p o t e n t i a l n e g a t i v e

T h i s i s w h y t h e
government
is
actively
s e e k i n g a l t e r n a t i v e s
to
the
subsidy ,
as
the
2023
national
budget
o n l y p r o v i d e s f o r i t
until
June
of
that
year
T h e I n t e r n a t i o n a l
Monetary
Fund
(IMF)
h a s u r g e d f o r t h e
r e m o v a l o f t h e
s u b s i d y , c i t i n g i t s
s i g n i fi c a n t
c o n t r i b u t i o n t o
revenue
loss
and
its
i m p a c t o n t h e
government's
ability
to
f u n d d e v e l o p m e n t a l
projects. However ,
the
Nigerian
g o v e r n m e n t i s
committed
to
finding
a
solution
that
balances
e c o n o m i c
sustainability
with
the
w e l l b e i n g o f i t s
citizens.
In
April
2023,
Nigeria
s e c u r e d a g e n e r o u s
$800
million
in
grants
from
the
W orld
Bank
to
scale
up
its
social
p r o g r a m s a h e a d o f
the
subsidy
removal. This
funding
will
help
mitigate
the
potential
negative
effects
of
the
subsidy's
removal
and
ensure
that
Nigerians
are
not
left
behind
in
the
country's
economic
progress.

government
is
taking
a
t h o u g h t f u l a n d
measured
approach
to
t h e r e m o v a l o f f u e l
subsidies,
recognizing
t h e n e e d f o r
