It’s the most wonderful time of the year. December is a time to reflect on all that has happened throughout the year. How has 2023 been for you?

Regardless of the tough times you came across this year, you are still here and you chose to keep your head high. Give yourself a standing ovation and choose to believe that heaven is celebrating your existence. Thus far, the Lord has sustained and carried us through.

As always Women’s Lifestyle brings you beautiful and life changing stories of women who against all odds have managed to show life flames. These women give us hope. They are living testimonies that we can rise above life’s hardships and conquer. Some of us have given up hope and before you throw in the towel, read Martha Mekgoe’s story. She started from scratch three times before she got her happily ever after and she’s still working hard to maintain her co-owned business. If this isn’t life’s lesson, I don’t know what is.

Ms Elliott is living prove that we have been called to influence and change others. Your calling isn’t meant for you. She’s able to multitasking, assisting women and youth all together at the same time.

Personally, I’m learning from her, I don’t know about you! Our women in the mining industry and the technology sector also have tips for us. NEOENTLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS My name is Dineo Monageng CEO and Founder of NeoEntle Beauty , from Soshanguve in Pretoria.I am a Skin Therapist/Nail Technician by profession and an entrepreneur by passion.

NeoEntle meaning (beautiful gift) named after my daughter, was founded in January 2020,I started the business so I can help people look and feel good about themselves every day. In the last 2 years the business has been offering beauty services including doing house calls.

May 2021 I was fortunate enough to be part of SEOBI Beauty and Personal Development Incubation Programme, where I got an opportunity to formulate and develop my own skincare product (Neoentle marula body butter and marula skin repair oil).During the programme I found passion in product development and felt I needed to do more , that is when NeoEntle Haircare products were born,I did my research and finally July 2023 we Launched 6 haircare products(shampoo, conditioner, hair butter, hair growth oil, detangling hair mist and hair styling gel).

These products are CHEBE and AMLA Infused, they also have ingredients like Rosemary, Castor oil, Aloe Vera, Tea tree, Hemp seed and many more. These products help promote hair growth by stimulating the hair follicle, they improve hair and scalp health and also help with hair breakage making hair stronger and restores your hairline. We have grown up hearing that 4c hair type is unmanageable and unattractive and can only grow to a certain length, hence we have a higher number of black South Africans or rather black people who relax their hair.4c hair is not only beautiful but also easily managed and taken care of with the correct regimen and product.

The haircare line is 100% organic, can be used on both natural and relaxed hair, it is very much S affordable and safe to use on kids.

For anyone who is looking into starting a business I would advise that you choose something that you are passionate about and you must do a lot of research, be patient and never lose hope.

DO WOMEN NEED INSURANCE POLICIES?

by Monique Meyer More and more women are entering and completing higher education courses in technology, science, engineering and related subjects. This has sparked an increase in representation of females in the mining sector, engineering firms etc. Their remuneration and access to employment has also increased over the years. As such, the need for female workplace amenities such as restrooms and breastfeeding friendly rooms have become part of the work spaces that are previously known as male dominated. This simply shows that women in these jobs for a long run.

The times when men worked and their spouses stayed home are long gone, instead every party plays an important role. Even men have a choice to stay home and take care of the children while their spouses work. What a breath of fresh air this has been!

This change is very visible in the life insurance industry, men used to be the main breadwinner so automatically they had more life insurance, disability, retirement funds and paid for the medical aids.

Because women are now coming forth with higher incomes, they are also required to take out these policies. A woman also contributes highly to the household income and therefore should she pass away, her relatives will need this cover to replace her income. It is also important to take note that women live longer than men and are considered “low-risk” making life insurance more affordable.

It is also important for women to know that yes you have life cover and a pension pay-out when you are employed in the mining industry but also that it is likely not enough. Go see a financial advisor, do estate planning, work out a plan and get more cover in place if you need it, get an additional retirement annuity to cover your shortfall, there is no reason why women cannot ask questions and educate themselves.

