Transforming lives as well as minds
Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School provides exceptional pastoral care and outstanding learning opportunities for your child.
Children join our school in every year group, from Reception to Year 6, and are quickly made to feel part of our special community, regardless of the point at which they start. Demand for school places is high. That’s because award winning leadership, light and bright classrooms, small class sizes and exceptional pastoral care provide the very best environment for your child.
Judged “Excellent” in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, we are an ambitious school, working hard to ensure students receive a transformational education.
Our unique approach to learning allows your child to develop strengths; form friendships and new interests; and to become more independent and curious about the world around them.
Dan Peters, Head of WolverhamptonGrammar Junior School
The support that your child receives at our Junior School will be different to anything they have experienced before. From the very beginning, we want your child to be as excited about the prospect of joining a new school as you are.
Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School also provides specialist learning assistance for those children who may require an individual programme of support.
Working in a place that builds up each child to be confident in their own skin is incredible, and seeing them flourish as they grow as learners and individuals is extremely rewarding.
Emma Stanton, Assistant Head (Pastoral)Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School is a busy place with lots of activities, trips and events taking place. Every child is treated as an individual and there is no “typical” day, but what you can expect is a structured approach to your child’s learning experience.
We offer tailored wrap around care. Children can arrive at school from as early as 7.30am and make use of our Breakfast Club. Daily drop off from 8am ensures your child is set up for the day ahead – whether that’s time with the Head or their class teacher, or play on the playground.
Most children stay at school for one of the many extra-curricular clubs or activities on offer. There really is something for everyone and all children can stay at school until 5.30pm to enjoy an activity or join in Homework Club.
For children with busy parents, a Late Club is available until 6.15pm.
Debating clubs, public speaking, philosophy, archaeology, computer science and team building are just some of the skills and subjects that work alongside our usual curriculum.
Class sizes are small enough to ensure individual care and attention for every child, and yet large enough to ensure all children are able to participate in activities including residential camps, music, the sciences, art and competitive sport (if they want to).
Young children thrive when they feel valued and secure in their surroundings. As children progress into Years 5 and 6, they get to explore the wider school campus, enjoying some lessons with subject specialists from our Senior School.
Truan Cothey, Assistant Head (Curriculum)Our brand-new Infant School offering can be found right at the heart of our successful and popular Junior School. With small class sizes, a teacher and teaching assistant per class, remodelled indoor facilities, and immediate access to our purpose-built infant playground, everything your child could need is within easy reach.
Of course, learning shouldn’t be confined to just the classroom. Venturing outside to explore the natural world is the perfect way for children to grow in confidence and to learn new life skills. With lots of combined activities, events, and even assemblies, your Infant child will soon feel part of our very special Junior School community. Everything is built on our pre-existing Junior model, even the curriculum, in which the arts, languages, sport and outdoor learning feature heavily. Similarly, the new Infants’ teaching team comprises of our current outstanding teachers. It is crucial that our youngest children are entrusted to our proven, committed and energetic staff, who provide the exceptional level of pastoral care that our parents value so highly.
Small class sizes ensure no child falls between the cracks. Our staff are experts, trained specifically to ensure your child reaches their full potential.
Gurprit Samra, Reception TeacherThe academic achievements of our students speak for themselves; but our teachers are trained to deliver much more than that.
Our staff and children are digital innovators. Every child in Years 3 to 6 brings a mobile device to school from which they upload their work to the portal and can see all previous teacher marking. Parents can see teacher comments, too, and are able to keep track of their child’s progress at any point at the click of a button.
Children are able to evaluate the effectiveness of apps as tools for their learning. This independence of thought results in both creative approaches to completing their learning objectives and also collaboration with their peers to complete tasks to the best of their abilities.
Our pioneering approach means that students at Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School see their device as an integral part of daily school existence; a device to enable learning and prepare for life not only in the Senior School but the world of work too.
