WHAT TO DO WHEN TRIANING BORES YOU…

If you’ve ever felt bored mid-workout (or even just thinking about exercising), you’re definitely not alone. We’ve all been there! Sometimes no matter how much you mix up your exercise routine, some days it can feel harder to enjoy moving your body than others.

During other stages of your life or fitness journey, it’s perfectly normal to experience workout boredom in the exact same way you might get sick of eating the same dinner every night. In fact, The Heart Foundation lists boredom and a lack of fun as one of the top reasons people don’t exercise. It’s not something to beat yourself up about but the key is knowing what to do about it. Exercise should be a way to honour and celebrate your body - something that leaves you feeling energised and alive. If it has become something you dread or it feels like a chore, it’s time to shake things up!

1. Switch up your environment

One of the easiest ways to add some variety to your routine is to change where you exercise If you’re used to working out in your lounge room or garage, try setting up outside If you’re a gym-goer, try a different area or a new machine. Simply changing your surroundings can go a long way towards making your routine feel new and exciting again

2. Change up your schedule

Everyone’s calendar looks different, but if your schedule allows for some flexibility, try working out at a different time of day.

Similar to changing your environment, mixing up your routine can help create that sense of novelty and keep you interested in working out If you’re going to a gym at a different time, you’re also bound to see a different bunch of faces. Who knows, you might even find a new workout buddy!

I3. Think back to your childhood

When you were younger, staying active was probably second nature and just part of having fun! Cast your mind back to when you were a child or teenager, and think about the activities you did for fun - the ones where you completely lost track of time. Perhaps it was dance classes, playing in a sports team, rollerblading, kicking a ball, swimming, or riding your bike.

You can either try those activities again, or try to channel that child-like sense of play into your current routine. If you have young kids, try the monkey bars next time you’re at the playground!

4. Try something totally new

To really kick your boredom to the curb, try something you’ve never done before. Are you a seasoned weight-lifter? Give boxing a go. Used to doing HIIT every week? Try Pilates, barre or yoga.

It’s natural for your brain to crave new, more interesting stimuli, and trying a different training style can be incredibly refreshing or push you out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to experiment and be a beginner again.

15. Set a new goal

Sometimes the reason for workout boredom is a lack of challenge or clear direction It’s hard to feel excited and engaged when you can’t even remember why you’re doing it! Perhaps you’ve been doing the same program for a while, your workouts are starting to feel easy, you’ve achieved the goals you set or you’ve reached a fitness plateau. First off, that’s great! You should feel proud of your progress and commitment To continue to push yourself, it’s time to set a new goal that feels challenging and exciting.

This could be completing a brand new program, mastering a new move like an unassisted pull-up, a longer plank hold, a new number of burpees in 60 seconds, improved flexibility, or hitting a new personal best on your weighted back squat Having something to aim towards can give you a new burst of motivation.

If you thrive on deadlines and want to be held accountable to your goals, you could even sign up for a cycling or running race, or complete a fitness challenge!

6. Make it social

We are social creatures by nature, and having a workout buddy can help to take the fun of working out from zero to 100 in a flash. Start by asking your friends, family or colleagues if they would be keen to join you

If your workout buddy doesn’t live nearby, you can still Sweat together via a video call, or if your schedules don’t align, offering support, encouragement and accountability can work wonders!

PODCAST 101

Born and bred in a township called Rainbow in Upington, I started my schooling at Keidebees Primary School and matriculated in 2000 from Carlton Van Heerden Senior Secondary School

I spent most of my childhood years, being a shy girl with a low self-esteem, due to the motor car accident in 1991 which left me with brain injuries and damaged my facial nerves I only recovered 99,5% and still have 5% facial nerve paralysis.

Life has taught me to standup for myself and I eventually became a talkative, bubbly teenager who developed keen interest in Radio. Growing up, my dream was to become a social worker, because I was inspired by my grandmother who adopted two girls. I quickly changed my mind after one of them pushed her after finding out that her biological family has located her

During my high school years from 1999 till 2000, the radio bug bit me when the local community radio station in Upington called Radio Riverside open it's doors and co-hosted a youth show called "Youth on the move". After matric I came to Pretoria, where my parents lived since the 80's. I studied Office administration with communication being my strongest talent.

