CULTURE WEEK

This week was Culture Week at Brontë House! Each Year group within the School was inves ga ng a different culture in this week's Humani es lessons. Pre‐Nursery have been making their own Bri sh flags and one of our Year 2 children taught everyone how to count to 10 in Lithuanian.

Recep on have been learning about Sri Lanka. They have looked at some artefacts, which belong to one of our pupils, whose Daddy was born in Sri Lanka. She showed her class mates a picture of the largest temple in Sri Lanka called Tissamaharama and shared a picture of her name in Sinhala.

In Year 3, Sarin taught the children some phrases and shared lots of informa on about life in The Czech Republic. Year 3 have enjoyed producing some work for our whole school Culture Week display.

Nursery has really enjoyed an induc on to the garden patch area this week. The children made notes on what they might need to plant and they looked at and discussed what was growing. This is now a weekly session for our class.

Year 4 have con nued with the theme of India in Culture Week and inves gated art forms, before crea ng their own rangoli pa erns, using natural materials. We are very impressed with the results!

Year 1 and 2 Earth Art club have been crea ng faces using natural materials found around the grounds.

Year 2 have begun their ‘Let’s Go On Safari’ topic this week and have been learning about where Kenya is in the world. They have been enjoying their middle room ac vi es in the ‘Safari Booking Office’ ‐ selling ckets, leaflets and maps and working out the cost, drawing African inspired pa erns and crea ng Kenyan fact files.

Year 2 have also been researching endangered animals in prepara on for their new Pathways to Wri ng book ‘The Last Wolf’ by Mini Grey. They are also enjoying their new class reading book Fantas c Mr Fox by Ronald Dahl. This week they were exploring the text and recording their answers using Seesaw.

Year 3 and 4 also enjoyed their first rounders session. Brilliant catching and throwing skills were on show along with great team support. A really enjoyable club to be involved with.

The rain wasn't just falling outside this week, there was a downpour in the science lab too! Year 4 made clouds in a beaker as part of their studies into the water cycle.

Year 4 have been conduc ng lots of science inves ga ons this week. We have been finding out about the mel ng point of ice and learning how to read a thermometer.

Year 5 are currently enjoying crea ng circuits in their compu ng lessons. They have learnt how to build a basic LED circuit on the computer and have begun to add further components so they can make the LED lights flash on and off. In future lessons, they will con nue to explore a wri en coding language and program their own LED light shows!

Y5 kickstarted their ‘Circle of life’ topic this week with a plant dissec on lesson.

As part of their Evolu on and Inheritance topic, Year 6 had fun crea ng their own designer dog breeds this week.

In compu ng , Year 6 are using ny computers called micro:bits and a emp ng to develop programs to get them to do various things. This week, they used selec on and variables to turn the micro:bit into a fortune teller!