MEALIE BREAD

ROAST LAMB WITH POMEGRANA TE GLAZE

MALVA PUDDING

Ingredients

MEALIE BREAD

2 c (330 g) sweet corn kernels, (thawed if frozen, cut off of the cob if fresh), divided ½ c (118 ml) milk 2 eggs, beaten lightly 2 Tbsp (28 g) salted butter, melted 1 ½ c (180 g) unbleached all purpose flour 2 Tbsp cornmeal 2 Tbsp sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt ½ tsp paprika

Instructions 1. Preheat your oven to 350F. Butter a 8 ½ x 4 ½ loaf tin.

2. Place 1 cup of corn and the milk into your blender and blend until the corn is nicely pureed.

3. Add the remaining 1 cup of corn and blend just enough to chop the kernels coarsely.

4. Transfer the corn and milk mixture to a medium bowl. Add the beaten eggs and melted butter.

5. Add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and paprika to the bowl.

Mix until incorporated and evenly moist.

6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

7. Bake the mealie bread for 45-50 min.

Until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Cool the bread in the pan for 5 minutes before turning the bread out onto a wire rack to continue cooling.

9. Serve warm.

Instructions

ROAST LAMB WITH POMEGRANATE GLAZE Ingredients 4 cloves garlic finely chopped 2 tsp ground cinnamon 2 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp salt 2 tsp ground black pepper 2 + 2 Tbsp pomegranate molasses 1 Tbsp water 1.5 kg boneless lamb shoulder 2 onions cut into chunks 1 litre pomegranate juice 100 g pomegranate arils

1. Place the lamb in an oven-proof roasting dish. Using a small sharp knife, score the fat of the lamb in a diamond pattern to help the glaze stick to it. Rub the chopped garlic into the meat and fat.

2. Mix the cumin, cinnamon, salt and pepper well and use it to season the meat, then mix 2 Tbsp of the pomegranate molasses and water and pour over the meat. Cover with foil and refrigerate for 24 hours.

3. Remove the meat from the fridge 1 hour before cooking. Pre-heat the oven to 160C (150C with fan). Chop the onions and scatter in the base of the roasting dish with the lamb, tucking some under the meat as well.

Pour over the pomegranate juice.

4. Cover the meat tightly with foil and roast for 3 hours, then remove the foil and carefully pour the meaty pomegranate juices from the tin into a large saucepan and add the other 2 Tbsp pomegranate molasses.

Increase oven to 220C (200C fan), cover the lamb with foil again and continue cooking for 30 mins while you reduce the glaze.

5. Add the other 2 Tbsp of pomegranate molasses to the cooking juices in the saucepan and boil over high heat until the liquid reduces and starts to get sryupy, which could take up to 30 minutes.

6. Remove the lamb from the oven and remove the foil. Pour the syrupy pomegranate glaze over the lamb and onions and return to the oven for another 30 mins, uncovered, until the glaze is bubbling and just starting to char.

7. Sprinkle 2/3 of the pomegranate arils over the cooked meat and serve with a herby side salad of mint, flat leaf parsley, watercress and the rest of the pomegranate arils.

MALVA PUDDING cup sugar 2 large eggs ¼ cup apricot jam 1 teaspoon white vinegar 2 tablespoons butter unsalted melted ½ cup milk 1 cup all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt

Preheat your oven to 350° fahrenheit, spray an 8X8 cake pan with baking spray and set aside In a medium bowl using a hand mixer, beat together your sugar and eggs until light and lemon colored. Add in your jam and mix until well combined. Add in your melted butter, vinegar, and milk, mix for an additional 1-2 minutes.

In a separate bowl, sift together your flour, baking soda, and salt. Add this mixture to your egg mixture and mix for 2-3 minutes, until well combined.

Pour your batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-45 minutes, after the first 15 minutes cover your pudding with foil to keep it from getting too dark. Pudding should rise and become an even golden brown.

10 Tips on how to stay healthy during the festive holiday.

Can you believe that Christmas is around the corner?! During this last few weeks of the year there’s a lot of functions and gatherings, not to mention Christmas and New Years eve!

Occasions where we tend to over indulge in food and beverages! Here are 10 tips on how to stay healthy during this “silly” time of the year!