In 2007 I met my hubby (daaityd was dit nog mixit) We dated and got married in 2010 Today we’ve been happily married for 13years and blessed with a boy Jaden and girl Zariah. Like I always say, Radio eventually found me and I joined Poort fm radio in 2015 In 2018, we relocate to Bloemfontein and there I joined the campus radio station CUT FM and co-hosting a lifestyle Afrikaans show, Die Sondag Opstaan Here I've interviewed people like Neville D, Michele Lawrence (Mrs Bloemfontein 2018) and Jane Mamotse Mpholo During this year I was also a finalists for Mrs Bloemfontein 2019 I did not win but it didn’t matter because we were heading back to Pretoria.

For the community radio award for Poort fm I've receive awards like, Best Afrikaans TalkshowVermaak met Liezl, Best Influential Line Up Guest and Hero Award In 2023 I left Poort fm and decided to make my own dream come true by starting my own podcast. I just took a leap of faith and I don't know how or where to start. I told my hubby what my plans are even though I didn’t have everything needed to start a podcast After much research and YouTube videos and feeling a bit discouraged because I couldn’t afford the kind of equipment needed to start a podcast, My sister in law said (laughing) “what is stopping you, just start with what you have All those good quality equipment will come, but now just get your brand out there” So, I eventually started and registered the podcast with the name Kuier Met Liezl NPO, and a friend of mine offered to host my podcast on her website until I have saved up enough money for my own website I didn't even had to save up, a Samaritan with the name of Mark Mac from Digital Universe, sponsored me and I launched my website in October 2023, that’s how my God works.

In September 2019, I rejoined Poort fm again and was co-hosting a Gospel show and read the Afrikaans news In October same year I got my own show and I named it Vermaak met Liezl - focusing on controversial issues that affect our societies. I cover a range of topics which are considered to be “too taboo” to talk about e g rape, molestation, homosexuality etc During Covid-19 I never dreamed that I would ever in my radio life would interview people like Prof. Jonathan Jansen, Success Lekbae, Ernusta Maralack, Jolene Martin etc I also had the opportunity to interview Dr's Emmanuel Taban and Imtiaz Sooliman, Kay Karriem, Simon Bruinders and Dr. Abri de Bruin.

On my podcast, I've interviewed Felicia Goosen, Ivor Swartz, Monique Rockman and Melvin Maxim just to name a few In November 2023 I was nominated as Women in Media and the awards evening will be in April 2024. My motto in life is, always have an attitude of gratitude and make prayer my daily life. My hubby and I teach our kids to always be humble, have a attitude of gratitude and pray to God if you want something in life My hubby and my kids are my bigger supporters and we as a family make prayer our daily bread Kuier Met Liezl NPO needs funding and equipment You can assist by donating or sponsoring me I will really appreciate it

WOMEN’S LIFESTYLE NETWORK AWARDS ALUMNI

My name is Keolopile Anastacia Leepile. I'm originally from Morokweng village near Vryburg but I'm currently based in Rustenburg. I'm a hustler who's passionate about Network Marketing. I also sell Tupperware, Yoni products for women, Drink2Shrink Juice and Organix Farmacy products for weight-loss. I’m involved in an organization at home called Kopano Youth Club that gives back to the community by raising funds to host kiddies picnics in December. This awesome organization also hosts career exhibition for grade11&12 in June every year.

I won the Women’s Lifestyle Network Public Choice Award, Woman In Network Marketing Award and Top3 Finalist Award in 2022. These awards meant a lot to me. They taught me to push harder and to never give up if I want to strive for something. I was hired as an Educator Assistant last year in Boitekong and I believe being an Award winner had something to do with it.

I started *Ms Loppy's Charity Drive* and it was a success last year, I donated 24 pairs of school shoes and 26 sanitary pads at Longaneng Primary in Morokweng. I started my own Women Empowerment Organization called *O Botlhokwa Mosadi* meaning Woman, You Are Important. It is still a baby that I wish to see growing and helping women who have nobody to talk to.

