FROM Coyote Flats

Welcome to our 11th annual bull sale. What an incredible run the cattle industry is on. Ranchers were selling their calves shortly after they were born on video sales for fall delivery for never seen before prices. It really made everyone sit up and pay attention and more calves sold earlier on video sales than ever before. On top of the great calf prices, the cull market also continued climbing, with both cows and bulls reaching new highs. I have had a hard time wrapping my head around these numbers, but they seem to be staying around, hopefully for years to come.

On a personal note, 2024 and 2025 have been a couple of exciting years for Trish and me. It started off with Christopher marrying Grace Gouws on June 8th, 2024. Then we started the new year with a trip to Germany in February to get my back fixed up. I had 2 discs replaced in my lower back and I am happy to report that it went very well. Then on April 14th we were blessed with our 2nd granddaughter Georgia Dawn Nelson. She came a little bit early, but she is doing great and just like Mackenzie she has me wrapped around her little finger. On October 19th our youngest son Zachary got married to Rouaa Ahmed.

This year’s crop of bulls is an excellent set. Cody and Chris have worked very hard on the herd. We have been culling exceptionally hard over the past few years. This has resulted in more consistency throughout our herd. Our goal has always been to try and give the rancher a bull that will calve easily, and at the same time, give him a calf that performs and tips the scale in the fall. All the time hoping that we will have an opportunity to feed these calves in fall and have them also perform well for us in the feedlot. If you are unable to attend or would prefer that we pick out a bull for you, Cody, Christopher, or I would be more than willing to help out. Please don’t hesitate to contact one of us to discuss your needs.

New this year we will be selling some bred heifers. These heifers were purchased together with Moebis Bros. With the cow herd shrinking, we thought there was an opportunity to help with building the herd back up with the kind of heifers that will work great being bred to Charolais bulls.

Lastly, be sure to check out our “Win-Win” program. It’s always exciting to buy calves from our customers and have the opportunity to see how our genetics perform in the feedlot. It’s great to have customers show faith in our program by buying bulls yearly from us and be able to reward them by buying their calves back and showing faith in their program. We realize that selling directly to us is not an option that everyone prefers, so if you let us know when and where you are selling your calves, we will do our best to support you at your sale.

Hope to see you at the sale!!

the

WIN-WIN

program

We believe in our bulls! We believe in supporting our bull customers! We believe in the feeding ability that calves sired by our bulls have, that is why every bull sold in our sale comes with a bid on our customers calves in the fall.

The Win-Win Program was developed because we want to develop a partnership with our customers in the cattle business. A successful partnership must benefit both parties, and we believe that the Win-Win Program allows for successful partnerships to be developed.

You Win

• Excellent sale price: We pay top dollar for the calves that enter our feedlot! We can also offer to contract your calves during the summer months.

• Less stress: On the day you wean your calves, you already know the price and don’t have to worry about what price you are going to get, or what the weather is going to do. No worries about calves getting cut out because of a minor problem or off colour. We are flexible on delivery times and dates.

• Less shrink: We have a government inspected scale at our facility. The calves are weighed on the truck and the shrink is determined on a sliding scale based on distance from our feedlot.

• No sales commission: All that you pay for is the brand inspection and the trucking to get your calves to our feedlot.

• Pride: You can come back to the feedlot and have a look at how your calves are doing and developing.

We Win

• Healthier calves: Calves are less stressed, therefore, they stay healthier.

• Performance: We get large groups of calves that packers are looking for and we know they will perform and yield among the best in the industry.

• Management: We can track performance of our different bloodlines from weaning to slaughter. We are also able to help with vaccination decisions, so we can vaccinate the calves the same way when they arrive at the feedlot.

• Feedback: We can give you feedback on the performance and health of calves.

WELCOME FROM WRIGHT LIVESTOCK MARKETING SERVICES

Welcome to the 11th Annual Coyote Flats Charolais Bull & Commercial Female Sale!

We are excited to be a part of this 11th edition of the Coyote Flats Charolais Bull Sale, working with the Lohues family again. For the last 11 years, we have watched this sale gain momentum year after year. This year, there is an exciting addition to the sale, an elite group of bred commercial females will sell, which compliments their bull sale offering nicely.

The Coyote Flats Charolais program is continually evolving. This program has never been one to shy away when it comes to capitalizing on genetic opportunities and adding new herd sires and key breeding pieces to their program to push it forward, without sacrificing the quality and traits that you have come to expect from the Coyote Flats program. We will see some sons of the Lindskov herd bulls they purchased out of South Dakota a few years ago now, which will provide the opportunity for some outcross genetics for those customers who support this sale year after year.

