ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, School of Pathology
Dr Reubina Wadee
Dr Wadee’s qualifications includes an MMed obtained in 2013 and a PhD in 2019, both from Wits. She is registered with the Irish Medical Council and the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Dr Wadee has taught multiple anatomical pathology courses to medical, dental, pharmacy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy students. Her current teaching focus is on postgraduate students, predominantly registrars in Anatomical pathology. The Division has 30 registrars who regularly interface with her, as she is responsible for their regular assessments, mentoring, and supervising their research. She has graduated five masters to completion and is currently supervising another six students at various stages of their research.
Dr Wadee’s research niche is molecular analysis of endometrial carcinomas, which was the subject of her PhD. She is a “go-to” person for gynecologic pathology and is currently doing several studies with local and national collaborators. Dr Wadee has 26 original research articles and 14 case series, commentary and research letters in national and international journals. She is the first author in 23 of the 26 publications. She has produced 20 of the 26 articles in the last four years. Her H-index is 3 and has 31 Scopus citations. Dr Wadee has procured 8 research grants, 4 of which are currently ongoing. She is the principal Investigator in 2. She has presented at 17 national and international meetings.
Dr Wadee is involved in over 30 University, national and international Committees. Her leadership roles include coordinating the Intern Scientist training program in the Division, Convening the annual registrar examinations, and Co-chairing the School Transformation Committee.