My name is Bongi Mangope, I am from Johannesburg and I currently work as a programme coordinator for a Technology Institute. In 2021 I won the Women’s Lifestyle Network Youth Award as well as the Women’s Lifestyle Network Women of the year award. This experience changed my perspective. Initially I was aiming to win the Youth Award but winning the Women of the Year award showed me that being young does not limit the impact that you can make on people’s lives. I am more inspired to continue my journey but also empower young people to believe in the power of their individual journeys as well. Now I am working with Tessa to grow support of the Women’s Lifestyle Network in Johannesburg for future years.

I am Mariska Kruger, from Rustenburg and I am currently a businesswoman and a Mrs Africa Classic 2024 Finalist. I won the Women of the Year Award in 2018 from Women’s Lifestyle. I was also recognized for Excellence in the Community. It was an incredible honour being recognized for my dedication to excellence in the community. It opened doors for meaningful connections, collaborations, and opportunities to amplify the impact of my work.

Currently I am a finalist in Mrs Africa Classic 2024, which is also a platform to express my commitment to community involvement. I hope to address local issues, collaborate with community initiatives and actively contribute to positive change during my new journey.

THE NAMIBIAN QUEEN BEHIND “LET’S TALK”

Give us your Personal story (how & why you made the choice to start and carry on with this Platform?)

My long-standing motto has been to be the change I want to see in the world, but I wasn'tsure how to do it. It started with me creating prerecorded videos addressing stereotypes and beauty standards. From there, it had a trickle-down effect, and I kept pushing the platform to see how far I could take it. Over time, I had to redefine my platform's purpose and solidify my 'why'. I focused on what I was passionate about which was creating change and that led me here. The platform has evolved on its own, and I'm grateful for the lessons it has taught me as I served as its facilitator. Let's Talk! platform has continuously evolved over the years, shaping itself anew. With over 100 conversations held locally and internationally, it has become a space where women can confidently assert ownership over their narratives.

How is the experience?

The experience has been humbling as I've learned from women locally and internationally who come from various backgrounds. It's been an amazing journey, and I apply what I've learned in my personal life. It's like having an older or sometimes younger sister to guide you through every step of your life. That's how I see it.

Let's Talk! platform has continuously evolved over the years, shaping itself anew.

How'd a young Namibian lady get to chatting up with big personalities from all over the world?

I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had to connect with impactful women, and I have tocred it it to the grace of God. Honestly, I don't have a specific formula for how I approach these conversations. When I reach out to people, I strive to be authentic and genuine, without putting up a façade or using fancy words. However, I do face challenges, and I fail about 80% of the time. I've been ignored and told that my platform isn't big enough. But despite the difficulties, I believe that God brings the right people to my platform, and things work out as intended.

Any plans or hopes you'd like to achieve with the platform. Where could you see this journey take you?

I have one main long term goal that I'd like to highlight: Grow the platform internationally and provide mass digital solutions to equip young women all over the world - My journey began with just a basic phone and an internet connection—nothing extravagant. Yet, through these modest means, I've encountered numerous remarkable opportunities. It's always been my mission to reciprocate whenever possible. Collaborating with Zoalize Van Rensburg from South Africa, we developed an E-guide to empower other young individuals in leveraging social media effectively. Our aim is to make valuable information accessible by creating social media kits and empowerment tools.

Does your experience starting this platform relate to any of those(Economic/Financial difficulties) experiences?

Experiencing unemployment after graduating gave me a different perspective. It was challenging not to feel depressed when things didn't go as planned. However, the platform I created became a source of motivation during that dark time in my life.

It encouraged me to think creatively and explore ways to earn income. I began utilizing the creative skills I gained from the platform to assist others in building their own authentic platforms.

Are you finding monetary benefits from this venture, whether directly or indirectly?

I have always been driven by my passion for what I do, and making money from it was not the primary focus. My main goal has always been to provide digital solutions to young women and make information more accessible to them. However, as I continue to grow and expand my work, I have realized the need for financial support to achieve this goal effectively. Therefore, I am now actively seeking sponsors who share my vision and are willing to invest in my efforts to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young women.

What has been keeping you going?

The small, vibrant community of young women who actively tune into the conversations and the incredible women who generously share their journey with me are the ones who keep me going.

What have you learned and are still learning from the experience in the last years?

I have gained significant knowledge and experiences, and it's challenging to summarize it all. However, one unwavering lesson is to never underestimate my own abilities. Our limitations are often selfimposed, as our mindset shapes our potential.

