From the CEO BLACK LIVES MATTER!

During the spring of 2020, America began an in-depth look into issues concerning the racial injustice facing black and brown citizens. The issue of race is both personal and very visible to individuals as well as companies. In response, the winter activities industry is embracing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion through conversations, institutional and personal initiatives. At Winter4Kids we took a hard look at our role, organization and impact on our participants. Through access, equity and immersion, we are pleased to report that inclusion has always been our focus—it is more than something we do well. It is who we are. It IS our culture!

COVID-19

In March as we completed our fifth season, our facility closed early due to Covid-19. Before closing, we had already served 69 non-profit, youth serving organizations. The Winter4Kids Academy program had lifted up almost 3,000 kids from New Jersey and New York through winter activities.

The impact of Covid-19 is continuous and requiring all of us to examine our lives in terms of relationships, how we contribute to our communities and how we work. All of us have been impacted personally. Some have been ill, others have lost friends or family members and our day-to-day lives have dramatically changed. We will get through this and the outcome will be better for all of us. We choose HOPE enabling the new normal to consist of getting better and being better personally and professionally.

Season 2020

While 3,100 participants registered, sessions for 266 of them were canceled beginning the second week of March due to Covid-19. We were forced to furlough staff and had to let seasonal team members go early. Our facility was closed on March 12th with administrative staff working remotely.

The Winter4Kids team continues to work remotely and thoughtfully for the safest and healthiest programs in 2021. Our goal is to increase the number of communities served to 77 and 3,450 youth.

HIGHLIGHTS Expanded Academy Curriculum to include Nordic Skiing (Cross Country)

2,174 Youth Introduced to Snowboarding, Alpine and Nordic Skiing

Hosted the first FIS (International Federation of Skiing) NorAm Parallel Competition

At the end of their first season, our first-year participants (Never Evers) are considered “competent novices” in three activities; skiing snowboarding and cross country!

Over the next five years, we hope to extend our program to 40,000 or more. With this tremendous goal and serving more than a hundred non-profit organizations and communities, Winter4Kids continues to rely on philanthropy, community support and earned income.

WINTER4KIDS ATHLETICS

Our participants are coached to reach their personal ski, snowboard or cross-country goals. Mastery of competitive and individual skills prepares these athletes for life and creates a path to upper level, interscholastic and recreational competition, lifetime winter activity enjoyment, fans and future employees.

WINTER4KIDS ACADEMY

Participants learn on-snow and fruitful life skills to master skiing, snowboard or cross country, all while developing healthy lifestyles. Those who participate can become lifetime enthusiasts, competitors, fans, or future employees. All are changed in ways that positively impact their lives. Outcomes include improved attendance in school; increased collegegoing mentality and goals; better health and diet; enriched behaviors and new attitudes toward nutrition, esteem, cross cultural interactions, and the outdoors.
