A NURTURING, INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
As proud members of the Mar Vista community, Windward is always eager to share the stories, connections, and collaborations that unite us with our neighbors and the greater Los Angeles area. From service learning projects to local partnerships to student-led initiatives, we strive to be active, engaged members of our broader community.

CITY OF SANTA MONICA WELL WORK
The City of Santa Monica manages a series of municipal water wells located on or near Windward’s campus. At times, the City is required to conduct maintenance or infrastructure work on these wells, which can occasionally create noise or other temporary disruptions. While we understand and share the community’s frustration when this happens, please note that Windward has no control over the timing, scope, or schedule of this City-managed work.
The City is working on two new well sites as part of its ongoing water infrastructure improvements: one located in the Sawtelle Parking Lot and another near the channel by the Athletic Field. This project is managed entirely by the City’s Water Division and is currently expected to be completed by Summer 2026.
We will continue to share updates as we receive them from the City of Santa Monica. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Dawn Barrett for more information.

With the 2025–26 school year well underway, Windward remains deeply committed to upholding its transportation requirements and supporting smooth traffic flow for our students and neighbors alike. This year, a significant portion of our student body is enrolled in the bus program, and all carpools are being regularly monitored by our Security and Administrative teams to ensure compliance and efficiency.
These collective efforts have already helped ease congestion during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, and we hope they’ve also contributed to a more seamless traffic experience in the surrounding neighborhood.
Now that the School’s construction project has officially reached completion (hooray!), our on-campus parking and circulation have greatly improved. We are deeply grateful for the continued support and partnership of the Mar Vista community.
For questions or concerns, please contact Dawn Barrett at dbarrett@windwardschool.org.

SERVICE LEARNING AT WINDWARD
It’s been a great start to the 2025–2026 school year! Our students have been eager to dive into service learning projects both on and off campus. We have many exciting events planned to close out 2025, and we look forward to continuing our work in the Mar Vista community through a variety of projects in the coming months.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR SERVICE EVENT
On October 13, Windward hosted its first Middle School service learning event of the school year in partnership with PATH (People Assisting the Homeless).
After a two-week drive that collected more than 100 new and gently used Halloween costumes, Middle School students and parents came together to decorate pumpkins, make treat bags, and create a variety of Halloween decorations. All supplies will be donated to PATH for their annual Halloween party at one of their housing locations in Los Angeles.
10TH GRADE SERVICE TRIPS
At the start of October, we launched our 10th Grade Service Retreats. All 10th Grade students are required to participate in at least one service trip throughout the year. The first was in partnership with Surfrider, where students took part in a beach clean-up in Santa Monica. The second trip partnered students with Miry’s List, an organization that supports refugee families as they resettle in the United States. Students helped pack individualized home care kits for families in need.
SERVICE HONORS SOCIETY
In October, 50 Upper School students were inducted into the Service Honors Society, celebrating an exceptional group of individuals who have not only excelled academically but have also demonstrated an unwavering commitment to service and leadership.
To be inducted into the Service Honors Society, students must complete at least 100 hours of community service, secure a letter of recommendation, and submit a personal statement reflecting on their service experiences and growth.
UPCOMING EVENTS
• 10th Grade experiential Service Learning trips with Surfrider, PATH, Bread and Roses, Hope in a Suitcase, and Miry’s List
• Fall Festival Baskets and Arts & Crafts Fair for Allies for Every Child