An ongoing lesson for me is Thriving in my uniqueness. It's simple to create a path for oneself, but staying true to that path can be demanding. I am continuously readjusting to ensure I am staying in my own lane, honoring my individuality.

AMPLIFYING CHANGE BY DANIKA MINNAAR

In the enchanting realm of media, the purpose of my voice emerges through the airwaves. It becomes a force a powerful instrument shaping narratives, challenging norms, and championing causes that resonate with the heart.

MY CHILDHOOD ASPIRATIONS WERE DRIVEN BY A SIMPLE DREAM:

to become a social worker, to make a tangible difference in the lives of others Little did I know that destiny had a different script for me, where my mission for change found its platform via radio

My journey started with journalism, a start that was as serendipitous as the stories I would later tell It was a chance encounter with the question, “What do you want to do?” which set me on a path I had never considered Journalism became my medium to explore, question, and bring to light stories that needed telling As I delved into the intricate dance of words and narratives, I realised that I had the power to shape perceptions and ignite valuable conversations.

However, destiny had yet another twist in store for me The world of radio beckoned. It wasn’t a meticulously planned decision but rather a leap of faith Intrigued by the potential of my voice as a catalyst for change, I sent my resume to the producer, taking a chance on a medium that thrives on spontaneity and authenticity.

Although I've always been fairly confident, my dive into becoming a radio presenter was marked by nervousness But, after conquering my initial self-doubt, the mic soon became my happy place a sanctuary where I can turn my thoughts into words

When it comes to radio, each modulation carries the weight of a message and every inflection has the ability to stir hearts and minds. With this knowledge, radio has become my medium where my voice strives to paint vivid images of positive advocacy onto the canvas of possibility

PulseFM has given me a unique platform where I can speak up for causes that resonate deeply with me

The microphone is my tool for raising awareness, shedding light on issues that need more acknowledgment With each broadcast on PulseFM’s weekend breakfast show, Pulse Nerve, I find the power to amplify voices that deserve to be heard. Whether delving into the harsh realities of animal cruelty or addressing the silent struggles of those affected by mental health issues, my mission remains that my show becomes a conduit for change, reaching listeners and inspiring them to join the fight for a better reality

My childhood dream of becoming a social worker has indeed taken a different shape, as my voice now echoes loudly, breaking barriers and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most

Beyond serious topics, I also inject humour into my broadcasts, sharing my favorite silly jokes weekly Believing in the power of words, I also incorporate language lessons into my show, sharing Afrikaans knowledge, and attempting to learn Setswana.

To those who may hesitate on the precipice of opportunity, I hope that my journey serves as a testament that sometimes, the most extraordinary paths are paved with spontaneity and courage. May others be encouraged to take chances, to embrace the unexpected, and to recognise the potential within their voices as a call to action

In conclusion, dear reader, be curious, don't be afraid to be unapologetically spontaneous, and above all else, be kind in whatever you do

Wie is ek…

My naam is Suryke van Schalkwyk, tans 'n Gr 11-leerder by Hoërskool Rustenburg.

Ek het so baie by haar geleer.

BECOMING THENEW YOU!

The new year marks a period of newness, new timelines, new beginnings and of course new trends If you are into makeup & all things beauty, but your not sure how Here are a few basic tips on how to apply that effortless makeup look!

Discovering the New You!

1) Make sure your Primer compliments your Foundation:

Whether oil or water, your primer and Foundation should share the same base, otherwise they will repel eachother or just slide of your face, making it difficult to blend A Good Start guarantees a good finish Ensure to effortlessly blend the primer & foundation for a clean & subtle look

2) Make Crow's Feet Disappear!

