How to Make the Most of YOUR CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP?

Asa former Diplomat Team Lead and a longtime member of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, I can’t stress enough the value of being a part of this organization. I have been able to grow a nationwide fitness concept, sell over 100 franchises, partner with other local business owners, and start other successful companies in the area, all thanks to The Chamber and the tips I’ll share below.

I initially joined The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce because our franchise consultant at the time told us it was the number one way to sell franchises. That shocked me since we live in a digital age, but she was right. The key is making real connections through The Chamber and digitally sharing those interactions; let me explain.

Many people think that attending Chamber events is all about meeting new prospects. While that is certainly important, the real benefits come from building lasting relationships with other members. You need to get involved, serve on a team, and build real connections to get the most out of your membership.

But here’s the thing - most people stop there. They attend events, meet some people, and then move on. If you want to take your membership to the next level and see real results for your business, you need to go the extra mile. That means making Facebook friends, adding Instagram followers, and LinkedIn connections, growing your social media presence, and posting about your involvement with The Chamber on all of the above. Post more pics, and tag more friends. It’s that easy.

The more interactions your posts get, the more friends of those business owners you tagged will also see your post. And that can lead to more potential customers for your business. The power of doing this is exponential, and it’s hard to comprehend how much opportunity is in this community, especially if you get this part right.

By posting pictures of yourself with other business owners and tagging them on social media, you can become a community ambassador and build affinity and trust with a much larger audience. This is how we sold so many franchises - not by selling to Chamber members themselves, but by tapping into their greater sphere of influence.

Lean on the Chamber for opportunities to become a community ambassador. They offer resources and training to help you improve your digital presence and make the most out of your membership.

They are known as the pathway to opportunity for a reason.

BEING A PART OF THE WOODLANDS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS ONE

Jim Carman, Chairman of the Board, The Howard Hughes Corporation and J.J. Hollie, Chamber President & CEO awarded Ashley Reina with her Diplomat of the Month certificate.

The BAC Story: Business Advocacy Council

The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce is an important way for residents, businesses, and organizations to connect on issues vital to our continued growth and quality of life. The networking and community involvement the Chamber facilitates is valuable to us all.

Within the Chamber, the Business Advocacy Council (BAC) offers all members the opportunity to hear directly from leading organizations, government agencies and other sources on issues that impact our businesses and community every day. Some of the issues discussed at BAC meetings over the past several months included;

n Incorporation of The Woodlands

n Water usage, sources and plans

n Flooding, subsidence

n Education

n Transportation; county, state and interstate plans

n Public safety

n Population growth

n Building and development issues

n The 2023 legislative session; bills that could impact our community

n Federal, state, and local elected officials delivered legislative and other updates

n Topics of importance as they arise

The Chambers Board often requests input on the stance the Chamber should take on issues, and recommendations from BAC are an integral component of their decision-making process. This is the committee to join to gain detailed knowledge on issues, discuss them with other leaders, and make your voice heard.

We all want to make positive impacts on our community, and BAC provides a forum to be an influence. The Chamber is an incredible resource for small businesses: participating in BAC will heighten your awareness, strengthen your influence, and help your business.

The Council discussed key issues that The Chamber advocates on including CISD school bond, property taxes, economic development and water. If you want to learn about what’s affecting your local business community and have a direct impact on The Chamber’s advocacy agenda, BAC is the place to be.

Why Should You Care About The Executive Leadership Council Meeting?

There are very few events throughout the year where a lot of the CEOs of some of the area’s most prominent and influential businesses, past and present Chairmen of the Chamber, Chamber Board members, and many Executive Level Members of the Chamber all congregate at one time. The Chamber’s monthly Executive Leadership Council luncheon is one of them.

Not only do you get to learn about what’s happening in all of the communities in The Woodlands vicinity, including Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North as well The Woodlands, but where else can you hear information about new mall projects, exciting new stores and venues coming into the area and fantastic expos and community events. Yes, you could read about some stuff in the news or on “the Google”, but to really get the inside scoop you need to be in this room. And this is way more fun with great food and productive networking. It is something I look forward to monthly.

Many of the local law enforcement folks are there to ask questions and give updates on potential issues to keep your eyes peeled for in the community which is always helpful. Many representatives of the local, state, and federal governments are there to give updates on things like policy and potential legislation coming down the pike, etc.

This is an amazing event that, if you care about your community, want to get more involved, and know what is going on in all facets of the community, you should not hesitate. JUST DO IT!
