his shot to the right corner was saved by Ugandan goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi who had quite a busy night.
Alionzi once again stood out when he blocked a f r e e k i c k f r o m fi v e yards out as S e n e g a l continued to w a s t e chances in front of goal.
G e o ff r e y Wasswa was at fault for a n e e d l e s s back pass to Alionzi who was forced to touch the ball with his hand f o r c i n g a yellow card from Melki a n d a n e v e n t u a l freekick so close to the goal that the U g a n d a n s were lucky n o t t o concede.
Thereafter, S e n e g a l ' s Malick Mbaye sent a brilliant p a s s f r o m t h e right to Cheikh D i o u f w h o forced Alionzi into a o n eonone battle to come off his line but his effort went off the mark despite an empty goal.
As Senegal continued to control the momentum of the game, Uganda pounced on one chance and converted through Karisa to give the Cranes the lead.
Despite conceding, Senegal continued attacking Uganda and five minutes later Cheikh
Sidibe made a quick run on the left wing but his attempt was picked up by Alionzi as Uganda continued to suck in the pressure from the Senegalese.
Six minutes into the second half, Karisa was brought down in the box and while it looked like a penalty, Melki consulted VAR and decided to wave play on.
Senegal continued to amass pressure on Uganda and eventually had 62% of the ball possession but when Libasse Ngom was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Abdu Karim Watambala, Senegal's chances of winning started to diminish despite their spirited fight until the last minute of the game.
Uganda now sits on top of Group B with four points while Senegal are second with three points. DR Congo who drew with Côte d'Ivoire earlier in the day sit second with two points from two games while the Local Elephants sit bottom of the table. All four teams still have a chance of advancing.
This is Uganda's first CHAN victory since beating Burkina Faso 21 at the 2014 edition in South Africa. The Cranes were winless at the 2016, 2018 and 2020 CHAN editions.
Earlier, there was nothing to separate DR Congo and Cote D'Ivoire at the 19 Mai 1956 S t a d i u m i n A n n a b a o n Wednesday evening, after both sides played out to a highly tactical 00 stalemate to share the spoils in their second Group B match of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship.
Both sides came into the clash desperate for a victory to keep their tournament hopes alive with DR Congo having played to a 00 draw against Uganda, while the Ivorians suffered a 10 defeat to Senegal last week.
The result sees both sides slipping in their Group B positions with DR Congo third, while Cote D'Ivoire are rooted at the bottom All four teams however can still advance to the next stage.

UV NAIL POLISH DRYERS CAUSE CANCER, NEW STUDY
By: Jemimah Chunguwords, this s t u d y demonstrates that radiation emitted by UVnail polish dryers can both damage D N A a n d permanently e n g r a v e mutations on the genomes of primary m o u s e e m b r y o n i c fibroblasts, h u m a n f o r e s k i n fibroblasts, and human e p i d e r m a l keratinocytes.
Anew study has revealed that ultraviolet (UV) nail polish dryers may be linked to an increased risk of developing cancerous diseases. These UV nail polish dryers are commonly used for pedicure and manicure around the world.
T h e N a t u r e Communications Journal recently reported a connection between these ultraviolet radiation
machines and issues of
mutation at the cellular level, which can be cancerous. Ultraviolet A light is typically emitted by UVnail polish dryers, and longterm use may increase the risk of skin
cancer However, no experimental evaluation had been conducted to determine the effect of radiation emitted by UVnail polish dryers on mammalian cells until now
The study found that
irradiation by a UVnail polish dryer causes high levels of reactive oxygen species, consistent with 8 o x o 7 , 8dihydroguanine damage and mitochondrial dysfunction. Analysis of somatic mutations r e v e a l e d a d o s edependent increase of C:G>A:T substitutions in irradiated samples with mutagenic patterns similar to mutational signatures previously attributed to reactive oxygen species. In other
The findings of this study should not be surprising, as any UV exposure, especially when repeated, can cause cancer This is why the depletion of the ozone layer, which shields us from UV rays from the Sun, is a major concern.
Despite the potential risks, nail art is a popular and lucrative business in the fashion industry. Pedicure and manicure are not only a relaxing treat, but also a stylish musthave.
