Equinor produced this week its first oil from Peregrino C platform, their latest platform to enter production in Brazil. This platform is part of the Peregrino Phase 2 which shall extend the life of the Peregrino field until 2040 adding 250-300 million barrels of oil. An important remark on this phase is that the carbon dioxide emissions per barrel of oil produced are expected to be halved. The project was initially planned to start in 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the project did not exceed the original budget expectation.

Wilson Sons hosted yesterday at Rio’s Pier Mauá quay the baptism of its brand new tug WS Orion. The unit has IMO TIER III class notation which provides the reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 75%, contributing to the improvement of air quality. This standard is already required in some regions of North America and Europe. WS Orion is the second tug of a series of six designed by Damen Shipyards and features over 90 tons of bollard pull, escort tug class notation, FIFI-1 certified firefighting equipment and its new hull design allows an estimated reduction of up to 14% in fuel consumption..

new FPSO Petrobras reported that their new FPSO Anita Garibaldi (MV33) has officially departed the shipyard in Dalian, China towards Brazil. The unit went through a 4-day test period in the anchorage area, just before starting the voyage to Brazil. MODEC’s Anita Garibaldi will join Yinson’s Anna Nery in Marlim’s revitalization project in Campos Basin. The project comprises replacing a total of nine platforms operating at Marlim and Voador oil fields. FPSO Anita Garibaldi is due to begin production in Q1/2023. The unit will be connected to 43 wells with capacity to produce up to 80.000 bpd and process up to 7 million cbm of gas per day with its production peak expected by 2026. Upon arrival in Brazil, the Anita Garibaldi will head to Jurong shipyard in Aracruz to complete her commissioning process, undergo regulatory surveys and further operational tests.

The vessel was supporting the installation of four floating thermal plants in Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro. Although the installation of the four plants had been previously approved by INEA, the state commission for environmental control, the Rio de Janeiro state Judiciary ordered the suspension of the installation and operation of the four units contesting the exemption Karpowership was granted from presenting environmental studies to obtain the necessary local environmental agency licenses.
