EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Dr Poovangela Naidoo, Head Clinical Unit, School of Clinical Medicine
Dr Naidoo joined the Department as a specialist in 2005 and is a Head Clinical Unit from 2013. She has exceptional clinical skills in looking after the critically ill obstetric patient. She has a special interest in Hypertensive diseases in Pregnancy and Multiple pregnancy. She started the multiple pregnancy clinic at CHBAH and is doing her PhD on growth restriction and growth charts in women with multiple pregnancy. She has a certificate in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Her involvement with Post Graduate training has been teaching clinical and surgical skills and also regularly does lectures. She is involved in examination preparation of those writing their final examination. She has supervised 18 MMed’s. She has been part of the O&G part one committee for the college of medicine and has also examined in the Part 2 and Diploma examinations. She has been involved in the Ultrasound workshops and ran the maternal resuscitation workshops in the Department.
She has been involved in teaching and training undergraduates. Her contribution to clinical and surgical training of Interns has been outstanding. She was the intern co-ordinator for several years and was responsible for changing the Obstetric and Gynaecology experience for interns and CHBAH. She introduced ESMOE teaching at CHBAH.
Her commitment to her clinical work and the educational requirements of the Department and the University should be applauded.
