RIVERSIDE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Throughout the years, W. M. Jordan Company has completed nearly 30 projects for Riverside Health System. We’ve been working with the hospital for years to implement a complete replace-in-place of Riverside Regional Medical Center’s existing facilities on the hospital’s 56-acre campus in central Newport News.

The first phase of the project included a new emergency department, a freestanding outpatient surgery center, and a tower off the hospital’s current entrance featuring elevators and expanded lobby spaces. The existing building was re-clad with new windows and exterior finishes. The project included extensive site work with several new parking lots, internal roadways and a new entrance. The most recent project completed in 2018 provided expansion to the pavilion that W. M. Jordan originally completed in 2012. The pavilion expansion added three floors on top of the existing hospital that remained operational throughout construction and includes 160,000 square feet of new space. The new space features a mechanical equipment room on the third floor and 144 new patient rooms with nurse stations and various support spaces on the fourth and fifth floor.

The Addition and Renovation Project completed in 2012 had several key components, including a new 17,543 square foot Central Utility Plant with utility bridge, a new bed tower, and renovations to various portions of the existing hospital. The project doubled the size of the existing Central Energy Plant and features a utility bridge whereby piping and conduit extend across the existing roof via a structural steel truss system. The enhanced plant supports a five-story, Surgical Addition with 68 patient beds, 13 general surgery suites, associated pre/op and post/op areas, reception, pharmacy, and shell space above for two more floors of patient bed rooms. The project included 3,031 square feet of renovations to Cardiac Care Rehab and EEG areas, and demolition of an existing 3,848 square foot structure.
