Celebrating 10 Years 2014 - 2024
My life has been one of following my heart and we hope you will find it in your heart to join us on the exciting road ahead as we celebrate our journey with you for the next ten years. Your continued support and partnerships will enable Winter4Kids to continue to provide the next generation of kids with the opportunities and sense of belonging they deserve.
In so many ways, your commitment has been the foundation of Winter4Kids being able to make a difference in the lives of 16,940 youth these last ten years. Through our First Tracks, TeamW4K, and Summer Camp programs, each participant has fun, acquires skills, and develops values, which enables them to be better at school, with each other, and in their communities.
Looking back on our journey, Winter4Kids is the culmination of my dreams and experiences. Growing up in the Bronx, raised by a single parent in an environment that today we would categorize as at least challenging, everyone did not always have the wherewithal to make positive choices. I was fortunate enough to be guided on a different path through luck, blessings, and the influence of others through activities and experiences that changed my trajectory.
doors for our youth where they might otherwise be closed, develop and grow our programs, add more resources, and extend our partnerships. At Winter4Kids any participant can develop positive behaviors despite any traumas. Together we can continue to provide these kids with opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have so they can choose the right path.
“Through winter and summer activities, participating youth develop better attitudes about Self, Health, Opportunities, Mastery and the Outdoors.”
creating a SAFE environment for everyone to be their AUTHENTIC self.
We take on another's perspective, to understand, feel, and possibly share and respond to their experience.
more than just including or accepting ideas, a person or belief. We welcome it, to appreciate it, to value it.
the feeling of being accepted, valued and included.
“ it really helps me build a relationship of mutual respect with my students and that translates to better classroom culture In fact, if I’m struggling to build a relationship with a student, I will go out of my way to persuade them to join the club ”
- Longwood Preperatory Academy, Bronx, NY
“I just feel like [W4K] helps you with everything, learning new things, being able to adapt to certain environments, having new friends, meeting new people, having connections-it’s a great experience ”
-Avon Avenue School Student, Newark, NJ
“It’s not just about snowboarding or skiing; it’s about the joy of being outdoors, surrounded by good people and teachers, and making unforgettable memories with amazing people like your program Thank you for giving me the chance to learn, grow, and have fun in the snow. I will cherish this opportunity and the memories made during this trip for a long time.”
- William Dickinson High School Student, Jersey City, NJ
Team W4K represents the program that lets participants apply their onsnow skills in an athletically progressive community. They can choose to participate in local or regional leagues for fun, personal progress or even in high schools where offered. Age based development and competitive opportunities are available beginning at seven years old through high school in alpine skiing. We are hoping to offer this for Nordic and Snowboard.
A First Tracks season is six (6) four hour sessions over three weekday or weekend visits for school and youth serving organizations With a typical duration of three years, it is a progressive experience. The first year, the participant has two sessions of Alpine skiing, two sessions of Nordic Skiing and two sessions of Snowboarding. When they return the next year, they choose the one they want to focus on for their subsequent participation. To create a continuous, welcoming community, every participating organization creates a Winter Activity Club where “program graduates” can receive a Camelback season pass for a few years.
Summer is a time for all youth to have fun. Our Summer Camp is weekly sessions that are available beginning the first week of July through the end of August. Each age appropriate group of 12 is led by a group leader to general and skill activities are organized for fun and growth. W4K values are part of every activity which include robotics, cycling, culinary and archery to name just a few, along with healthy meals and snacks Some participants come for a single week while others attend every session.