Dabbing a little amount of primer around your eyes dramatically minimizes the appearance of crows feet Use a hydrating primer instead of a silicone based product like pore filling primers Very Important Less product is more around the eye area, especially on thinner skin with fine lines If you need more coverage work in thin layers My trick with mature under eyes is Moisturiser or moisturizing primer, thin layers of concealer & a small amount of loose powder pressed into the skin with a powder puff

3) Right Application for Right Coverage:

You can apply your Foundation with your fingers, but I love a good foundation brush Then blend any lines with a sponge It's important to note that formula is key to achieving the kind of coverage you want irrespective of the application style There are Amazing sheer coverage foundations or tinted spf

4) Avoid Peach Fuzz:

The secret to applying your foundation is by downward strokes Most of us have a thin layer of hair on our face, applying foundation in an upward stroke will make the hair strands stand out However even with perfect makeup, given the right light, Peach fuzz will be visible The best way is to remove facial hair You can opt for a derma planning or use a small facial razor with oil to remove Peach fuzz & get a natural glow I love doing mine at Asteria Aesthetics in Olympus Pretoria

Quick Tip

Apply foundation in a stippling motion, wich involves lightly tapping it into your skin Avoid rubbing or wiping, because doing so will move the foundation & leave streaks

5) Create a Conical Shape:

Most of us are used to apply concealer in a semisircular pattern, under our eyes to reduce the appearance of bags & puffiness However for best results, apply the concealer in Conical pattern underneath the eyes & extend it to almost where your nose ends It not only does a better job at concealing, but it also helps in contouring the sides of your nose A great way to lift your face without using to much product, is to apply a dab near the inner corner, under your eye and an upwards angle line following the outer corner of your eye

6) Know the Correct Function:

There are mainly 2 types of face powder Loose powder & pressed powder Both comes in dewy & matt finishes It's important to know which one to use for what purpose Loose powder is used to set makeup in place & make it long lasting It comes in both, tinted & translucent forms It's best to use the colorless translucent one for setting the makeup as it will not disturb the color of your foundation & concealer Pressed powder is the best suited for touch- ups on the go It also have a dewy finish gives a glowing appearance to the skin and the matt one provides a porcelain look This one is my Favourite!

7)Choose the Right Brush:

The result of any makeup product largely depends on the applicator & this is especially true for powders Always use the fluffiest brush, you can find to put your powder on for best results

8) Blush under Foundation:

This is also a clever way of reversing the order of applying the product to get smashing results All you have to do is apply the blush first & then apply the foundation over it The end results looks like you are glowing naturally from within Make sure it's a cream or liquid blush Powder blush underneath your foundation could cause patchiness

9) Use a Tissue Paper for Blotting:

Instead of blotting your blush with a powder, use a tissue paper Press it lightly over the blush after application & finish off with your makeup sponge or beauty blender for that perfect flush of color on your cheeks

10) Be Careful with Shimmery Blushes:

It's tricky to pull of shimmery blush perfectly In fact, it's a good idea to skip shimmery blushes all together if you have large pores, pimples or other symptoms of troubled skin

Pick the ideal shade to accentuate your complexion

Choose a color that closely matches your natural flush is essential Pouncing your cheeksis the simplest way to ascertain what color will best suit you

11) Applying Triangular Fashion for better blending:

Though it's a common practice to apply Bronzer with a fluffy brush on the hollow of your cheeks, it's better to draw 2 inverted triangles on your cheeks with a Bronzer, if you want to achieve cool-toned contouring Blend it out and you will have the perfectly done Bronzer Bronzer should be placed where the sun will hit the face, forhead, temples, middle of the cheeks & optionally on the nose or chin Great tip bringing it all together is to use your Bronzer as eyeshadow in your crease

12) Feathery Strokes:

Always use light feathery strokes, while filling in your eyebrows It will appear more natural

13) Instant Lift:

For an instant lift, firstly apply concealer just above the Arch of your brows, then go over it with your highlighter, blending it out It will not only define your eyebrows perfectly but also have a dramatic impact of the appearance of your entire face

14) To make your eyeshadow pop, use a concealer as a base on your eye, apply translucent powder over it to make it set, then apply your eyeshadow

15) Diffuse your Lip Glow:

Depending on your natural lip colour & lip line, you should either play with lipliner or a gentle plumping gloss or even a mix of both For dark skin, brown or dual-coloured lips, opt for a lip liner in a dark hue close to your natural lip line then rub lips together for the most seamless blend & natural gradient Add some hydrating lip balm for that glazed finish!

16)Lashes:

You have so many choices, it all depends on your mood, long or volume mascara It just gives you an instant youthful look or you can even have lashes professionally done or apply your own But never skip the lashes Darlings!