The yearling and two-year old bulls featured in the catalogue pages are a very functional and solid group that can go out and work in your cow herd. There are performance bulls if you are looking for those bulls with some extra punch to sire those calves that tip the scales at weaning, or heifer bulls that will sire those calves that will go out and grow. You can have the peace of mind knowing that Coyote Flats stands behind their bulls and values the relationships they build and maintain with their customers.

The bred commercial female group is a welcome addition to the bull sale this year. With the cattle market seeing unprecedented high prices being captured by cattle producers, it is a great time to add some fresh new females into your herd to replace those old cull cows you have been holding onto or expanding your herd with those commercial females that will go out and work for you.

With the quality of the two-year old and yearling bull pens, and the outstanding offering of commercial bred heifers, you won’t want to miss the 11th Annual Coyote Flats Charolais Bull & Commercial Female Sale. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions about the offering or require some assistance on sale day with telephone or proxy bidding, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,

Jon: (306)807-8424

WELCOME

FROM HIGH LEVEL CATTLE CONSULTING

Welcome to the 11th Annual Coyote Flats Bull Sale. Every year for the past 6 years we sit down with the Lohues family and discuss the nutrition program we are going to put forward for these bulls. The Lohues Family always insist on developing a bull in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an animal that will sustain his soundness for multiple breeding seasons. We have formulated a balanced ration that meets growth curve requirements necessary for proper breeding maturation that allows for superior genetics to be passed on.

These bulls have been raised on a chelated mineral program that was designed to enhance immunity, semen quality and strong foot structure. Coyote Flats is committed to their customers through the feeder cattle buyback program, with a vested interest in raising a quality product for everyone involved. It’s very seldom that you run into a purebred operation that is as dedicated to the industry like Coyote Flats. If you have any questions around the rations don’t hesitate to call (403)-634-5590.

WELCOME

FROM CATTLE HEALTH MANAGEMENT

1

TO THE BUYER OF THE HIGH SELLING BULL

It is time for the 11th annual Coyote Flats Charolais bull sale and on behalf of the veterinarians at Telus Cattle Professional Services, Lethbridge, I am very pleased to share with you some of the health practices of this organization. I have been working with Coyote Flats Charolais for over 30 years and have a great deal of respect for the integrity they show towards their community, the agricultural industry, and their customers. The Lohues family strives to ensure that the customer is treated fairly throughout all interactions. Additionally, Coyote Flats Charolais is very conscientious regarding the health of the cattle that are on the farm, and those that are to be sold. Vaccinations are carried out in a timely manner to help prevent disease in the individual animals as well as in the calves that are raised. All cows receive a 5-way (IBR, PI3, BRSV, BVD Type I & II) modified live virus vaccine pre-breeding to protect the fetus from infection with IBR or BVD. This program is started while the cows are still calves, so all mature cows have received at least 2 doses of the 5-way viral before first conception and then annually pre-breeding after that. When the calves are born, they are initially given an intranasal IBR, PI3, BRSV and an intranasal Mannheimia hemolytica and Pasteurella multocida for protection against respiratory illness. At branding time, the calves are given a modified live 5-way viral to continue this protection, as well as an 8-way Clostridial vaccine that also contains Histophilus somni. The 5-way viral and the 8-way Clostridial vaccines are boosted at weaning time and then the heifers are given the 5-way viral pre-breeding. This program provides maximum protection for the calves against respiratory disease as well as protecting the fetus from BVD infection and abortion from these viruses.

The bull calves go through this vaccination program as well, and before leaving the farm they also receive Fusogard and the booster for protection against footrot during the breeding season. Nutrition is also an important component of raising purebred cattle. Coyote Flats Charolais has a nutritional consultant to ensure a complete nutritional program for the bulls being raised as well as all the livestock on the farm. It is important that the bulls are fed for the purpose of longevity, not just for size.

Coyote Flats Charolais has a comprehensive herd health program and have invited the us to work closely with them in all aspects of their cattle operation. This involves everything from pregnancy diagnosis, and breeding soundness evaluation of the bulls, to regular herd health visits for crew training and monitoring of health. We are also involved in the feedlot aspect of this farm and in the past, many of the calves that have been inducted into the feedlot have been purchased from producers that have sourced their bulls from Coyote Flats Charolais. This close working relationship demonstrates the confidence Coyote Flats Charolais has in their genetics and has proven beneficial for both the cow/calf producer and Coyote Flats Charolais. The Lohues family is always interested in developing more of these relationships with producers that are purchasing bulls and would welcome any inquiries regarding providing calves for sale to the Coyote Flats Charolais feedlot, and vaccination and health protocols for the cows and calves from these herds. It has been a privilege to work closely with Coyote Flats Charolais in all aspects of cattle health.

Sincerely,
