co-fusion: a modular system for transformation PROJECT Competition

On the neighbourhood scale, our proposal departs from the original intent for the Bijlmer. The use of the car is separated from bicyclists and pedestrians. The project site consists out of unique qualities. Considering the H-buurt, particularly Hakfort en Huigenbos, the elevated road Karspeldreef is an authentic traffic artery and the parking facilities used to be the first station before entering the flats. Now, the site is in a state of transition and the different modes of transportation collide. In our proposal we reinstate the division between modes of transportation while establishing modern day facilities that answer to the city’s ambition for a emission-free mobility plan. Therefore, the urban design exploits the unique, strategic positioning of the H-buurt in regards to mobility. In addition, the urban design aims to creatively explore ways to integrate the H-buurt with its unique artistic expressions and cultural capital by fusing the public spaces and facilities. The new H-buurt Boulevard reinterprets the geological structure out of which the Bijlmer emerged and expresses in a colourful way its new identity in order to invite, attract, and engage users with local productivity. Essentially, the proposal aims to integrate mobility (Dreef & Boulevard) with productivity.

Bandirma park of possibilities PROJECT Competition

Bandirma Park offers an unique park experience: It combines four different parks into one. The design is a result from a strategic approach in which working with existing resources exploits the sense of time, types of meetings and interacting, and strategic positioning within the urban fabric. The continuity of the landscape, diverse as it is and could be, is essential to enable the Bandirma Park experience. Therefore the plan is rooted in existing, hidden, and potential qualities. In the end the landscape design needs to reinstate the coherency, which the current situation is lacking. Bandirma Park is not viewed as an empty volume or an undefi ned in-between space resulting from the proposed architecture. Rather, Bandirma Park is viewed as a journey, from the point of landscape architecture. The design of new surfaces, planes, and networks results in a proposition of a new realm that is unique to the region and attracts, captures, and guides visitors to the various zones: It becomes coherent by activating the landscape.

PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW Welding the weegie waterfront: story of lucy PROJECT Workshop

In this workshop we used the story of Lucy but stories of other Glaswegians with different characteristics (varying demographics - gender, age, socioeconomic background, etc.), could also be imagined to explain the needs of other Glaswegians. While infinite stories could be told, for the purposes of this planning tool, the number of personas should be limited and carefully targeted, in order to explain the necessary variation of experience, while allowing people to focus on the planning proposals. The story should be used to assist the planning process. It’s an enabling system that allows the principal focus in the project to remain at the centre: Rethinking the Clyde Waterfront. In our project this is: Welding the Weegie Waterfront.

‌ TRANQUILITY IN MOSCOW ‌ PROJECT Workshop

The ISOCARP YPP National Workshop 2014 in Moscow focused on the redevelopment of the VDNh area, the former all-Russian industrial exhibition site. Recent transfer of the ownership to the Moscow municipality offered a good chance to reconsider future scenarios for the site.

SITE Moscow (VDNH), RU

Moscow is busy, too busy. Moscovites need to be able to escape the city, within the city. In addition, the VDNh contains a lot of potential to house and exhibit the richness of Russian history, national achievements, and diverse cultural ways of living. The proposed plan for VDNh will slow down the tempo and increase the focus and enjoyment of living in Moscow. The project proposes to escape the busy city; via a park, in addition to uncovering by discovering; via edutainment. By doing so, the project proposes to transform the area to become even more popular, informative, and global-orientated while remaining different, eclectic, and magical.

bridging the gap PROJECT Workshop

Main task of the SUSREG/ISOCARP project is to rethink planning and development policies in accordance with energy efficiency and the use of renewables.. The project site is the neighbourhood of Sępolno in the city of Wrocław. Our group, Group D – Bridging the gap, focused on assigned themes: energy efficiency; transportation; materials; carbon footprint; overall environmental impact.

SITE Wrocław, PL

Our process depends on constructing models which allow for scenario planning. The approach is structured in such a way that the development of tools are prioritized in order to answer the sustainable goals. The approach is promoting a nonphysical approach where actors are involved in projects which are more frequently tested. These relate to policies necessary and are based on the various objectives of committed actors. We state that a flexible, heuristic way of planning is needed to make Sępolno a sustainable neighborhood.

Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning September 29, 2016

To whom it may concern, I would like to endorse Wouter Pocornie as qualified urban planner. I support him in his future projects in the field of urbanism and would recommend him as a valuable asset to your team. As a coordinator of the YPP SUSREG workshop in Wrocław, Poland (2014 ) I have come to know him as enthusiastic participant who contributed during the discussions and delivered in production. His focus on methodology and graphic representations of processes in models helped bring content, structure and overview to the group. At the end of the workshop he was awarded as the best non-local participant and he received a scholarship to participate in the annual ISOCARP congress that took place in Gdynia, Poland (2014), at which we both presented the results. In my experience I can conclude that Wouter is a person who values projects, international perspectives, and focuses on achieving the best possible results. Throughout his research projects, Wouter has shown extraordinary analytical skills, especially when it comes to balance priorities and long term vision. His ideas show a special interest for incorporating community participation in the planning discussion and also on ensuring that the economic impact of measures is inclusive to all social actors. I consider these soft skills essential for the development of fruitful ideas in the intricate field of urban planning. I am convinced Wouter would make a great asset to your team and is an outstanding candidate to any professional practice, academic program, or entrepreneurial venture in the fields of his profession. For further questions, feel free to contact me. Sincerely,

Rolf Schuett Dipl. Ing. (FH) Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning MA (TU) World Heritage Studies ISOCARP Member since 2008

Dear Sir or Madam, This is to recommend architect urbanist Wouter Pocornie. I have known Wouter for two years, having acted as his research supervisor at the Master programme of the Department of Urbanism of the Delft University of Technology. Wouter has pursued two consecutive programmes in Architecture and Urbanism, within the Explore Lab education programme. The Explore Lab is meant for exceptionally motivated individuals pursuing research and design themes of relevance at a high level. During this period, I have come to appreciate Wouter as a truly exceptional designer and researcher. I am confident to state that he would surely be a valuable addition to any organisation. Wouter has shown great capacity for analytical reflection and a very critical stand towards issues discussed during his graduation project. This project presented Wouter with great challenges, in terms of research capacity, but also in terms of organisation and personal endurance. Wouter has proved to be an exceptional researcher, planner and designer. He developed a strategy plan for a slum area in post-disaster Haiti with deep knowledge of the challenges and issues at hand, a deep understanding of governance and of the stakeholders involved, and a very effective review of the existing literature on the themes he was tackling. The site and the theme chosen for the project are amongst the most difficult on Earth and Wouter has acted professionally and ethically towards the challenges he was presented with. Most importantly, he has demonstrated that he can deal with very complex topics and very difficult locations.

Date Reference Page/of

Wouter is able to communicate in a very clear amiable way and was quick to respond to input given by his supervisors. These are very important qualities in 19 March 2009 an . area where communication and teamwork have such a central role. He has an excellent appreciation of the value of an effective communication strategy. 2/2 He is hardworking, conscientious and thorough. He has showed capacity for leadership in several occasions. I am very impressed by his skills in English, both written and oral. I strongly recommend Wouter for a position in your organisation. Yours sincerely,
