Middle School Identity Design Challenge
By Kilifi Ruaia
by
the Year 8s is now an official competition for middle schoolers.
Anyone in the middle school district (Yr6-Yr8) has the opportunity to create a design that will be used as the school’s identity The design can vary through one of these three elements: a flag, a mascot, or a coat of arms (Crest)
But only the best of the best will be chosen, as long as the designs meet the following criteria:
● Creativity: Your design must come entirely from yourself NO PLAGIARISING only references are allowed!
● Relevancy: The design must be relevant to our school’s core values, which are Courage, Respect, Excellence, Diversity, Integrity, and Teamwork.
● Appearance: Your design must also be attractive! Pay special attention to symmetry when designing the flag or coat of arms.
● Symbol: Design must incorporate symbols representing our school's core identity and values
Once you have completed your design for any of the three elements, share it as a PNG or JPEG file not a PDF! Send it to this email: Atill.tomadek@wis.edu.sb by the 16th of May.
Also, a special Thanks to Sarrita, Mercy and Martha for their contributions to this article.
World Pilots day - Recap
By Kilifi Ruaia
As many of us witnessed last Friday (April 26th, Week 3), we were one of two lucky schools to be visited by Solomon Airlines! Pilots and airline staff came to our school and gave a brief presentation on what it means to be a pilot, the challenges they face, while answering some questions from our curious students.
For context, World Pilots' Day is an event celebrated annually on April 26th to honor the dedication, skill, and contributions of pilots worldwide The origins of World Pilots' Day trace back to 1912, when Fesa Evrensev, the first Turkish
pilot, took to the skies. In 2013, the Turkish Airlines Pilots Association proposed the idea of dedicating a day to pilots, and the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Associations (IFALPA) officially
established the celebration. April 26th was chosen to commemorate Evrensev's inaugural flight.
This visit has surely encouraged many of our students to consider careers as pilots.
Before we conclude, one final quote from one of the pilots left a lasting impression: “Never give up.”

Mothers day assembly
By Sophia Ceredon
We’re excited to invite all mums to our mothers day assembly on Friday, 9th may, from 8 30 - 9 30 AM at our school hall, hosted by the mothers day community.
This year’s theme is “rainbow”, celebrating the colour and joy our mothers bring to our lives. There will be performances such as poems, singing, and dancing that’ll take place just to honor our loving mothers
enjoy small refreshments in our training room right across the hall. Mother’s day is a special time to say thank you to our beautiful mothers for all the love, hard work, and support they’ve given us.
We look forward to seeing you there as we celebrate the wonderful women who do so much for us without asking for anything in return