1. Stand away from the appetizer table and save yourself for the main course.

2. Have a snack before each function- you won’t eat as much if you are not hungry.

3. Pace yourself! If you know you have three gatherings in the same week, try to make healthy choices.

4. Christmas is a busy time, make sure you still get enough sleep!

5. Any exercise is better than nothing! Try to go for walks in your neighborhood. Take the stairs instead of the elevator! Park you car far from the mall’s entrance! This is just to name a few!

6. Keep your kitchen or fridge stocked with healthy foods. This is important for the days that you remain at home and get tempted to eat everything in the cupboard or fridge.

7. Take advantage of summer produce that includes fruit and nuts!

8. Go easy on the booze! Alcohol is full of kilojoules! Drink slowly or enjoy a glass of water between each round.

9. Stop and think before you have your second serving! Ask

You can either use store bought masks or even home made mask.

Recipe that works for her: •Coffee and honey scrub mask for glowing skin •Lemon juice for pimple break-outs.

•Tomato and turmeric to brighten skin and remove pimples.

Working underground can affect the skin, with all the toxins, dust, warm environment that make you sweat excessively and ventilation air drying out the skin because the air is cold.

Being exposed to toxic air and extreme temperatures can trigger skin irritation- rashes.

For dust, she normally use a moisturizer barrier to prevent the dust particles getting into her skin Due to sweating alot, you need to wipe your face and sometimes the cloth or face towel gets dirty and if you wipe your face with it repeatedly it normally triggers a pimples breakout.

So it's necessary to do the right face treatment for your skin.

Another important part that takes alot of punishment is your hands because, as they are being used to do all the hard work. Manicures and hand treatments are a must to avoid premature aging.

Especially ladies who are cleaners because they work with harsh chemicals and they must constantly wear gloves.

Mixing some sugar with hand cream, will work well to exfoliate your hands, removing the dead skin, making your hands feel soft!

You get different hand creams, that target different problems, if its for dry or anti-aging, you can find it all.

The hair also get affected. She washes and condition her hair daily and apply a hair mask weekly, to keep it in a healthy condition & shiny condition.

It's of utmost importance to keep your beauty routine going daily at home. Even if your tired, at night do your routine, because at night while you sleeping, is when your pores open and takes in all the products you reply. Also exfoliating once a week take off the dead cells, which make it easier for your skin to take the products into your skin.

RESILIENCE PERSONIFIED

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the quaint town of Drakenstein. It was a place where the tapestry of life was woven with threads of triumph and tragedy, and at the heart of it stood Charlene Elliott, a woman whose journey encapsulated the resilience of the human spirit.

Who is CHARLENE ELLIOTT Charlene Elliott, a remarkable influencer, who brought light to the Paarl community.

The 44 year old, mom, teacher, coach , “woman of strength” with a lot of love, passion and time for her elders, her community and herself has a dream to fulfil.it

Charlene epitomises the quote “ being the change we wish to see in this world” and through her life she aims to do just that – change the lives for the better of our communities.

Her resolute nature and her passion to serve, especially rural communities, can be seen in every project and the success of several campaigns to empower women and girls in society and bring hope to our kids -to our youth- in times we see so much despair.

She is the Headmaster of Learningtree Aftercare and Creche in Simondium for 7years.

The Aftercare and Creche are open for the community.

At Learningtree they focus on kids' growth, improving their skills, selfconfidence, entrepreneurship (where they started their own veggie garden) as well as academics and she also realised that sport is a valuable tool to teach social skills.

Her projects and the campaigns she was privileged to either launch herself or to be part of include the Anti-bullying Campaign (2019), where she worked with Mr.Wrestling and visited several schools as well as people with disabilities Charlene implemented a “I wish my teacher knew” box, where kids can write a letter, anonymously , to ask how to handle certain situations when they were bullied.

