Woldingham School offers a One-Year GCSE Programme for girls aged 15+ in Year 11. The curriculum is excellent preparation for the British education system and enables students to move on to our Sixth Form, and later to apply for entry into British or international universities.
The One-Year GCSE Programme enables students to gain GCSE qualifications in the following subjects:
• Mathematics
• Double-Award Science (two GCSEs)
• English Language (or English as an Additional Language)
• Business
In addition, dependent on academic ability, students have options to gain further qualifications in:
• Further Mathematics
• An additional language (French, German or Spanish)
There is also the potential to join Year 11 lessons in the following subjects, dependent on timetable. However, it is not anticipated students would take a GCSE exam in these subjects.
• Art
• Music
• Computer Science
Students join our mainstream Year 11 classes, with additional teacherled support lessons provided. In some subjects a small discrete group is created to tailor teaching specifically to the student’s needs. Students will enjoy our co-curricular and THRIVE (Woldingham’s Personal Social and Health Education) programmes with their form classes, as well as a bespoke Philosophy, Religion and Ethics programme, which explores current issues and develops critical thinking skills.
Alongside the academic curriculum, students can take part in the full range of sporting, musical, arts, cultural and community activities that a Woldingham education offers. Girls will also be fully integrated into our boarding community.
As an intensive one-year course, this programme is academically demanding and therefore suited to able students who are self-motivated and able to work independently. Students may wish to undertake preparatory work in the months before they start the programme to maximise their learning and get the best possible results in their final GCSE examinations in the summer term. Girls will learn to manage their time wisely, developing a mature attitude to academic study. The One-Year GCSE Programme runs for three terms, made up of two terms teaching with structured revision and examinations in the third.
