What is the National Framework of Qualifications? The Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), as shown in the diagram above, is a 10-level system used to describe qualifications in the Irish education and training system. You can use the NFQ to compare and understand accredited education and training courses in Ireland; below are some examples:

At the end of secondary school, students (typically age 18) complete their Leaving Certificate (Level 4 or 5).

What is SOLAS?

FET ofers a wide variety of life-long education and training options to anyone over 16. FET includes apprenticeships, traineeships, full-time Level 5 and 6 courses (previously called Post-Leaving Cert or PLC courses) community and adult education as well as core literacy and numeracy services. FET is provided through the 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs) located throughout the country and also online through SOLAS’ eCollege.