Her second, BIG project near to her heart is “Live of the Giving” Charity Shop. She started this project in July 2022, to help girls and boys who can’t afford to attend school dances, matric farewells or any other functions. The Shops Name was chosen with a great meaning, “Ons moet almal leef waar ons meer gee, in plaas van ontvang.” which if loosely understand is based on the principles of the spirit of Ubuntu which means – I am because you are meaning that a person can only progress through the growth and progression of others knowing that if we can influence and change the life of one person for the better we will inspire others to want to be part of a better and brighter South Africa.

She started with a small amount of dresses, where the community started to share donations to help the kids, from clothes to vouchers. So far, she has helped 40 girls.

In 2019 Charlene’s husband passed away and she lost herself. She started giving up on her life, and didn't really look after herself. In February 2022 she read about an 8 week Bokradio Ladies Lifestyle challenge on social media.

She realised how important it was and how healthy it is to have a healthy life. Charlene started with the challenge for 8 weeks and she’s still going strong. Amazingly, she won because she has lost the most kg’s and cm’s.

That was where Charlene realised how good it feels to feel so free. She started to help other ladies with their lifestyle too. That was where the roots of Titans Fit Me started.

Titans Fit Me is an affordable “gym” where ladies can be themselves and work hard to have a healthy lifestyle and achieve their goals.

Her commitment to community upliftment extended further as the chairwoma of the Drakenstein Municipality's local drug action committee.

She waged a silent war against the societal plague of substance abuse, striving to create a safer environment for her community.

The wrestling ring became her battlefield as the Chairlady for Women in Sport in the Cape Winelands.

Charlene aimed to break barriers, encouraging women to pursue their passion for sports, particularly in the male-dominated world of wrestling.

Recognition followed her tireless efforts. In 2023 alone, Charlene was named Influential Woman of the Year, Cape Winelands Sport Community Builder of the Year, and Cape Town Woman of the Year by the Women's Lifestyle Network. These accolades were not just symbols of success; they were affirmations of her commitment to making a difference.

Despite the challenges of 2023, a year that tested her in ways she couldn't have anticipated, Charlene emerged stronger, wiser, and more resilient. The difficulties she faced were not roadblocks; they were stepping stones that led her to introspection and growth.

For the young girls she inspired, Charlene's advice echoed through the corridors of her journey. Dream big, work hard, stay humble. She emphasized the importance of never considering oneself superior to others, urging them to understand that dreams should be so colossal that they scare you. Nobody in this world was made to fit in; we were made to stand out, she affirmed, encouraging them to embrace their uniqueness.

Her mantra is simple yet profound: Stay humble and hustle hard. Every obstacle she encountered became a lesson, shaping her into the woman she is today. Charlene's commitment extended beyond the physical; she initiated anti-bullying programs in schools, shared her journey as a motivational speaker, and revealed the joy of judging beauty pageants.

As the sun set on 2023, Charlene Elliott stood at the crossroads of her past and the limitless possibilities of her future. The year had been difficult, filled with obstacles that tested her resolve, but it had also been a crucible of learning and growth.

And so, as she faced the horizon, Charlene's advice to young girls echoed through time and space. In the symphony of her life, she was the conductor, orchestrating a melody of resilience, empowerment, and unyielding spirit that would resonate for generations to come.

WISDOM UNLEASHED: PRINCESS GOUWS I am Elsje Gouws, an active grade 11 student at Rustenburg High school. I am proud to be part of a school that provides its learners with a wide range of extra mural activities. I have a big passion for sport, music and people. I am always full of smiles, energy, and ready for anything that comes my way. I am a people’s person. Being around people- all kinds of people- give me inner joy. I love to lend a helping hand, and stand up for those who can’t do it themselves. Family plays an important role in my life, because they support and love me, just the way I am. I’am incredibly lucky to have two fathers and two mothers.

Forever thankful. Always grateful.

Why did you enter your school pageant and what will you be doing with your title?

I entered my school pageant because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. We tend o not always see the needs of others.

This project gave me the opportunity not only to see their needs, but also to meet their needs and make a difference. I hope that this will motivate them to pay it forward and help someone else in need. By doing this they will also develop and grow.

I will use this title to set an example to others to not only see it as a title, but as an opportunity to make a change for the better. I do not only want lives to be touched, but hearts as well. Small changes daily eventually add up to huge results.

