Netball History Made at the Grove

Our 1st VII netball squad made school history by reaching the Final of the Independent Schools National Cup. Despite a challenging 1st quarter, which was hard to come back from, the girls did not give up the fight, finishing runners up 53:42.

The same squad, along with our U14s, represented Yorkshire in the England Schools Netball National Finals. They played against the top 18 teams in the country with our U19s finishing equal 7th . All the girls in this senior squad joined the Grove in Year 7 (or earlier) which is a true testament to netball development here.

Our U14s won 5 of their 8 game and finished equal 6th in the Country. We are so proud of this young group of talented athletes and look forward to their next 4 years of Grove Netball.

The Addams Family

Wow! What an incredible production of the Addams Family last week by our very talented students from Years 9 and 10. Some amazing solos and comedic timing.

Thank you to all the parents for their continued support and to the team of staff that have coached 2 teams to National Finals!

A Day Trip to London

Last Saturday, some of our Miller boarders, accompanied by boarding tutors, Miss Myers and Miss Winks, went on a London adventure.

They headed to Oxford Street for breakfast and then made their way to the Twist Museum, an immersive experience that challenges the way we see things.

Afterwards, some enjoyed shopping for a few hours, whilst others enjoyed seeing the sights managing to see the London Eye, Big Ben, Downing Street, Horse Guards Parade and Buckingham Palace!

Finally, everyone met up again in Camden Town, before heading back on the train. A busy, but excellent use of sixteen hours!

Celebrating Neurodiversity

Last week, we celebrated Neurodiversity Week across The Grove and Brontë House. At The Grove we celebrate all the strengths that come with thinking differently...there is no right way of thinking and learning!

Culture Week April 2024

We are looking forward to our first ever Culture Week after the Easter break. With a number of activities planned, including Bollywood dancing, designing our names in Mandarin and a cultural fashion show we are hoping it will be both a fun and

basketball fixture of the year, narrowly

Leeds this half term. They visited Leeds Grand Theatre with Miss Winks to see Fantastically Great Women which is based on the award winning book by Kate Pankhurst. They thoroughly enjoyed the show.

At the beginning of March, Mr Hicks took some of our Miller girls to Hollywood Bowl in Leeds. They had a brilliant time, despite Mr Hicks beating them all!

Science Week

As part of science week, some of our Year 10 students, including boarders, took part in a "Women in STEM" day at the University of Bradford.

There was an introduction from the Vice Chancellor, Shirley Congdon, followed by a panel discussion with female scientists. The students enjoyed a Q&A session with these successful women and had a tour of the University labs for AI, bioengineering, cancer therapeutics and pharmaceuticals.

Arup Engineering presented their engaging workshops in our new Sixth Form centre for all of Year 10 as well as Year 12 Maths pupils. The engineers from ARUP led sessions focusing on careers in engineering and a bridge building activity.

The sixth form pupils had an additional session studying bridge design. They were challenged to re-design a footbridge for the electrification of a rail line and then presented their designs to the other groups.

Our younger year groups had numerous science based activities, including a poster design competition.

West Yorkshire Golf Champions

Congratulations to Matty H, Oliver G and Jude G who won the West Yorkshire Schools' Golf Championship at Howley Hall Golf Club and have qualified for the Yorkshire Schools' Championship at Darrington Golf Club in April!

Additional congratulations to Matty H who was the Under 16 West Yorkshire Schools Champion scoring 38 points over the 15 holes played.

We took four teams to Rosslyn Park 7s Rugby this year. Boarders were involved with 3 of these teams; the U14s and U16s narrowly missed out on a second day of play due to a weak first game for both, our U19s found life tough in a very strong group and our U13s had a great day at the end of the week with 5 wins out of 5. A superb event on our school calendar.
