Woodford International School

Hey all!

Honestly, we can't believe that Term 3 is almost halfway through! Time is flying by so fast, but as usual we have another fun issue for you to enjoy during your free time! Also, don’t forget to study since Mock exams are in two days! Best of luck to everyone!

Celebrating Diversity Through Festivals

One of Woodford’s traditional annual events would be International day, and for this year the theme was to celebrate diversities through festivals!

With classes choosing different festivals from Chinese New Year to Hibiscus festivals to Christmas and La Tomatina! Students from each class showcased their fun festival as well as

representing the country. The program started off with the march in which all classes walked down the breeze-way onto the stage with their flags and beautiful colorful costumes, creating a rainbow to the rainy morning! Next was the lively performances from all the classes! We got to see a beautiful fashion show showcasing the Rio festival from the Year 6’s all the way from Brazil to a local Solomon Island dance performed by the Year 11’s, and a beautiful dance by the Year 12’s representing the Marshall Islands was there to close the program. The performances definitely were the highlights of the day since each and everyone was so unique and fun to watch and to cheer for them.

After the performances, primary classes went to the secondary area to visit the classrooms and they were fascinated by all the information that they were learning about, and ofcourse the food that was provided. The main star of the show had to be the freshly deep fried churros that the Year 10’s made, representing Spain!

After that Secondary classes also gave the Primary area a visit and were amazed by the effort they had put into creating beautiful artwork and writing up interesting information.

Thank you to all that participated!

Three way conference

On the 30th of July, we had a threeway conference for our secondary students.

With students varying from middle and high school, we went around each class to talk with our teachers and parents for ten minutes within the time you had.

During these ten minutes you would talk about your progress, behaviors, This also happens to be one of the most stressful times for our students.

As stressful as the event is, it also gives you the harsh reality of how you are doing in class. During the meeting with your teachers, you also figure out your flaws in your learning.

It also helps with picking out what you are good at in the class, whether or not you should take drastic steps to improve, and adjust simple courses on how to do your work in a way that helps you.

Recruitment!!

Another reminder that we may be picking out potential students in secondary school who will be joining to eventually take over once the seniors leave and eventually the rest of the current group.

We would like to stress that it needs to be done soon as exams will be occupying us and will drag for about a month or so.

We’re also open to volunteers who would like to join The Drum. It won’t be an easy job to continuously put up the issues, but we will be here to guide you during the first while.

Thank you for reading!

WIS Secondary Scholarship Program 2025

On July 25th, WIS announced that they would be providing academic scholarships for two secondary students outside of Woodford to attend in the following academic year.

The main aim of this program is to give an opportunity for students that are outside of WIS to attend, especially those who are academically advanced and would benefit from the education and resources offered. Mr. Dan, the HOS has mentioned that this initiative has been in discussion with the responsible committee, however it was only finalized recently after all the planning and preparation has been completed.

During the interview, Mr. Dan described the application and selection process. The first stage is the collection of documents. The application has six parts; first is the collecting the applicants’ data and information. Next, is a recent transcript and report card, ID’s and reference letters.

The applicants also have to submit an open-ended narrative statement on how this scholarship would benefit them.

The second stage is the selection process. “On October 15th , we’ll take all of those and we have a committee of four individuals on the leadership team who will look through those. We’ll create a short list of candidates and we will invite them for an interview,” Mr. Dan explains. Following the interviews, two individuals will then be selected.

Additionally, those two students who are awarded the scholarship will have certain behavioral and academic merits to achieve in order to complete their education at Woodford. New spots will be a yearto-year basis in terms of what the leadership team and committee would be able to offer.

As of recently, there have been a few applicants and the applications will remain open until the 15th of October.