What do you do to relax?

One of my favourite things to do when I want to relax is to play the piano. I escape from reality and unwind. Exercising and breathing in fresh air, also helps me to relax.

What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it? My biggest challenge has been moving to Rustenburg in my grade 8 year. I originally come from a small town called Lichtenburg. It was a HUGE adjustment coming from a small town, to a big one like "The Burger" When facing difficult challenges I tend to overcome them by holding on to my Faith and knowing that my Saviour is in control.

I like being positive and seeing the good in everything.

Who has been your biggest influence?

- Definitely my mother, and of course the rest of my family. I was taught to always be true to myself, and believe in myself. Do not adapt to those surroundings, but let them adapt to me. To live life to the fullest. To chase my dreams and live out my passions without any hesitation.

What advice would you give to young ladies out there?

Know yourself, and remember where you came from. Stop and see what you already have accomplished in life. Don"t be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the small things, always be grateful and never hesitate to speak up and let your voice be heard. Don't forget to laugh and always seize the moment. Embrace life!

Love others, but don’t forget to love yourself.

NTLEKWANA I come from a small village a few kilometers outside Bochum, which presents very limited opportunities.

But my parents saw to it and moved us to Polokwane in Seshego where I did my schooling.

After matriculation I moved to Randfontein to Further my Engineering Studies and then started working for an Engineering Company there, but later realized that I am rather business oriented than anything else, so that's when I started to go into the entrepreneurial path. I tried several businesses before, which failed of course, mostly in the beauty product industry.

My advice to the young and I would be doing injustice if I don't upcoming artist is to find your niche, Most importantly I also did Modeling, highlight that I was raised by very work on it and be consistent. Failures strong, humble parents who were as a plus size model. The modeling will happen, it is inevitable , but always supportive of my dreams even industry was an eye opening point for being intentional about what you do though they never understood what I and consistent about it will me which led to me abandoning was doing as long as I was doing what I guarantee that you succeed Engineering overall and then started loved. I am a METALLURGIST (Metallurgical Engineer) by profession, and have worked at various mines and mineral processing plants in the Chrome, platinum, and coal industries.

Growing up, my late father was an entrepreneur, and I used to work with him on some weekends and during school holidays, and that’s when the spirit of entrepreneurship rubbed off on me, though at the time I did not know which business path I would follow. It was only after obtaining my qualification that I realized I want to use the same qualification, not as an employee, but as an entrepreneur.

The name Tauyajuda Trading (which in English means “The Lion Of Judah” Trading) was conceived back in 2015 when I read this specific scripture; Revelations 5:5 (NKJV) “But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and loose its seven seals.’’

Being a woman in the Mining industry, which is male dominated, I could identify with the Lion Of Judah in terms of how I see myself as a woman in Mining – having the authority to break the male dominated ground, conquering it, and winning, just as the Lion Of Judah conquered and broke the scroll and its seven seals. This name to me means authority, power, victory, and success, and this is exactly how I see my business and how I see myself.

Tauyajuda operates in the North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and Gauteng provinces.

Meet new Mrs South Africa Queen Tshego Gaelae 18 November 2023: The much-anticipated crowning of the new Dallmayr Mrs South Africa 2023 took place on Friday, 17 November 2023 during a prestigious event held at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, where 33-year-old Tshego Gaelae from Centurion, Gauteng, was named as its inspirational new Queen.

During the glamorous Grand Finale event, her two princesses, 1 st Princess 31-year-old Pearl Nikolic from Pretoria, Gauteng, and 2 nd Princess 47-year-old Noeline Rajbally from Durban, KwaZulu Natal, also received top honours in recognition of their achievements and self-development throughout their journey with Mrs South Africa.

In addition to new crowns and titles, the three women have also taken home some exceptional prizes, including beauty products and services, luxury home appliances and new furniture, business and public relations services, clothing, and travel packages. The new queen will also enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to represent Mrs South Africa on the Mrs World stage, as well as exclusive use of a Chery car courtesy of Chery Krugersdorp.

As the trio carry the organisation’s torch forward, 2022 Queen Palesa Matjekane offered a warm congratulations to Gaelae on her well-deserved win.

The Sterstatus Season 5 winner announced at the Grand finale.

IThe beautifully talented Nidette Nortje emerged as the Season 5 winner of SterStatus. The Gala held at the breathtaking Safari hotel and convention centre took place on 14 October 2023. In an emotional farewell, current winner Leigh-Ann Fourie passed on the prestigious title and with that we usher in a new chapter and look forward to Nidette’s reign Nidette will present the new season and it was such an honour to watch her grow through this journey, reflecting on what this means to her.

Naomi Amanda van Merwe was announced the Charity and debutant winner.

I Am A Self Taught Baker

My Name is Refilwe Pholose, a 35 years old single mother of two precious blessings. I'm the fourth and last child in my Family. I am originally from Luka Village (Tlebebe Section) and currently based in Lerome Village. I started schooling at Ramotse Primary then went to Molotlegi Middle School and later The High School in Luka Village. I proceeded to do Business studies at Orbit FET college Rustenburg Campus.

In 2020 I tested a recipe I found and posted the food on my social media status. People showed interest and asked for quotations. They soon started buying my delicious creations.

This became the birth of Findos Devine Treats Pty Ltd. It still feels like a dream. Before all this began, I couldn't bake to save myself, now I’m a self taught baker.

Seeing my business grow from where it was to where it is today and the support from my home the village Luka is overwhelming. I have also grown in knowledge and interpersonal skills. My 5 My plan is to have prominent clients that I'll be supplying monthly and also creating employment in my community.

My advice to up-and-coming aspiring business owners is: Passion is vital and patience is virtue.

Starting and growing a business requires one to be consistent even when you have zero sales you show up. Invest in yourself so that you'll be able to grow your business. It takes money to make money, so, attend workshops and network.

I’M WISER NOW My name is Naledi Chauke. I am a 17 years old grade 11 learner at Grenville High School in Rustenburg. I am a model, a tennis player and a service club member. Greatness is part of who I am. I choose to be kind, caring, hardworking and focused. Success is mine, no one can convince me otherwise. My motto, nobody is coming to save you, GET Up And do it yourself ". When I grow up I would love to be a fashion designer. I use art and fashion to express myself. My aspiration in life is to be better than I was yesterday.

. Why I entered the school pageant.

I entered the school pageant to gain confidence, experience and to challenge myself and my capabilities. I knew that there was going to be a lot of pressure, competition and work so I wanted to see if I would be able to handle all that. I also viewed the school pageant as an opportunity to assist those who are in need and to make a difference in my community. I i believe that even the little things matter, the little that I did to serve my community and to make people smile matters. With this title, I will be assisting learners who are battling with low selfesteem, I will be empowering our youth and I will continue supporting charities that make a difference in my community What do I do to relax I listen to music and draw. I take a few minutes just to be on my own from time to time.

My biggest challenge and how I overcame it My biggest challenge has been battling with low self-esteem for a very long time, from grade 2 until the end of grade 10. It was an extremely tough and long journey but I believe that experience contributed to who I am today. I stopped comparing myself to other girls and accepted myself just the way I am. I began setting goals for myself and tried to achieve my goals. I became a model to build my confidence and to improve my social skills.

Who has been my biggest influence Olorato Majwafi, the former Miss Grenville has been my biggest influence. When I was searching for a role model, I was too focused on adults but I didn't really get motivated. I saw Olorato at school and I was inspired. I looked at how beautiful, confident, hardworking, determined and passionate she was. I told myself that I wanted to be like her. I did not compare myself to her but instead I looked up to her for inspiration and motivation.

Advice to all the young ladies out there Ladies, dream so big that you get uncomfortable telling small minded people. Do not look down on yourself, you are Beautiful, strong, powerful and smart. Do not let anything stop you from achieving your goals and dreams or from becoming the best version of yourself. Do not let your circumstances or past mistakes stop you. Look ahead. Work hard, stay pretty, be educated, dress well and make money. Do not take the opportunities you get for granted. Believe in yourself and continue dreaming.
